This is the story of the Plague, a disease that could cause the downfall of an entire nation, Inalalla, ruled by King Call. At first, it was nothing more than another sickness, people hardly able to tell it from other lowly diseases. However, it started to become more potent, then began spreading, a highly contagious disease. A dark cloud cloaked the land (literally, a cloud blocked out the sun, and it hasn't lifted since, the nation now constantly in darkness). People all across the nation began catching it. Deciding it was turning into a serious matter, King Call founded Haven, a medical facility, and hired healers, magicians, physicians, etc. (any kind of healer you could think of) to work at it. However, they could not stop this disease from spreading and spreading. Then, it became more serious, beginning to kill people off. Quickly, outside nations shut down anything linking themselves with the nation. Worried, King Call hired plague seekers (or just seekers). These were a special type of healer heavily clothed in protective gear that would travel around the nation, capturing those with the Plague and taking them to Haven. Though many people hated them, because they seperated families, they were really heroic. They every day put themselves in contact with the Plague so they could hurry infected off to Haven to help them and prevent the disease from spreading. Without them, Inalalla would surely already be nothing but landfill.
It become more serious beyond imagining, however, as every cure that was available before suddenly stopped working. But that's not the worse part, I'm afraid. As soon as someone would die from the Plague, they would suddenly come back to life, seemingly mindless and hungry for flesh, and they would go crazy and attack anything that moved. They were the undead, and there's almost nothing that could kill them, save a good blow to the brain or heart (or by separating the brain from the heart, like by the neck). Haven had to taken back from the pestilant monsters, and guards had to be assigned to protect it. However, the zombie count across the nation rose, and King Call, once again, took action, hiring Paladins, warriors specially-trained in the art of killing the undead and healing the hurt. So everything's gotten worse since then. However, there was a boy in a town called Filz who had gotten the Plague, then suddenly got better, and everything thinks the answer lie with him, so guards have been sent to Filz (the name of the town) to retrive him and bring him to Haven, where the cure is hoped to be found.
Place yourself wherever you want in this RP. Such as, you can be the boy's guard, you can be a healer at Haven, etc. or you can be something of your own design. If you want to be a villain, however, contact me via PM and I'll give you some information on the villains of this RP ('cause I want 'em to be mysterious for the moment). That's only if you're completely and seriously interested in being a villain, though. Anyway, this RP is a medieval-fantasy type RP, so anything in that category goes for your characters (Such as magic, and races such as elves, dwarves, gnomes, brownies, etc.). I do have a few rules, however.
Rules
1. Don't even bother trying to join unless you're genuinely interested in this RP and plan on posting in it on a regular basis.
2. Don't overpower your characters. It just gets annoying when characters get into fights and the fights take forever because both players think their characters are too good to be defeated.
3. Don't control other players' characters, unless you have their permission first.
4. Follow all the other rules of this forum, please.
5. Have fun. Seriously, that's a rule. If you don't have fun, then the posts are of less quality.
6. Please try to keep up with the RP. Really, it gets annoying when we all have to post summaries when a person hasn't read the RP in a while. Also, don't just skim-read. When people do that, they miss things, and then their posts aren't consistent, and they have to get fixed.
7. If you can, post the time of day. I don't mean 6:42 p.m. I mean like midday, morning, mid-night, evening, etc. Maybe the month and day, if you feel the need. For reference, we'll start the RP at around July 12, during the summer. It's hot, but the sun isn't out because of the clouds overcasting the land.
8. You absolutely must use the best grammar you can. Nobody likes to read stuff that looks like words were thrown into your mouth, chewed, then spit up into your post.
Will write more rules as they come to me. That goes for the rest of this first post. Will write more info as it comes to me.

Scorpion
Name: Hallow
Gender: Male
Age: 34
Race: Human
Appearance: Short, black hair (but no facial hair), pale skin, bright blue eyes, and he's tall and muscular.
Equipment: Wears a white shirt, black pants, a black jacket, black boots, and a giant sword he carries on his back.
History (optional): Hallow was once just a farm worker. However, the rest of his family got infected by the Plague, then died. They never became zombies, however, because they didn't catch the Plague when the disease was at that level. Then, the outside nations cut off their links with Inalalla, and Hallow didn't get to communicate with his family from the other nations, angering him. He was found in a graveyard, crying, by a vampire. Vampires aren't nearly as dangerous as the zombies, mostly because of both they're not mindless and they've got far less in numbers. Anyway, the vampire found the sight pitiful, so he took Hallow (his name he got from being found in a graveyard) and trained him to be an excellent fighter, using techniques that required strength, forcefulness, and directness, but also tactics. He also taught him to hold honor above all else. Then, the vampire left, when he deemed Hallow worthy enough, and Hallow went off to do his own thing. At first, he became a plague seeker. It wasn't pleasant, and it certainly required a great deal of mental strength, but who else would do it if not him? It needed to be done, and he had to strength to do it. When the zombies started to appear, he was at Haven, and it was he and several others who were able to take Haven back. Afterwards, when King Call hired Paladins, Hallow trained to become one and then began his work as one. When news came of a boy who could hold the answer, Hallow quickly volunteered to be a guard, and he's currently on his way to the town the boy's at, along with several others.
Other: Hates zombies, loves killin' 'em.

