I still don't think, even with a new software, that Zune is going to get many buyers considering the iPod touch is out there pfft.gif Still a pretty good player. I have an older version it's okay but the iPod touch is still much better wink.gif
Yippee
Downloading Zune 4.0 now, and I'll hopefully be getting the Zune HD 32gb in the next month or two. It looks very cool.

Zune for life. biggrin.gif Meh, I just don't really like Apple as a company, I like Zunes better than most iPods anyway, and Zunes are a little cheaper than the equivalent iPod.
Biscuit
If I had to choose between iPod and Zune, I'd take the iPod in hopes that it gets Audiosurf wub.gif like the Zune gets.

Either M$ bought the game's exclusivity (Now you know what it feels like sad.gif), or it's coming.

Would so get a zune if they had a great app store like the ipod. Used to have a zune (halo 3 edition) sold it because of the lack of content and it was way to bulky.

Actually there will be applications and games wink.gif

Also, anyone know a high quality program that syncs well with Zune and iPod? I'm thinking about the HD, but don't want to go through any stupid microsoft-ware (Namely WMP, don't tell me it's a good program slanty.gif)

Ah, you're right. I heard there will be Facebook and Twitter apps, so assumed that would be with an app store.
*crosses fingers for jailbreaking awesomeness*

if only you could sync your zune with itunes so you get those apps I would totally buy this

+1

Also, the only thing I dislike about Apple's app store is it has too many repeats of apps. There are too many farting apps, flashlight apps, bubble wrap, and TWITTER madsing.gif

It is. I looked up a full list of specs on the thing, and I can confirm it's Internet Explorer. But heck, it's an internet browser on the Zune. Without all the stupid toolbars and all that crap it shouldn't be that bad.

I can't find the original, but here's something from Wikipedia:

QUOTE
Web browser (based on Internet Explorer Mobile 6 for Windows CE)

...

The browser features favorites and instant Bing search. The keyboard can be accessed by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. The keyboard also has portrait and landscape orientation, with the keys bulging around the user's finger when touched. The web browser has pinch and stretch for zooming and page reorientation due to the built in accelerometer.

Zune comes with it's own software that works perfectly for me. If you want something special that most people don't have, though, I think you're out of luck. I'm not aware of any alternative software, though there very well could be.

Nah, but my iPod has gotten pretty beaten up recently so I'm just considering getting a Zune HD once it comes out.

Are you sure? The regular Zune hardly had anything except third party apps. They weren't listed on the Zune site, but they could be programmed pretty easily with their XNA Games Studio. I have about 10 games on my Zune right now that were programmed by random people for no profit that have no affiliation whatsoever with Microsoft.

I'd hate it if there were no third party apps for the Zune HD, but considering how often I really use the third party apps I do have (once every couple weeks if I'm bored, which I would never do if I had a web browser available to me at those times), I don't think it will be a big deal to me.
Timmeh
The browser on the Zune HD was said to be pretty horrible, but damn, I love that interface!
DaNoobPro1337
I will try to make an unbiased opinion smile.gif.

FUNCTIONALITY: Touch (apps vs a radio)

INTERNET CAPABILITY: Touch

COMPATIBILITY (various vid codecs, HD, Mac/Windows, etc): Touch

MUSIC QUALITY: Zune (probably)

VIDEO PLAYBACK: Zune

Touch still wins IMUBO.
Caboose
Zune will have apps, internet capability and compatibility isn't a problem with these sort of gadgets?
D-Jizzy
The ZuneHD will have MS apps and approved third-party apps.

Still, App Store pwns Zune and will continue to pwn unless MS magically gets a few thousand apps.

Anyway, let's assume there are 10,000 dupe apps. There are still 68k of other ones tongue.gif

And 50k of those are quite stupid things that nobody uses. OK, maybe that's exaggerating, and even then the app store still has more than Zune, but Zune is catching up. And anyone can make anything they want for the Zune, as long as it's supported, and it doesn't have any chance of being declined in any app store, and every Zune game is open source (great for programmers like me who like editing everything), all kind of like mp3s vs. iTunes. It all makes me just like Zunes better, and I'm willing to program anything I want if I really can't find it on the internet. If I'm bored with nothing to do (ain't happening for quite a while), I might program some for other people. And all I really want is an internet browser and a couple games to play when I'm bored.

Zunes are made mainly to play music and movies, and I'll choose mp3's over iTunes any day, just because I like open source and similar things better than ease of access.

That's all just me. Microsoft really needs some easy access stuff too for the people who can't even imagine programming something or they'll never catch up with the iPod. The Zune marketplace is awesome for music and even videos now, even though it is missing a lot of the lesser known bands that I've found iTunes for, but it needs a bunch of apps. Again, Microsoft is still working at it, and they're actually developing apps themselves now instead of just making a default 5 and leaving the rest to the users.

For the average person, iPod still beats Zune, but Zune has a lot of potential features that Microsoft just has to make available to the average public. Like I said, Zune is catching up, and to many of the tech savvy people, it already has caught up. I want to know what's after the Zune HD. A Zune version of the iPhone?
