Is the internet as bad as the people say it is? Does it really rot brains? (Not really but you get my point)

Is it a joyful place as two long-lost friends reunite?

Or is it another reason to end your life as a girl commits suicide after reading her ex-friend's harsh comments on a social website?

Is it a place to chill out?

Or another place to commit crime?

Is it a fairly new way to make money?

Or to lose it?

Is it a helpful place as we do out homework?

Or is it a place we spend all of our time on, that we start losing our social lives and physical strength?

Is it a good place?

Or is it bad?

We all understand that the internet is massive, no one will be able to go on all of the possible websites in the World Wide Web.

But is a majority of the websites bad?

Or is it an valuable tool?

Or you use it because you have no choice?

I have no idea....

I'd say practically all of your scenarios on the internet are true. The internet can be bad, can be used to steal, can be used to prosper, can be used to commit crime, can be the cause of suicide, can be the cause of great enjoyment, and reconciling with friends!

The internet is quite a lot, because it has quite a lot, you can't put one thing on it. If you play 24/7 on some stupid game like I dunno, Runescape, it will put a dent on your social life. If you play a couple hours a day when not out with your friends, it's just an enjoyable way to pass the time!

It's impossible to say the internet is either 'good' or 'bad', it's both depending on how you use it. So don't misuse it.

It's a place to play RuneScape.

But I also like the Internet because Google lets me find ANYTHING I would ever want.

if internet didn't exists, i would have to get my information for school from books.. tongue.gif

The internet is for porn.

I think the internet is whatever you make it out to be. In my case this is a mix of horrors, laughs, and disappointments. It probably should be for everyone.

I kinda think this can be a good AND bad thing.
Personally, I think the Internet depends on how you use it. And then that affects what other people find there. But out of all of the websites out there, I think there might be a 50/50 chance of finding something bad.

It is a tool. A tool can be used to further man, or to degrade him.

An axe can be used to split wood to warm a fireplace in winter, and yet that same axe can be used to murder a man.

A tool is only limited to the imagination, yet sadly man tends to meets his own needs before that of others.

Do we better ourselves as an individual(financially, socially, etc), or as a species?

That is our choice.

It is up to us to decide how to use that tool, be it good or bad.

k nuff seriousness it's for pr0n.

Bwehehehehehe. aware.gif

In all seriousness any tool can either be used or misused. Then again, morality is relative.

Internet is the single greatest invention of all time. No arguing.

Or, even better, you can use a man to warm a fireplace in winter (if you don't mind the stench!)

(otherwise, I agree with your post aware.gif)

Computers? Internet is not an invention so much as one huge computer made from lots of other computers.

+1

If not the greatest then one of the greatest. like many creations, it can be abused. But the bad isn't enough to out-weigh the possibilities it poses for progress and development.

The internet is an infrastructure, it's computers that - well - compute, a lot like streets don't travel, it's cars that do.

It's all about how you choose to use it.

If you do nothing but sit and play games, it's pretty much the same thing as sitting in front of your xbox doing the same thing.

If you choose to read up, learn things, talk to friends, and play games though, that's an example of using it well.

You can get a lot out of it, if you so choose.

It's all about how you use it, which hopefully, is for more than just games and pr0n, lol.

Well, not quite. Everything "on" the Internet is stored on computers or servers (which are pretty much just huge hard drives). The 'highways' are just telephone lines; no huge invention there. The Internet is more of an idea than a physical invention.

Well, it depends on how smart you are. Seriously, I've met people who typed their credit card details to one of the ads saying: "YOU ARE 99999999999th visitor you win 64156456164 bucks!".

So you're saying that (using Dani's analogy) the "garage" is better than the car? blink.gif

Is better than this?

What's the car? An electron?

The internet... well... it just is, really. You can use it for a lot of stuff.
There's a lot of good information around that can help spread culture and knowledge, take for instance project gutenberg, but then, it's also the place to share child porn. It really does depend on who uses it.
Shpendi
The internet is a good place. But some people exploit it and use it for bad things.

Why should anything be physical to have any kind of significance? huh.gif
Mohorak
I just don't think the Internet was that big of an invention. After personal computers were made, the Internet was just a matter of time. But computers are amazing in their complexity; the Internet is not, because all it is is computers connected by conductors.

The internet is fun and useful.
More people use the Internet for fun/work rather than committing crimes.

Computers and electronics overall are a far greater achievement than the internet.

And yeah, it was going to happen. In the 1970s, there were already plans to set up a US Military "internet" called ARPANET.
