Right now, I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. October 22nd, I get Windows 7 Home Premium in the mail. I'm really looking forward to it.
My question is: How did some of you get Windows 7 already?
They're probably referring to the beta or the store demo versions.
Or they got it through...uh...less legal means.

I'm sorry, I have Vista, and Windows 7 looks hot.
@above posts: The Windows 7 beta was made available to the public in early February (I think; so long ago now lol

), and the RTM in June?? (not sure - I have a really bad memory!). Anyway both of those were available free to the public then, so if you wanted Windows 7 you should have downloaded them. Also, MSDN subscribers have been able to download the final release version of Windows 7 legally for a while, that's the version I'm using.

I currently use vista but i'm going to upgrade to 7. Whats linux like?
Better than Windows.
Though unless you're a meganerd, you will probably want to consider Ubuntu.
Amg. Please stop spreading misinformation.
@Jordo: Linux is another operating system that is (in most cases, a couple of them charge) completely free and open-source with a good user community and lots of free software available for it. Because it is open-source, meaning anyone can take the code and modify it to make a new version, there are lots of different versions available called 'distros'. You can get distros for all sorts of purposes: 'lightweight' ones for use on old hardware, family-orientated ones, media-focussed distros, e.t.c. It has a more stable security base than Windows and there is very few pieces of malware that affect it. However, Windows software is not compatible with it (although programs like Firefox have Linux versions), and getting the right drivers for your hardware can be an issue.
