Full Version: The Grand Exchange- Good Or Bad

When Jagex updated Runescape to put in the Grand Exchange it seemed like a good thing. But now, instead of making money training skills like cooking and herblore, you lose masses because of the grand exchange. The GE has completely upturned the prices (amulets of fury are 6,000,000gp), which makes me think it might've been better if it had never been made. What do you think?

I find it good to not have to take 3 hours+ buying several quest items, or trying to get in to Falador world 2, where you spend even more hours typing the same thing.

I was against the grand exchange from the beginning. I knew it would be a mistake. I was a big time merchanter. Before it came out I pretty much converted everything into gold. I've always thought it was a mistake. It never took hours for me to find anything, with knowing the right people and the right amount of money, I was able to get anything. Also I think prices were already well regulated by the free market.

I like the G.E. saves a lot of time and keeps me from getting low balled by merchanters.

I do miss the player to player interaction but it is a small loss.

BTW: Furies are 6m because of the shop update making tokkul worth the same as a coin (before the ratio use to be like 3 : 1 or somthing like that)

Over the 7 or so years I have played Runescape Jagex has done tons of thing many people including myself dont like, and very rarely do they change it, but everything we have now is due to something jagex did in the past so really im not to angry about it, The GE has bad and good thing about it but then again most things do, guess we just have to wait and see what the future holds.

Without grand exchange, newer players would be unsure how to make money.

I enjoy this way much better, but now you can play this game without communicating which is no fun and don't get to meet alot of new friends which was really funny and how i meet most of my friends. I would like it though if like there was a way to like have us control the prices without the caps and such and not have runescape management control it. You can say it goes up but runescape management can control if it starts to fall or not, not us.

I would never have got 99 magic in f2p without the ge happy.gif I make more money from merchanting than I did before the GE. And also Im happy not to have to wait...and type and wait to get one item. The GE also it doesnt allow bubble markets to form too easily, which is a good thing. The main benfit really though is the easy acquisition (spelling?) of skilling materials.
Rush
I did not like it, when it first came out.

The Grand Exchange, and removal of the "Old Wilderness" are really the two reasons, that I started to become extremely inactive. I still play rarely, but I appreciate the Grand Exchange now.

I can't imagine being without the GE, without it I would not be able to get decent equipment without standing around saying, "Looking for Rune Item!" and I certainly don't have the patience for that so I would have to train up my skills to that point, I would not have the patience for that so I would either quit runescape or use nothing except steel equipment. And with the way stores give you less money the more you sell, there would be no practical way to get rid of all the junk one acquires while skilling without standing around going , "Selling worthless junk!" and hoping a member who has more uses for junk then a free player is nearby.

So without the GE Runescape would really suck for me.

The G.E. is only a meduim for the rising prices. The people to blame are 76/26kers and merchanting clans.
Superkid711
The grand exchange is much more convenient. I hated doing all that typing whenever I needed to buy something.

And the cash drops in pvp. And that's the only one that can be stopped with certainty.

I hate how things are going up by a lot and that it can take forever to buy or sell something

Although the merchant clans really **** me off making me not able or willing to buy certain things it has sped up my characters progress imensely, I would probably be at least 20 levels lower in every skill and have about 100 quest points less if it wasn't for the GE

like cooking

WHAT?!

You still can make money through herblore, just get the ingredients yourself.

Anyway, the GE has been an enormously great update for me. I was fed up of sitting around in Varrock west bank or Seer's bank getting CTS while advertising something worth 5k.

A few days after the GE came out, I sold tons of things in my bank that I couldn't sell before, and I broke the 1m cash mark for the first time. Also, the GE has left me more time to do things. Items buying instantly saves me an hour or two with skilling or Slayer or making MORE MONEY.

Morte
There is both good and bad. You don't need to world hop anymore to merchant things, but then again, if everyone can do it, then you don't make as much money.
Sleepy
I liked selling in person. It let those who were strong salesmen make more money.

BUT it was part of the ways that killed RWTs and made it easier to get cheap items faster and with less effort.

So ya, I love the ge smile.gif
Big Tree
Love it now, wasn't sure about it when it came out.

I don't know where I'd be with out it, made trading a heck of a lot easier.

GE isn't the 'reason' that prices go up or down.

Doesn't it go off supply and demand?

slanty.gif Idk.

So yeah, I like it.
marvman3
RuneScape's economy was built on false supply (macroers) and when they were removed, prices shot up. Jagex's communist ways of manipulating market prices don't help either, but it is a more realistic economy
Volcomed
I don't like it. I'd rather trade player to player slanty.gif
Mutanic Chan
The advantages:
-Easy to find someone selling an uncommon item you want (example: Saradomin stuff)
-Not wasting time in banks trying to sell an item
-Makes a center where people can trade

The disadvantages:
-Inflation, price changes, etc.
-Merchant clans (can tell lies and make you lose money 50% of time)
-Extreme price drops when it came out (Dragon med-helm went from 600k to 100k when it came out I think)
-Trading button is almost useless
-Noobs are becoming rich!
-Old fashioned trading is killed crying.gif

So yeah, I hate the Grand Exchange so much. Especially of my last reason is why I hate it so much.
The worst updates of all time...
Klaus
I don't meet as many people this way- but my offers can be updated while I'm offline- so overall I think its a good thing.
Goggie
Hated it at first, but it's worth having.
