So here's the deal...

1. Monitor shuts off.
2. Sound is still going as normal for about 10 seconds.
3. Sound glitches (looping).
4. (Windows, L, Enter) doesn't work to log off, I am assuming the computer crashes.

I tried dusting out the computer and monitored it for a while to get symptoms of the CPU (usually overheats until I dust it out). The computer still crashes when the CPU is at ~50% load and the temperature at about 55-60ºC. Drivers are up-to-date, disk drives have been de-fragmented within a month. Tried fastening the DIMM cards (they're not ECC by the way). Never had issues before though with the memory.

Only been happening today and now I am lost as to the cause. Video card is fairly new, I don't think that could be the problem. Tried switching the VGA plug-in and no luck.

I'll report back if it happens yet again.

Power Supply?

I was thinking the power supply, too, but would that cause those symptoms? pfft.gif And the sound is also kinda funky.

When the screen is shutting off, is it the monitor itself turning off or just no picture.

The monitor itself would just power off. It hasn't happened at all today yet, so I am even more confused.

Exactly what my computer likes to do.
Never found a solution, I've always just dealt with it.

60C is quite high for 50%... is it a laptop?

It's a desktop, as he said he switched around the monitor cables.

Are they on an extension cable? I can think of very few reasons something with the PC would in any way effect the monitor... fuse box?
