I was browsing the internet today, just looking at random things like epic fail pictures and what not. I was extremley bored so I got onto Naruto-Arena and I started playing. All of a sudden my window closed and a thing popped up saying my computer was infected, it showed me my C Drive was infected and all this stuff and then started downloading random files. I of course, having my awesome antivirus, simply clicked delete and it was gone. (I'm assuming the virus was on the 'free' antivirus software) I want to know what that kind of virus is called. Because...well....because...aware.gif

Thanks

We don't know what the virus was called. Give us the details from the virus scan you ran. It could have been a rogue anti-virus program that makes you believe you have a major problem. In reality, the program itself is the problem.

When I entered N-A, the window closed and 'MY Comp' popped up and sayed I had so amny infections on certain things. Randomly, it started downloading a Anti-Virus program(which I already have, and it said I was clean). So, this is the list.
1. Entered Browser
2. Browser Closed
3. My Computer popped up saying it was infected
4. Randomly started download Anti-Virus software
5. I exit it out of it and shut down my comp and restarted it.

Thats it, in a nutshell.

That wasn't My Computer, it was a website trying to deceive you.

The ridiculous amount of threads about this is getting annoying... Especially because you can't tell which ones are serious and which ones are not...

Yep, sounds like a rogue anti-virus program trying to scam you. They show a picture of what looks like the screen on My Computer, but it's actually in a web browser window. Scan your computer with your true anti-virus program and see if you have any traces of this fake program on your computer. Make sure your legitimate program is updated first.

Yup, and especially if you share your computer with any people who don't know much about computers, you should get rid of it immediately.

Just as a note, most of the websites use the most common OS to fool you, which is Windows XP with the blue theme.

If you're using Windows XP, I recommend you change it to the silver theme or the olive theme, or installing a custom theme (we can help you out with that), that way you'll know if it's a scam in the future. wink.gif

More simple than that, notice that the active window is your web browser and not an explorer window.

What makes me laugh is when they display the "scan results" right on the "explorer window". When you do a true virus scan, the results aren't shown on the explorer window in big red text.

What makes me laugh is some people actually do fall for these...
