OK, I just bought a Acer Aspire Windows 7 AMD Athlon 64-bit laptop. Yeah, I gave up on that other one I was trying to fix... Anyway, this works perfectly connected directly to my DSL modem (I'm posting this through that right now), but it won't connect through the router. It's an old router (Linksys BEFSR41 ver. 2 wired router), but it works perfectly with the family Vista. Windows 7 isn't that different from Vista, so I would think it would work on this too.

So, are there some drivers I'm supposed to be installing here or what? It's kind of annoying having only one computer on the internet at a time.

I did post this the Linksys support forum, but I'm not getting an answer fast enough, so I'm posting it here in hopes of figuring this out faster.

Thanks in advance.

The drivers will be for the adapter, have you installed the Vista one's? You're right in thinking that they're similar enough OSes for most drivers to work. If so, check the manufacturers website to see if they have any instructions.

I don't remember ever installing any drivers on the Vista to get it to work... I know none came with the router (I got it used...), though I may have got some off the internet and don't remember. I'll Google for drivers again and see if I can find something. Do you know of where I would go to find if I did install drivers on the Vista or not? Maybe I could use a filename to help me find something...

Is it a wireless router? If so the adapter will definitely have required drivers.

No, it's not wireless. I'll be getting a wireless router, but I'm not sure when and until then I really want both computers on the internet anyway.

What is the router?

A Linksys Etherfast Cable / DSL Router. Model BEFSR41 ver. 2

EDIT: I got it working about 10 minutes ago, but it was weird... I had to put our shortest cable between the laptop and the router and the other two from router to modem and from Vista to router. The problem wasn't fautly cables, but just where each cable was. It makes absolutely no sense to me, and believe me, computers usually don't surprise me. Meh, it works though, so who cares right?

Thanks for the help anyway.
