Full Version: Living Rock Caverns

finisterra

Flowing meltwater from Ice Mountain, coupled with some rather over-enthusiastic dwarven mining, has opened up an entrance to what the dwarves have named the Living Rock Caverns. This previously sealed-off area offers a rich source of ore for the dedicated miner, plus two new species of fish for the keen angler.

The caverns are home to more than fish, however! The living rock guardians of the caverns take umbrage with adventurers plundering their home, so be on your guard, and beware of the rock of the caverns themselves! Particularly lucky (or should that be unlucky?) adventurers may even encounter a living rock patriarch, which are rumoured to wander the caverns in search of careless individuals to smite with its mighty fists.

Mod Rathe
RuneScape Content Developer

Summary:

Where to access the Living Rock Caverns:
Enter the caverns at the northern end of the Dwarven Mine.

Requirements:
85 Fishing (to bait cavefish)
90 Fishing (to bait rocktail)
73 Mining (to mine living rock remains)
77 Mining (to mine concentrated coal deposits)
80 Mining (to mine concentrated gold deposits)
88 Cooking (to cook cavefish)
93 Cooking (to cook rocktail)
The ability to defeat level 120+ foes would be a distinct advantage

In other news...

We've added a caret (aka text cursor) to the chat box to allow you to move within any text you type to correct typos or insert extra words. To move the caret through your text either hold down 'Shift' and use the arrow keys, or simply click where you'd like the caret to be. This should save considerable time when correcting typos!

As promised in the RuneScape Content Live Q&A, we've increased the POH room limit from 30 up to 32. These two extra rooms become available at Construction levels 38 and 44 respectively.

The dragon pickaxe has been added to the list of items you can CoinShare via the LootShare system.

We've removed more delays (e.g. when drinking potions and running).

We've increased the shop stock of bone bolts.

Bounty Hunter worlds have been changed slightly to allow players to access the Grand Exchange area of the map for all your combat needs.

No quest was released. O_o

Reminds me a little of the "Barbarian Training" update.

Hmmm - 99 fishing and 99 cooking - looks like I've got some new food to be a-looking into ... happy.gif
AnImp3HitMe
Cave fish (the 85 fishing ones) use a bait rod and normal bait. The lvl 90 rockfish take special bait that you get from killing the new rock monsters. New rock monsters seem to drop way more bait then you need so no issues there. Also there is a deposit box in the cave!
Ruin
omg 90+ fishing requirtement! im happy and sad because i only have 66 mining.

Partly because you can't use the other things, I'm guessing.

Concentrated gold and coal deposits contain more ores in one rock. You can kill the lvl 120/140 monsters in there to get living minerals, which are used to catch the new 90 Fishing fish.
And there's a high lvl monster, but nothing is clear about him yet.
elapid
Sweet we can now have two more rooms in out houses. Now I can finally add that menagerie to my house without destroying anything.

Ditto.

Not close to the fishing/mining requirements so doesn't look like I'll be paying a visit anytime soon. P

The high level monster is a living rock patriarch, or something like that. He's level 200, and hit really high.
Lord Earth
Wonder if there was any particular new weapon/armor released today with that level 200.

Very nice update, will check it out a bit later. smile.gif I can also finally add a Menagerie! biggrin.gif Gonna love the new text thing too, sounds amazing.

Next week is the tab update I guess since they said it'd be released in September. (Or maybe early the week after that?)

Same. Awesome update, I hope to see more of these in the future tongue.gif
At first I though it was going to let us change in-game text, not chat xd.gif that would've been funny though.

It's not a quest, it's an area, like the Baxtorian Waterfall area. The skill reqs are not necessary to do anything but the actions they are related to.

Damn. More dungeon rooms then, I guess?

Looks like a pretty good update overall. I don't have the requirements, but it's certainly something new to work for. The new fish will be especially useful. Hopefully it will mean the GE price for Sharks will go down. biggrin.gif

finnaly a good use for my 99 fishing and cook biggrin.gif, gotta get my mining up but its only 2 lvls and i got mining brawlers and sc pickaxes biggrin.gif
Emanick
I told Jagex that I loved them too soon! This is almost as good as a Dragon Pickaxe! And the fact that the chat now works like it should? A treasure beyond price.
A HIGH LEVEL MINING UPDATE THAT I FULLY QUALIFY FOR?!?!?! Score! biggrin.gif

Now, about that Smithing skill...

oh yeah.
i hated having to delete everything i typed.
The Who?
The living rock monsters seem really cool, too bad I can't get members. The big thing for me in this update is the new fish. One of them, forget the name, allows you to eat 10 hp over your max. That makes me think that Jagex wants to put in high level weapons and needs to up hp with this update. The concentrated coal rocks are just going to mean coal prices dive. To be honnest we don't need coal trees, people should have just gotten over the fact you have to click for each ore. I'm dissapointed that Jagex did that slanty.gif

Reqs for the cave are pretty high ohmy.gif

I didn't think FoCD would be a master quest.
Mith
I'm not sure if anyone else has said something yet about the patriarchs.

I'm hearing the drops are always the same from them, at about 200k a kill. I want to know how to find these guys, they are said to be very easy too. ohmy.gif

pull up the world map, for the dwarven mine. On the right side of the mines (close to the cart that takes you to Keldagrim), is a gap, with an exclamation point. Go there, and you will see a rope, lading down the gap. Climb down the gap, and there you go smile.gif

OMG Best update since...hmmm ever! wub.gif

I fished 500 rocktails last night and sold them 13k ea laugh.gif , blinding fast money. Hopefully the prices will remain at somewhat high level for longer period of time. Now I just have a problem that I'm out of junk slanty.gif

It also seems really good place when I start to raise my mining.

Ph201
Jagex is really pumping out the updates. I wonder how big their team is these days.
Wiltingplant
OMG CARET!!!!!!!!!!!!

the rest of this stuff looks cool too.
Ph201
The caret was an idea that seems like should've been there years ago.
Arch Ange156
Cant wait to catch some Rocktail! smile.gif
iJaCo
yesterday I was powermining to 73 just so i could catch rock tail without any middle man supplying the bait. Tbh this is the kind of update i love to see, it requires the use of many skills and attention to aquire an extremly usefull product. Thank god for 99 fish and cook happy.gif

Am I missing something? Forgiveness of a chaos dwarf doesn't have particularly tough requirements.

These living caverns have higher requirements but they have nothing to do with the quest cape or quest.
