I realize that we have a filesize limit on signatures to keep page load times at a minimum, but what purpose does a cap on dimension size serve? After all, any dimensions too large are turned into scroll bars, so it really isn't a big deal. And yes, I'm aware that some people find scroll bars annoying, but, in my experience, it's actually harder to get stuck in one than get out of one. Thus, as far as I'm concerned, if the load times are still the same, why put a limit on dimensions?

Question a) Have you been on forums without them?

If you answered yes to Question a, did you notice uberly massive signatures that took forever to scroll past?

I don't really understand what you're getting at. Are you saying that if we didn't have scroll bars, it would be a pain to have higher signature limits? If so, your argument is moot considering that we do in fact have scroll bars in place.

Sorry thought you said get rid of scroll bars as well bleh.gif But scroll bars look ugly and I always get stuck in them sad.gif

I think what he is trying to say is that sometimes, if your scrolling down the page you have to scroll through the scrollbars in the signature too.

I find scrollbars pretty annoying, I get stuck on oversized ones a lot. Having no cap or a higher one would be pretty annoying.

I get stuck too; but in that case I don't complain and demand they be all banned. Man up, and just move your mouse away from the scrollbar. It's that simple, and it takes less than a second. I barely notice, and I'm not even annoyed.

Guess who I'm rooting for.

Maybe it's just me, but........signatures were never meant to be huge. Weren't they designed just be a little blurb at the bottom of all your comments? Forums are for discussion after all.

If you want a bunch of pictures, text, and links, it seems more like you should make a website.

There is no horizontal scroll-bar. By removing dimension limits, you are opening the door for signatures to stretch the page layout.

No horizontal scrollbar?

I don't really see a problem with the scrollbars.
It's easy enough, just move your mouse to outside of the signature and scroll down, scrolling has never annoyed me.
Personally, I'd quite like an increased dimension size.

Whose signature is that?

Then it's poorly setup because I've never seen it on the hundreds of signatures I've reported. Whose signature is that?

That's Beret's signature (although I don't see the horizantal scroll bar).

The thing is that different people use different resolutions. On a netbook you're cramped for space and you'll see more scrollbars. If you have a bigger 22" screen you're not going to see very many.

I think it's best just to have a set limit to keep everything neat and tidy.

That's exactly what I was getting at. There is no "standard" screen resolution anymore.

Why do we have scrollbars anyway? I'd say just put a filesize cap and give the users a 500 * 200 area that can't have a scrollbar. Everything that's too big gets cut off, this will give no long pages caused by oversized signatures and no annoying scrollbars that stop you scrolling.

Or simplified: remove the scrollbars.

Scrolling with the mousewheel will STILL scroll through what's cut off, so that would not resolve anything.

I usuall makes my sigs fairly big.. like 500x200 or some time 700x250.

biggrin.gif i like huge sigs, you can add multiple renders and make it look really cool.

The downside to that is the tripled filesize.

I don't think that's what he meant - more like that it'll literally get cut off and not 'exist'.

I know that it meant what you said, but I don't think it's possible. unsure.gif
