Full Version: Di Closes
Sal's RuneScape Forum > Everything RuneScape > PvP: Skills, Tips 'n' Kills
Micael Fatia
I'm sure some of you have heard about this already, but I thought it was worth sharing for those who have not heard about it. Damage Inc the P2P (and F2P) giant closed. I'm posting this here and not in the CD section because 1. Sal's CD is dead and 2. Some of the best P2P PKers were in DI, so this is related to PKing.
Taken from Ghjjf's topic on DI's forums:
QUOTE
I do this not because I have to, I do this because I want to

Like the title says, the majority of clans these days close because leaders or other officials simply do no longer have the time. In my case, this isnt the reason I've taken this decision. No I'm not one of those people who come out with those statements like, "I'm quitting RS to get a life", "I'm quitting RS because I want to focus on school". In truth the reason im quitting is because I want to.

This decision is not one I take easily, I mean after five years of work its hard to just suddenly decide you want to call it a day on something. Ive considered this for many months. (About four to be exact). I know the first thing that many of you will think is, you're going to regret this. No, I truely am not going to regret this decision. Most of you might not understand, but to be a leader you need to commit yourself to the game and therefore you feel like you're tied to it. I don't want to feel tied to the game anymore. It's not something that interests me anymore.

I guess if you were to try sum up why im quitting, I'd say, some of you may remember this quote:

QUOTE
So yea like I said ive been leader of DI for nearly 4 years now and alot of people ask why havent I quit by now, or how do I keep going after all that time. Well the answer is im not bored of it. I still enjoy it and if I didnt enjoy it I would of quit by now.

Well yea.

As for what I plan on doing in the future? Well probably nothing really, I don't plan on disappearing or anything, i mean I'll still come on the computer pretty often and I'll still be on IRC, however I most definitely won't be doing anything runescape related. I won't ever join another clan, nor will I ever re-open DI. I didn't actually even play anyway besides PK trips.

Well that's enough about me. What about DI?

Over the years this question has come up many times, as to who would lead DI if I was to quit or retire. Well the answer is no one unfortunately. Call me selfish, call me greedy, but this is the way it was meant to be. There was never going to be another leader after me and I think thats the way most ex/current old school members would prefer it to be.

To all the current members of DI:

I'm sorry I had to do it this way. It may not of been the best way or time to do it, but as I said, this decision was made months ago and there was never going to be a "right" time to do it. I didn't tell anyone on purpose, although I did alude to the fact this decision was coming sometime down the road, just not when. Right up until this post I acted like nothing was going to happen and to just do it on you might feel wrong and that I don't care about you. However, you need to look at it my way. If I didn't do this now, I'd of probably never did it. Once its done its done. I realise many of you will probably quit runescape but many of you will probably also join other clans, to those that do I wish you goodluck. I know in the last few weeks there was problems that I could of fixed, but in truth I ignored most of them because I knew this was coming. I may not of been the best leader but when I led I gave it 100% and always did my best for this clan. I'd like to think due to that fact all of you (even EX-DI) can respect this decision.

You will all still remain members of DI and I will still keep our teamspeak up (as long as it continues to pay for it). I will also keep our IRC channels running for anyone who wants to use them. Like I said I'll still be around fairly often, maybe even on a daily basis for a bit, but maybe not after that. I'll also keep you all added so you can use my clan chat.

What about DI forums:

Well as long as they continue to pay for themselves, I'll still keep them up and running. I may even make some actual guest mods if the levels of activity are maintained. However, they pay for themselves, so if they die out then they won't pay for themselves. (On a slightly unrelated note, inb4themario, no I never got a single $ from the ad money nor will I ever do so, nor will anyone else).

What else is there to say?

I guess there isnt much else to say, I won't do shoutouts because like I said im not totally disappearing. I'll still be around quite often for anyone who wants to talk to me (although don't talk to me about the decision because I won't go back on it).

Many of you thought this day would never come, but its finally here. Many of you will probably be happy to see that DI is closing, but in all honesty, I can say I really don't care what you think, because if I did I'd be bragging about DI's achievements and what not. At the end of the day its a just a game and we all move on at some stage. I hope everyone who was a member of DI over the past 5 years had a good time and enjoyed their time here. Although most of you won't admit it there truely was never another clan like DI.

but now it's time to move on and let history be my judge.

I really wasn't expecting this at all, I mean, I knew DI was in P2P slump but they were definitely still strong on F2P. For those that do not know DI was at one point #1 P2P and #1 F2P at the same time, I can't think of any other clan that has accomplished such a thing.
I also think Flako Rlz should have been Promoted to DI leader, he would of done a fine job. slanty.gif
Some of you know I was going to join DI, I already had my application saved on notepad and everything, I was just waiting to get 94 Magic first. R.I.P. DI.

