Merchanting clans are a result of a less than savory trade update from Jagex to fix various problems.
Anyway, you'd be either equally or even more screwed with a static price.

With a static price the economy would be flooded.
Anyway, you need to pay more attention in English class.

Actually, his grammar is decent. He needs to work harder on his economics classes.
Static prices are only good for certain items.
Static prices will either make items in the G.E. sit there forever, or have a zero stock all the time.

I would definitly perfer locked in prices....I think all you people who want to make a easy gp off of price increase need to go and make some hard earned gp....

You, sir, also need to learn economics. The Exchange does not have an infinite amount of items, and this would easily be bypassed with junk trades.

Prices to never rise? No! A whole bunch of merchanters would be mad because they wouldn't be making a lot of money. Sure they would make some, but as much as they normally would've.

It would certainly become a consumer market.
Which won't make the sellers very happy.

If prices would never go up, that would mean that eventually:
- ___Bandos' Godswords______ would be 1gp each.
- All Your hard work, no matter what You do, would eventually only be worth 1gp.
- Someone who has a grudge against __dragon chainmail__________
would try to flood the market with them, in order to bring the price down to 1gp.
Bad move. This idea would render the grand exchange useless.

Locked prices? Controlled economy? A budding communist here

And that doesnt really work. But I do agree merch clans are problematic and some sort of limit needs to be placed. I did have a theory on how to tackle this but wasnt acceptable to most.

You don't see it often, but Jagex
has actually manipulated some prices before. Whenever an item is getting out of hand they'll nerf it or it eventually dies down within a week or two. It's the tendency of the economy, although now we're experiencing inflation due to eping, which as you can see has been fixed already!

no offense, but dumb idea. this means that some little lvl 3 could go cut down a normal tree, sell it, and buy a santa or something. unless the prices freeze at a certain amount, in which case, is still dumb.

Static prices would make Rsconomy=more fail.
Although for things like shards, we have static already.

Maybe if they were to lock the price and still give them some flexibility it would work out.

Compare Runescape grand exchange with the real life stock exchange (Which is quite an accurate comparison) and work out why your logic is flawed.

without merch clans the economy would be TOTALLY messed up, things would probably be more expensive. They keep a regular flow of some items. Ive worked with some clans and the steps to go through choosing items does the best to find a liquid item, that has demand but not too much so it will drastically affect the game.
The prices of items like GWD armour, godswords, whips and other high levelled items is due to the rate of inflation, not merch clans manipping everything. In my opinion, merch clans are good, theyve made players who had no money into millionaires and given them a chance to enjoy RuneScape without having to constantly worry about money making

Nice contradiction you've got there.
You can't have a static and dynamic price at the same time.

The way RS has it right now is awesome.
Other games, people set the prices for things that they want to sell. Say something is worth about 200M, but there is only one person selling it at that time. So you search for HOURS even DAYS and only find that one person selling it for 600M, guess what? You have to pay 400M more then what you should have to.
I love the GE and the way it runs. You can make money off of it, by actually playing the market. Not just seeing some noob selling something for REALLY low then merchanting it for a week at a REALLY high price until someone stupid buys it.
