Full Version: Thinking About Switching Back To Xp

Recently, I have been pondering whether or not to switch back to XP. Considering that most games are just DX10 now, and not many DX11 games will become of interest in a few years. The thing about 7 which annoys me it's not skinnable as of yet, and I want that.

Is there skins for 7, i.e. hack at the uxtheme.dll?
redmonke
The next update for VistaGlazz, IIRC, will allow you to hack 7's uxtheme.

It has many skins, and I don't use any other 3ed party uxtheme.dll(s) because they slow my computer to snail mail.

Give it some time. It came out like a day ago.

I wouldn't move for a couple of updates though.

I've used this with the 7 RC and it works quite well. I don't know why you'd want to use a 3rd party skin though - I think the default 7 one is great, but meh tongue.gif

Do you even have a DX11 graphics card?

EDIT: go back to XP. i definitely prefer it over 7.

what kind of computer are you using? ir you're using a mac, i would stay with it because it protects an infinite amount of viruses that even norton doesn't protect.

Are you being serious? mellow.gif

I'd just stick with windows 7. Give it some time and it'll sink in.

Vista was miles ahead of XP. 7 is a step forward from Vista.

+1. XP is outdated and seriously lacking in features when compared with 7. I doubt you've actually used Windows 7 because every Windows user I've known who has tried it has been very pleased with it, there is very little about it to dislike, and also because you seem to think that a Mac is a security product pfft.gif

The main reason people want to use XP is resource usage, and the better solution to that problem will be to dual boot 7 and some Linux distro.
Stobbo
I still use XP and see no reason to change. Is Windows 7 any better at browsing the internet? That's what I mostly use the computer for, and Windows 7 offers me no advantage.

When you actually consider what you use your computer for, the answer will be obvious. If you want flashy bells and whistles then maybe Windows 7 is good, but I would suggest that for most people Winodws XP is more the suffice.
Caboose
If all you do is browse the internet then again, Linux is a better option. No slower (usually even faster) at basic tasks than XP and has the upside of not being 7 years old.

I wont change completely even if i bought new computer.
Windows XP is the newest and alone with running Midtown Madness 2 and all those good old classics from Win 9x sytems. (Aww... miss those times, when i was just another kid, but somehow i expanded my knowledge once, and got hung up in it.)
I have a very deep question about Windows 7: Is it a DOS emulator similar to the one in Windows XP?
Or, is it any DOS emulation built into the Windows XP emulator?
I hope they do have that, or else its a big let-down. (DOS4evr tongue.gif DOS is useful)

Even though i browse net alot, i need XP. I like it, its no resource hog and doesnt have UAC like in Vista.
I dislike userfriendlyness.. tongue.gif

To be fair, UAC is beneficial to security so it's not all bad, and they've made it less irritating in Windows 7 biggrin.gif

Btw what I meant about the XP thing was if you had Windows 7 anyway, I don't see the point in going back to XP. I fully understand why some XP users don't want to upgrade, but if you have a copy of Windows 7 why downgrade to an inferior OS?

EDIT: But yeah, Linux would also be a good solution if you're looking for good customisation options. (There Caboose, I added it! tongue.gif)

Kind of.. but remember there is possibility to mount another harddrive into another computer. rolleyes.gif
Thats what i would do when getting a new computer, so that i can do what i do now, but also have Windows 7 there if i need something else for something else. (The need for GPU+CPU cooperation to get more power, for example.)
Hmm.. alot of work is done in Win7 if you think over it and look at my feeds. (Subscribed to the Windows 7 feed this spring, now i have over 200 feeds about Windows 7.. laugh.gif

Also, seems like Vista is dumped in the trash can, i only saw Windows 7 computers in the newspaper today.

Yes Windows XP is ok for most purposes. It runs good even on a Celeron Computer.
Caboose
That comment really doesn't help identify the level of spec you're talking about... which Celeron? An E3300? That's basically an E6600 with less cache, which is a very capable processor. Or a Celeron D? Besides, the processor is only one part of the system, it's not the be all and end all of performance.
