So when I heard Obama was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize, my first reaction was "Wow...That's Random".
I believe Obama himself did not expect it, and I am not too sure if he is even happy to be receiving it- This is a big challenge for him,
he now has even more pressure to live up the peoples created image of Obama than before.
To me it seems like Obama received the Peace prize for just not being bush laugh.gif

What are your thoughts on this?

I think it's bullcrap that Obama got the prize, I don't think he deserved it personally, he wrecked the auto companies, he's not helping the economy like he promised, he's planning to send more troops to Iraq, and he worries more about foreign affairs than his own country. I think this is downright ridiculous.

The peace prize is about peace, not the economy. Obama's down quite a bit as far as making less people hate America goes. He's just got Bushes mess to clean up atm.
Also if he's worried about foreign affairs that seems like good grounds to consider him for a potential FUTURE prize winner. It's not the American Peace Prize it's the Nobel Peace Prize what he's done in America is irrelevant and as far as sending troops to Iraq goes as far as anyone knows America is liberating and helping create peace in Iraq and while i highly highly doubt that's the case, we can't really use conspiracy theories to argue against who the peace prize is going to.

What I find interesting is that all nominations must be submitted to the committee by February 1st. Obama was inaugurated on January 20th. He had been in office not even a month and he was nominated as a possible recipient. That is the most interesting point of this whole debacle.

I'm just going to repeat myself since this applies

You know, when you say that you opened the door for a couple of old ladies, even in satire, is really underestimating Obama's current achievements. No, I'm not saying that the committee was bang on, yes, it may have been premature, but the reactions I've seen here are frankly appalling because you can't say that Obama did completely nothing. He inherited a mess, you know that. It would be irresponsible to reverse everything within his contexts. However, he's trying, which is something that hasn't been seen out of anyone within the last ten years, and which is something that is more than walking a few old ladies. That being said, the award was premature, but get on with it. He even said that he didn't deserve to be within those who held the prize.

The prize itself can't hold any of your standards, or any of whoever posted here. Peace isn't something that happens constantly. In fact, conflicts overshadow eachother constantly. With the exception of charitable associations/organizations, the majority of laureates have been advocates of ongoing questions. Is there peace in the middle east? Have we reversed the effects of global warming? Have all third world countries faced developmental chances at the citizen's level? Have human rights been distributed to each citizen in this world. Is everyone truly equal?

But these people are trying and they've tried harder than you, even Obama. Jimmy Carter was trying for 22 years, until he won his prize in '02.

In the end, Obama did the right thing. He accepted it, but did so for the future.
