By doing the exact opposite of what you're doing.

@below - well he is asking to be promoted (i really 1nt to be 1 ha ha ha but ser1ously ). Let's not dwell on this, shall we?
Twist of Fate
^I disagree. There is nothing wrong about asking HOW to become promoted. Just asking TO be promoted.

Even though it's in the rules and he should've read it before posting, there is completely nothing wrong with threads like this. They may be annoying, but they're alright.

There's nothing wrong with saying you want to be one. Haha. Lots of people hint at that through the way they post, I can think of a couple of people off of the top of my head who imply they want to be one. It's only a problem if they ask to be one.
Twist of Fate
True, but sadly for them the staff can tell the difference between naturally helpful people, and those who make a few good posts and then usually slip at the others.
Fake
You tell every member in Sal's, telling them to vote for you in the next DM election.
If I remember correctly the next ones are on December 21, 2012.

[This] tutorial gives you a basic idea, of each of the different member groups.

I know you'd love to be a dm

Post in areas of the forum where mods and admins dwell, this means don't ever post in anything to do with runescape, the scape lounge or the newspaper forums.

You're probably half-joking, but you've actually got a good point there. The 'Scape Lounge is actually a good place to get yourself noticed by the mods/admins, but the Debate Room and General Chat are probably by far the best places fitting that category. And yeah, most of the old-school staff avoids the RuneScape section like the plague, being the filthy hypocritical apostates that they are, so it's not really a good place to be noticed. tongue.gif

I know it sounds bad and all, me saying this, but it's not as if the staff doesn't WANT new DMs. We do, definitely. And obviously it's terrible to act a way that isn't really you just to get promoted, but acting the way you naturally do in the full consciousness that you may be on the "potential DM list" - well, there's nothing wrong with that. tongue.gif It's always sad when the staff misses someone who deserves a rank because they haven't been noticed enough (though activity is a hugely important factor, so in most cases they probably wouldn't have been promoted anyway).

I find it rather fun to watch people try and get noticed in the debate room because of that.

The Debate room is like /b/.
It doesn't forgive.

Would you be included in that list, my good sir? wub.gif

@The thread starter, making posts like this will just lessend your chances. And trying hard to be a DM will be noticed, and you wont get one because the staff isn't looking for wannabes tongue.gif
OnYx
Just don't try. If you set out to do something, chances are you wont get it tongue.gif Just go with the flow. Be helpful were you can and stay positive and have fun. Scoping out people who toe the line or "badness" wont get you anywhere.

I want that list tongue.gif

On topic just because you ask to be a dm doesn't mean asking to be a dm, its more to the point you haven't read the rules.
