I just bought a new laptop and I want to know what you guys think about it:

HP HDX16T
4GB DDR2 RAM
320GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
512MB NVIDA GeForce 9200
2.2GHz Intel 2 Duo Core T6600 2MB L2 Cache, 800 MHz FSB
Fingerprint Reader
Built in Webcam w/ Mic.
Integrated TV Tuner w/ Remote
16" HP Brightview Infinity Display (1366X768)

For:
$815.97

So, what do you think?

I think its pretty good for a laptop, lots of extra features (especially that TV tuner).
redmonke
Meh, for 800 you could have had a dedicated card, but it's decent.
DaNoobPro1337
Well, he can always up it relatively cheaply.

Red, I thought you would be screaming because I didn't get an Intel Quad Core slanty.gif...
2.2GHz is pretty fast, especially with duo core. My mom really cut the budget, and since my birthday is in 9 days, she is paying for half of it. It is bought, and should hopefully be here ASAP...
She said no to the one day shipping though sad.gif

Oh yeah, and Red, anything with 1GB or more dedicated would go over $1k, which my mom didn't want to do...
Better than her AMD 5400 2.0GHz 1MB L2 Cache 800MHz processor, with... Well, just one of those "Media Accelerators"

~Vincent

EDIT: How much would be a 1GB card to buy, and, as red knows, I can barely install RAM...
So how hard/expensive would it be to upgrade to a 1GB dedicated card...

There's quad core laptops available to the public for reasonable prices? huh.gif

And I don't think you understand graphics cards. You keep mentioning 1gb stuff. Nobody needs a 1gb graphics card, they just up the memory so people see bigger numbers and think it's good.

And the 9200 isn't that much of an improvement from the gma4500m/hd.

Sure, try Alienware tongue.gif
Only $5-6k... So, Red... How the heck would I be able to get a dedicated card... And... Would I be able to get someone, like Geek Squad to install it for me... No way I'm opening up my laptop, I don't want to break anything, and my parents would flip.
~Vincent

EDIT: I see Caboose looking, so I just want to let you know, Caboose, I will be dual booting with Linux Mint biggrin.gif

Oh, no there's no going back no. You can't change out those suckers without loads of experience and cash for laptop graphics cards (much rarer).

And I would have gone with something like this. 1GB video card just for you.
Veni vidi vici
Pft! 2.1GHz and no fingerprint reader or webcam, and without a TV Tuner!
I was looking at Asus, but the HDX got better reviews. I feel I'm getting quite a bit of bang for my (and parent's) buck biggrin.gif
~Vincent
EDIT: There is a fingerprint reader, but no webcam or TV tuner slanty.gif
redmonke
There is a webcam.

I can't see the tv input on your computer, but realistically how often would you use that?

And the Acer is a much better value. The graphics card is 50x better, which means no hiccups in watching videos/movies plus can run almost all games on the market with ease.

And don't expect to use the bluray player on that while hooked up to a TV using the HDMI port. The integrated won't (I don't think anyways) keep up.
Veni vidi vici
Don't watch movies wink.gif
Got it for gaming, internet surfing and coming on here to annoy you guys wink.gif
And gaming is loosely defined... As in, RuneScape...
And, yes, I will be using the TV Tuner... My brother has gotten into watching South Park... He is always watching it...

Well, I don't mind the graphics card. I'm pretty sure this also qualify's for a free Windows 7 Upgrade too, need to contact seller about that though.

Ok I lied, it is dedicated graphics (I think at least now that I looked it up). laugh.gif

Overall I don't think it's a bad computer, but I do think you paid a portion just for the name. wink.gif

It's okay, I don't mind paying a little extra. I mean, just because we now have to live in a cardboard box now, doesn't mean it isn't worth it wink.gif

... Nah, not really, but we won't be able to be spoiled until Christmas...

not bad...but 4GB RAM and 512MB video memory is weird. I rather have 3 GB Ram 1GB video memory
Veni vidi vici
I'm sorry, but that does not make any sense...
4GB is standard on most laptops these days, and 1GB is almost always extra. 512MB is enough for most if not all games.

Weren't you just saying that you wanted a 1gb card just a few posts before?
Caboose
2GB is standard, and most people won't use 3GB. It's just that RAM is so cheap you might as well put more in should you ever need it and so that customers see a bigger number and think that's better. Probably best that they don't post the CAS Latencies in that case though...

Its okay, I can't see you using half the features though.

Fingerprint Reader- Aren't passwords enough? It isn't like you're hiding secret government documents on it or anything.
Built in Webcam w/ Mic.- is pretty much in every laptop these days.
Integrated TV Tuner w/ Remote- You said that you're brother started watching south park on it, is it really worth it for one program, and can't he just use a regular television, it would be on a

As other have said with the RAM, 2gb would have been plenty, my laptop only has 3gb, and I can quite happily cope with running the millions of tabs I always have to seem open, with a fair number of programs such as photoshop open at the same time too.

No, I am watching TV on it. My brother is always watching South Park on OUR TV, so when he is using it, I will be watching on my laptop. Yup.

I have the money, so I can afford 4GB, even though it is just about standard on most computers now

I was looking at the ones you suggested, but found the HDX for a lot less and with a lot more st00f on eBay (Shop Victoriously)

At least it is better than my laptop. Its from 1998. 20 GB HD, 8m ATI Mobility 2X AGP, and Pentium 3.