What's up with the Japanese-sounding names? C'mon, all role-plays aren't anime. This is a fantasy setting, and it's general assumption that it's based in a medieval-European setting.

I didn't get the names from Japanese words. I never get my names from Japanese words. They're not random, either. Take Inalalla, for example. I got it from the words final and fall, because this could be the final fall of a nation. Final fall. Inal all. Inalall. Then I just added an A to the end.
EDIT: Also take Ackart, for example. A name I often use for my characters or NPCs. It comes from the words black and heart. Black heart. Ack art. Ackart.

OoC: Time to get this started, I'd say.
IC: Hallow walked down the dirt road. Before, before all of this, he would've gone by horse. Not now, however. The horses, now few in numbers, were needed for many other things, mostly food and military purposes. Now, he had to walk all the way to Filz. He had to, he told himself, for the good of the nation. For the good of everyone, at that. If Inalalla could not defeat the Plague, all hope would be lost for all other nations.
He sighed. Everything was so different now. The whole world was different. He looked around. The first thing you'd notice was the plant life. It was all dead, withered away. It was a miracle they could grow any food at all to keep themselves alive. Which reminded Hallow of food. He grabbed his stomach as it growled at the mere thought of food, and he groaned.
Besides that, if you so happened to go through any town, you'd find that it looked dead, as well. Everything was worn out nowadays, old-looking. Like a ghost town, and you'd never see anyone, because they were always inside, to get away from the zombies, save when they were farming or something similar.
Then, you'd notice the sky. It was completely overcast with clouds, but it wasn't dark for some reason. The whole world was filled with dull colors of light, such as oranges and reds, like at sunrise or sunset. However, it was pitch black in the night, and it was always quiet, because all life seemed to have gone away from the world, save a few pests who were so large in number before that the Plague didn't wipe them all out like the other animals.
Suddenly, a chill went down Hallow's spine, and he got the feeling again. The feeling like something bad was going to happen. The one he'd get when he was a Plague seeker. Unfortunately, it always proved true, and this time was no exception.
He knew it was coming when he heard the distinct groans, and he broke out into a run. He knew it'd be useless, however. And quickly, the zombies burst from the dead brush, closing in around him in a circle. There weren't that many, but they were deadly and hard to kill.
If you got bit, especially, there was a good chance of getting the Plague. "Liest o' erif!" cried Hallow, taking his sword from his back and pointing it at a zombie, and bright fire jumped from the sword, latching onto one of the zombies, and it ran screaming. The others were angered by the heat and the light, and they jumped on Hallow, and he had to try his best not to get bit by any.
He slashed his sword everwhere, wounding zombies the best he could. When he'd broke free from most of them, he grabbed one that was still on him by the neck and slammed it against the tree. Then, he thrust his sword into its heart. Then, he jumped backwards and slashed off the head of another.
However, he could quickly see that this area was a majorly infected one. There must've been a town nearby that got too out of control, for the fight was attracting more zombies. And Hallow knew if no one would appear and help him, there was the chance he might not get away...

Arbre was sitting still, watching for any movement at all. His roots were picking up vibrations of movements not far from here. I better check it out. Arbre said to himself. He closed his eyes and opened them back up, he was staring at a man slashing at the undead. "Quick!" Arbre yelled to the man, his roots rumbled from the ground and wrapped around the undead's ankles, holding them still as they tried to break free. "Run past me, the area is all clear, I'll meet you." Arbre said, twisting his roots harder around the undead.

Leo, the boy's name isn't Filz. That's the name of the town he's from. The boy is nameless so far.
I'll go make that clearer in my post. Sorry 'bout that, if it's my fault.
IC: Hallow got confused when the tree began moving and talking. Then, the zombies were caught in a trap of roots. Quickly, Hallow ran where the tree told him to go. When he got there, he said, "You'd better be careful, tree. Plants can catch the Plague, as well. I'm sure you're no exception. I'll ask you how you can move and talk later. Right now, we should get out of here." then began running south, towards Filz.

