I'm experimenting with different musical sounds and I need some new material to listen to. I've never been a fan of mainstream rap/rnb/soul, however, I like the Beastie Boys who are rock/hip hop and they're fairly decent. Does anyone know any similar artists? Especially with rock, metal or punk influences.

Early Red Hot Chili Peppers, especially their album "The Uplift Mofo Party Plan", is a great fusion of rap and heavy metal. Rage Against the Machine is also an obvious choice for rap mixed with metal. Faith No More did a variety of sounds, but a lot of them go with the rap/funk/metal approach.

Thanks hun, but I've heard samples of both and I don't particularly like them sad.gif

I always thought Red Hot Chili Peppers were some funky rock group. I haven't really heard many releases but heavy metal? blink.gif. I'll take your word for it tongue.gif.

Suicidal Tendencies may suit what your looking for but it isn't really similar to Beastie Boys. It's a hard thing to find sad.gif

Whitey! You red devil! ST are good. "Institutionalized" being my favorite song.

But yeah it really is hard to find similar artists to the Beastie Boys, quite unique in their own little niche. I might sound like a tool for recommending this, but the band G. Love and Special Sauce have a similar rap/rock/rnb mix. Their second album is quite good, as well as their debut. (And of course their hit single Milk and Cereal)
A rap group called, The Five Fingers of Funk, have a wicked sound of hip hop mixed with a James Brown backing band.

Although what are you looking for specifically, I can't quite seem to put my finger on it. Just rap? Or something else?

RHCP was heavy metal in the way the original heavy metal bands were (you know, the guys who used to be called metal but are now smushed in under "classic rock"). Listen to Fight Like a Brave, in example. The guitar tone is metal-esque and if you remove the rapping, it could become a typical heavy rock song. This style wasn't used for more than two albums, but it's a good example of a rap and heavy metal fusion.

Alright cool, it's just when someone says RHCP I think, Under the Bridge, By the Way. "Classic & modern" sound they seem to have, you know? I'm naive also I was never that big on 'em.
Death Metal
The only fusion genre I really listen to is Sludge Metal. =/

Example:

Grief - Angry Man (Saint Vitus)

Thanks, I'll check them out and tell you what I think.

What I am looking for basically is any combination of rap/soul/funk/rnb mixed with any combination of metal/rock/punk.

I'm just experimenting with different styles at the moment, that's all.

Gang of Four! How did I forget them? The original punk funk rockers. And then there's always James Chance and the Contortions. Punk and James Brown raping John Coltrane would describe their sound.
