Chapter 1

Brialga, a barbarian in the Barbarian Village brandished her long steel spear, getting ready for the coming battle. She saw a horseback rider galloping toward them, and she looked curiously at the shadowy figure under a green-and-brown hood.

The man had a magically-light Elven crystal bow and a gleaming steel sword by his side. Brialga advanced, carrying her clean spear. The man was a follower of Guthix's way, she noted angrily. The barbarians were not going to side with any of the gods. So she threw the spear. The man and all the other barbarians looked in horror and shock, but she just grinned confidently -- the spear easily bounced off midair as if there were an invisible shield there.

The man looked up, his stern face keeping calm. He calmly brushed the hood off and said patiently, "Do not throw that at me again, ma'am. Just begging your pardon." The horse trotted at a lively pace past her, and she just stood there in shock. How could the spear have missed?

The man, Tharalk, a follower of Guthix and a powerful magic-wielder brushed away the sharp spear. He muttered to himself, "The women of today..." and went up to the woman. "I'm sorry, ma'am. I'm here on a diplomatic mission to talk to Gunthor, your mighty king."

And with that, he easily passed the woman, heading for the Great Hall of the puny village.

He quietly entered the horse's mind and with the power of Guthix, convinced him to stay there. After, he entered the Hall. Three crackling fires were lit at the end of the hallway, and two long rows of tables and benches were lined on either side of the hall, creating a path in the middle of the hall.

A dozen or so barbarians who were once laughing and slapping each other like brothers suddenly fell silent when the unknown warrior entered the hall. The torches and the three fires were the only lights left in the room; and sounds. A few uncomfortable shuffling sounds accompanied half a dozen barbarian warriors left the room, very much uncomfortable.

Gunthor the Brave stood with his large two-handed broadsword shaped strangely like a leaf and smiled. "Many greetings, fair Warrior. What brings you here? Your useless -- "

Tharalk stopped the man in mid-sentence. "I," said the Guthixian, "do not care what you say, nor the insults you hurl at me. All I say, is that you must join forces with Saradomin, or else chaos will terrorize your whole village.

"I will think about it. Please leave." And with that, Tharalk left, galloping off back to Falador.