In the middle of a deserted path, there lay a corpse. The corpse was your normal corpse, infected by the Plague and sure to be raising any minute. The corpse had something different about it, though. This corpse lay on possibly the safest route to Filz, and started shuffling though.
This is where the corpse's story begins, ironically.
So, is this what death is like? A cold, black emptiness? This is depressing. Am I really dead? It happened so fa- OW! The hell? What was that?
Vexxus slowly stood up, and stumbled a bit. His stomache made him seelf hungry, and his tounge craved flesh. He dusted himself off and looked around. His left cheek itched, and he was shocked when he felt the coald, meaty feeling of muscle. He looked around, feeling small in his new surroundings.
"Hello? Is anyone out there?" He called out, hoping for some help.

But, they're not biological zombies. None of their organs actually work, and they're just re-animated bodies. The reason they die when struck in the heart is that the spirits that re-animate them are held there. The reason they're killed when struck in the brain is because that's what links them to their host, which I can't say anymore about without saying more about the villain(s), which I want to be mysterious. And the reason they're killed when those two are separated is because the spirits in the heart must somehow be connected to the host, which is connected by the brain. In fact, the Plague isn't even biological in nature. It's magical in nature.
Do you want to still go with that character, since those could be his beliefs? Also, do you want me to tell you about the host, if you want your character to be somehow connected to them/him/her?
I'll post an IC later today.

IC: Hallow ran down the road, not stopping to see if the tree was behind him. If he ran far enough and fast enough, the zombies would lose interest in him. When he stopped, he would turn to see if the tree was still behind him. He thought the tree would be smart enough to run, as well, but he didn't know, and if the tree wasn't behind him, he'd turn back to save him. Then, Hallow finally turned to see if the tree was there, but he wasn't, yet, when Hallow tripped over something. Quickly, he jumped up and turned to what it was. Then, he was snapped to by the fiery display. His expression of anger had returned, and he bolted for the zombie and knocked him to the ground.
Then, he held his sword up to his throat. "That display was proof that you cannot be trusted, zombie. You know, I hate zombies. However, since you, for some reason, have resisted the effects of the mutation and retained your humanity, you still have life in you, and it is against my beliefs for me to kill you. I warn you, though, zombie, that you should probably leave, because if you come with us and lose control and hurt an innocent again, I'll have no choice but to kill you." Hallow said before sheathing his blade and extending his hand for the half-rotted man to take.

OOC: Scorpion, could you give me a heads-up of when you guys get to Filz? Then I can start getting into this roleplay. For now, I'll make...rather slack IC's.
IC: As he watched over the boy wonder, whom was also wondering himself about why he had a bodyguard, Leo thought about things.
He thought and thought and thought.
Then he stopped thinking. It was good to feel like that.

IC: "It is no problem." John said, letting the fire go out as quickly as it had come. "If I had wanted to kill you, this pillar would have appeared under you, rather then infront of you..." John paused to listen. This time he turned to speak to the assembled group. "I believe that this little display has served as a beakon for other Zombies..." In the middle of his sentence, the man who had been standing still moments before knocked the talking Zombie over... As the man offered his hand, John spoke once more, this time directly to the Zombie. "You are indeed unique... You should accompany us...." John turned to speak with the man. "If he should accept, if he loses control again, I give you my word he will not beable to harm another innocent while I am around..."

IC: Rizzo, after seeing the fire reside, got up from the stump. Walking quietly, he approached the assembled group. None of them noticed him.
"Good evening, gentlemen." Rizzo said to the group. They looked behind themselves to listen to this new voice. "I see you have an unusual zombie on your hands." Rizzo nodded at Vexxus before continuing. "I believe you would be wise as not to harm him, because, as you have said, he may be some use to us for battling the Plague. As for myself, I only wish to join you upon your adventure."

Vexxus took a step back, "What do you think the others would do? Other un-infected, I mean, would kill me faster before you could say 'zombie.' Besides, I honestly don't know if I can resist the temptation of devouring you both. Your flesh just smells so good...like a turkey dinner." He said, "But I could serve as assistance to you, though. Scouting ahead, making sure it's clear. I'm fairly certain the zombies aren't going to eat me."
Vexxus eyed the new man, "Use? You're planning on using me for your own selfish needs? I don't care if you want to stop the plauge, you're not cutting me open. I'm not a cure, as you can see. I'm just as infectyed as anyone else. I guess I just had a stronger will to live."