Well I don't want this to be a pointless topic with no discussion value so here:

How will DI's closure effect the clan world and RuneScape's P2P PvP?

Personally I think this is bad for P2P PvP, there is no clan that can stop RoT now, maybe RSD + TT but that's two clans, in a 1v1 as much as I hate to admit RoT is unstopabble.
What are your thoughts on this?
(Please keep this topic clean, no spamming, flaming, trolling or personal attacks. (Yes this is for you Breaker))

Ok, so a clan has closed?
IF there is another leader why doesn't he just set up ID with all the old members
Cal
I honestly don't know much/squat about PvP clans, but I knew DI was good.
Pity to see such a large organization fall because of one person ;S
Ruin
Sad about Di though they were a fun clan to watch.

Easl - DI wasn't just "a clan". DI was a one of the best RuneScape clans ever (and possibly the best), DI dominated both F2P and P2P for years and their memberlist consisted mainly of top PKers.
Being the leader of a clan isn't just having a memberlist and a cool name, it's much more than that. Ghjjf is probably the most famous person of the clan world and one of the best leaders of all time. If Ghjjf publicy stated that he wanted Flako Rlz to lead DI I'm sure that 90% of the clan would have stayed in DI but made it very clear that no one in the clan was good enough to take the leadership of DI. If anyone tried to start a "new DI" with the same members it just wouldn't work because half of the clan would refuse to be led by someone else under a new name.
I noticed you didn't bother answering my question which makes me think you didn't even read my post.
I'd appreciate it a lot if you didn't post just for post count at least in my topics.

Cal - Yeah DI was good and it is a pity to see such a good clan close, I really don't know what is going to happen to P2P now, there are very few P2P PK based clans. Only FoF, Brutality, RDK and of course RoT (and sometimes RSD and TT).
I'm guessing pures are going to take over P2P. tongue.gif

DO you really know so little of people dude, there will be power struggles, half of the peopel will go with one guy, and the other half with another guy, and some people wont like either of them.

RIP Di, if only because they kept main wars fair, the way they where meant to be, its a pity really, but sadly life moves on, my first clan Hatr3d Pkerz quit excatly like this did, we where doing well, beating top 5 clans in 7v7 mini's etc, we where preparing a challenge for the RaW List etc, but leader just moved on. He comes on sometimes but we've all grown up!

I can see from your posts Micael, you are taking this rather emotionally, trust me in this, been there done that wink.gif, just move on, find yourself again.

Respect to Ghjjf for closing. I also hate to admit Damage Inc was around longer and was the better clan in the summer, but we took it up a notch and went 6-1 in them after summer ended including the 10 hour fight. Respect to Damage Inc, Respect to Ghjjf, Respect to oergg and radicalsurfu for closing di on their birthdays. RIP DI

Lol what? Of course I'm sad to see my favourite clan and the clan I was going to join close but I'm not going to cry about it. I made this topic because the closure of DI will effect the clan world and the P2P PK world in a good or bad way and I want to know the other peoples views on this. tongue.gif
Pardon me if I get a bit irritated when people post sarcastic responses like easl did.

I'd have to agree with micael fatia, i'd take it rather emotionally if my clan closed down and i'd work so hard defending them

sad to see di go was a great clan good to see he went out like that the way he did politely

P2P PvP will now pretty much be dominated by RoT due to RoT and DI having been in their own league of strength.

DI was probably the best clan, a legend that only happens once. Having lived for so long and continueing to hold the #1 P2P for 85% of the time that they were alive and being the dominant F2P before DS came and challenged them with clans discussing whether to end or not when they heard DI was out.

DI were pioneers and in the end they were unchallenged in their position of legendary rs clan.

It's sad to see a clan like this go. Even though there were many haters, when it's all said and done. They proved that they could back up their claims.

As I suspected, the clan world is thinning out. Since many of the old school members will quit whereas the newer FAs and members will only join new top clans. Distancing the top clans from the few smaller clans out there even more.

Divine Slayers was the best Clan ever but Di was a close second

It's bad to see clans that I have long respected die.

I look at the top 30 clans now and don't even recognize up to 80% of them.

Shouldn't P_min3r or oergg be the leader? They seem like much cooler kids

DS was only dominant for around 6-7 months, DI was #1 for 2 years with no competition. Even when DS was #1 DI was still better, DS only beat DI so many times because they had "anti-DI" members and clans attacking DI only. Pretty much what's happening to VR right now, they are bigger than DF but they always lose to DF because of all the Corr+EoS+rest of the anti-VR alliance always attacking VR members. It's like 4 v 1. DI had a much bigger impact on the clan world than DS in my opinion and you can't argue DI has achieved more then any other clan.

How many more times are you going to say that? Yes RoT dominated DI in the last 2 months but DI dominated RoT for years. closedeyes.gif
