Looks very MechScape-ish. Thanks for posting this. smile.gif

The first picture probably.

Second picture however don't think there's any doubt. What scraps of concept art I've glimpsed so far have looked very promising.

Don't think so. Since its on the funorb site its more likely to be a FunOrb game. Jagex have yet to publish MechScape pictures on their own site. Most (all) of the 'scoops' came through MechScapeWorld.

Well, if they're finally starting to realize that giving one fansite all the exclusive info is nothing but favoritism, then I applaud Jagex for choosing another attitude. Secondly, www.stellardawn.com redirects to FunOrb, although we're about 99% sure Stellar Dawn is going to be MechScape's real name.

Point three, the armoured soldier guy has a 3D wire model. Why would they make a 3D wire model for a FunOrb game? I really cannot believe Jagex would make some big 3D game that resembles MechScape, pardon me, Stellar Dawn, this much and let it be a simple FunOrb game.

That, and this concept art looks very much like the other Stellar Dawn concept art, and it just fits the style overall. I'm 99% positive this is for Stellar Dawn.

The first one can be used in just about any sci-fi related game. It looks to be a visual representation of a memory storage device, a hard drive for example, but things like that have been used for just about anything. The perspective is from a flying camera, not a character, and the scene wouldn't be good for navigating in a game anyway, so I'm thinking it's going to be used in the intro or a cutscene of whatever game it's for. Most likely an intro.

But there is a cross-hair in there... Maybe this is like RuneScape's blue blocks, just for some sort of flying vehicle scene?

The second one shows a wireframe model. From my modeling and game programming experience, this is about the same quality of any PC game you buy and install nowadays. There is no way this is going into a small FunOrb game unless Jagex is seriously raising their standards for those games. MechScape is supposed to have much better graphics than RuneScape, so this fits. I really like the glowing on the gun and backpack, as this is something RuneScape has yet to do very well. The current engine simply doesn't allow RuneScape to simulate lighting from any particular source very well.

The second piece tells us something else about the game: We'll be getting closer looks at our characters than what we're given in RuneScape. Believe me, this quality simply isn't necessary from the distances the RuneScape cameras force us to view our characters from. We simply wouldn't be able to see it. However, from a closer, third person perspective, this quality would stand out. A third person perspective also provides evidence for WASD or arrow key movement, as point/click movement is pretty difficult while looking forward.

Nice find. I'll see if I can get anything else out of these pictures. Maybe the logo on his chest...

Hello all,

...

1 - Both screen shots are from FunOrb games. Then first one is from a work-in-process title using our new hardware accelerated graphics API. It doesn't look like much at the moment (lots of green lines and blocks) but it represents a multiplayer flight-sim, shoot em up. The second is a shot of some concept artwork from the re-work of Hostile Spawn.

Didn't they say it was suppost to be out this year? I doubt that it is comming out this year.

They hinted at it being in Q1 2009 (April-June for Jagex), but they never committed to a date. Right now it's complete and in the "final internal testing and polishing", so we're getting pretty close. The problem is that "pretty close" is relative, and none of knows what length of time it's relative to.

Personally, I think there's no chance of it taking any longer than halfway through next year, but don't quote me on that. I'm hoping with the rest of you that it won't even be 1/4 of the way through next year, or even this year yet, but we really don't know.