Hallow sighed after realizing just how many people had appeared, a lot. He didn't even know there were this many people left willing to leave the confines of their housing. "Don't worry, zombie. We have no intention of cutting you open. You see, I'm heading to Filz. There, there's a by who had caught the Plague, but immediately got better, amazingly. I'm going there to retrieve him and take him to Haven, where they hope to discover the cure with him. Now, for any of you who want to help me and are able to control their temptations, a true sign of strength, come with me. If not, I wish you a safe journey." said Hallow, and he eyed the zombie suspiciously and resentfully before heading south again, towards Filz. He realized if everyone there decided to join, the combination of all of them would be able to keep the zombie in check.

"I'm coming. I may be somewhat of one of them, but that still doesn't mean I can live..or, er, die adventurous." Vexxus said, following the man.
"Oh, and the name's Vexxus, so stop calling me zombie. And if any one of you die, I call dibs on the remains." He joked. Even in death, he was trying to lighten the mood.

IC: "If you need anymore assurance that I can keep you from eating me, at the very least, Zombie, observe." John chanted a few words, and instantly his clothing became engluphed in fire... Followed by his entire body, minus his head. The fire hung around John for twenty seconds before winking out as quickly as it came.
John turned and walked quickly up the human with the large sword. "I am going towards that boy, myself, to guard him, so I will accompany you, also."

IC: Rizzo flinched slightly at John's use of magic. Fire was a perfect way to combat zombies. However, Rizzo had his own way of combat.
"I will also come. I believe that you all may need me in some way or another. I may be an old man, but I can old my own in a fight." After he said this, a piercing light seemed to emit from his body. John looked at Rizzo, but then the light faded. "I have other uses besides light. Fear not if you become injured." Rizzo then walked after Hallow into adventure.

"No one is to touch the zombie again except me." Arbre interupted. "He is a very unuaslly zombie, yes, but he can talk and has a human personality, making him very usefull to my studies." Arbre said, his roots started to break away from the ground. "I believe none of us have even met, I am Arbre, the great tree as some may call me." Arbre said, extending his trunk as tall as he could. "I am a professional healer, but healing the plague is something I can not do." Arbre said, his trunk starting to shrink down some. Some of his roots popped out of the ground, making rubble move against the zombie's feet.
"Take these." Arbre said, handing everyone in the group a little bottle of a green substance. "He is a small healing potion that can heal almost any type of wound, except a bite or scrath from the zombies. It is very rare in these days though, because of the plague." Arbre explained as his roots wrenched back into the ground and made a clenching sound as they tightened into teh dirt.
OoC:
Arbre isn't a stuck up doctor, but he does want to help cure the plague.

Void was on the outskirts of Filz, waiting for night to fall. He was waiting for zombies, these unique zombies. His hidden face glowered with its yellow eyes. He waited and that was all. A zombie and two skeletons of his own creation milled about aimlessly around him.
OOC: Why is everybody so afraid of zombies when even good leather would protect from their bites? I haven't seen a reason why yet.

Hallow smiled as they all volunteered to help. This was what true unity was. When many people came together to help, not themselves, but the rest of the world. He even had to smile when the zombie said he'd join, despite his hatred for zombies. He had to admit, though, that this zombie was unlike any other, and he was beginning to admire him. He was, however, far from trusting him. "Know this, zomb... umm... Vexxus. I will try my best to get along with you. I will even try my best to trust you, but that's a far ways away, so don't make any mistakes. Hold that urge inside you." said Hallow. After that, the group began heading south. However, after a while, Hallow noticed the sun going down, and he said, "Damn! I though Filz was so much clos-" but held his tongue when he saw smoke in the distance. He smelled the air and realized it was a cooking fire, for he could smell food. He smiled, then said, "We've made it. Just in time, too, for the sun is about to go down, and we could use the refuge of this town."
OoC: This is where you can enter, Leo.
EDIT: OoC: Because they're hard to kill, almost impossible, and their bites and scratches are abnormally powerful.

OOC: Still, teeth aren't exactly sharp and nails are rather brittle and wouldn't grow on zombies, with good boiled leather which can give moderate protection from simple bows and slashes from non-curved blades should be able to more then adequately resist puncturing.
If it sounds like I'm picking to much, I'm sorry, its just RPs draw me because unlike games one isn't restricted by mechanics. Success is reliant wholly on ones reasoning and intelligence. So I need info to insure successful actions.
So when can I enter?
