Is it possible to play Bluray movies with actual bluray quality on your pc? If so what client do you use because I have VLC although the quality looks great I doubt its bluray

Bluray just allows a larger resolution and a less compressed video.

If you have a 1920x1080 monitor or larger, you can play DVDs in full screen, but they'll look lower quality because they're being stretched. With bluray, the resolution of the video is higher, 1080p, so you can watch it in full screen without it being stretched, creating a better picture.

That's a picture of the new 27" iMac 30" Cinema Display (resolution 2560x1600). Each of those videos is 1080p. Since the screen is so large and high resolution, you can actually fit two on the screen at once. If you put one on and made it full screen, it would get stretched and lose quality.

Anyways, yes I think VLC can play bluray videos. You just need a bluray reader.

Wouldn't you need an HDMI Output as well?

Nah, DVI seems like it should work.

Could you explain how 1080p is a higher resolution that 1920x1080? AFAIK, 1080i is 1920x1080 interlaced, meaning every other frame refreshes each cycle, and 1080p is 1920x1080 progressive, which...Refreshes all pixels at once? Not sure on that one, but I'm almost positive that 1920x1080 = 1080p/1080i.

Both are the exact same resolution, but 1080p is superior to 1080i when it comes to refreshing. You can sometimes see the transition between images in 1080i and this never happens in 1080p.

1080p is just the layman's term for 1920x1080. And yea i is for interlaced and p is for progressive scan.

um x264 (matroska) = the encoding standard for bluray. just an fyi. also, don't use VLC for MATROSKA! Use MPC! MPC has the best playback for Matroska currently, and VLC has lagged for it. Mostly each x264 will be around 6GB-12GB, and the DTS audio probably is AC3. (if you download i guess)

and yes you can of course you can play them, just how you're going to watch them will be quite weird.
