By 234%... Who the heck could have seen this one coming? [/sarcasm]
SourceNot to mention all the people who get to wait for their manufacturers to ship their free upgrades.
Got Windows 7 yet? I don't, and sincerely wish that I do.

Since I built my desktop and ordered my Vista OEM, it was shipped straight from Microsoft on launch day, arrived 3 days later. Just one more reason building your computer is one of the best tech decisions you can make.

I'm not surprised. I just bought a laptop with Windows 7 on it, and I have to say I really like it. Vista was great, exciting, but the annoyances ruined the experience after the first couple days. Sure, Vista is a heck of a lot better than XP, but it was still annoying.
Windows 7 isn't as different from Vista as I would have expected for a new operating system, but every annoyance I had with Vista is gone. It's been 4 days, and I'm still having fun with this one.
There are also other reasons. A lot more advertising for Windows 7 than Vista (few of my friends even knew what Vista was when it came out), people are less wary of bugs because it's built on top of Vista instead of rebuilt just about from scratch, etc.

And 7 was hyped up like crazy. Tbh I can't even remember the Vista launch.

I honestly love Win7 I just built a computer a about a month ago. I ordered my upgrade to Win7 Ultimate 64 bit with my free upgrade coupon and I have to say I doubt i'll ever regret ordering it.
But in defense of Vista I think there are always a few bugs with the release of a new OS maybe Vista just got screwed over with them in the beginning but in the days leading up to the release of 7 I had not a single complaint about it. and I had been using Vista for a few months.

Wow I can't believe that. That's sooooo amazing. Who'd ever thought that would happen?
Windows Vista sucked ass sooo much, sooo much that even people that had never tried it thought it was terrible. Windows 7 showed Vista the real game

Not the launch, but i remember the pre launch hype. It was nothing like what Microsoft made it out to be.

Two points:
1) Without Vista's success, Windows 7 would neither exist nor have all the features and overhauls. It's one thing to add a few security features and a new GUI, but it's entirely different to rewrite the majority of the OS.
2) They're not looking at total sales; they're looking at units shipped. So while it may be 2.3x more units, the market's also grown a bit in the past few years. If they're following Vista's release week/month/quarter sales and comparing them to Windows 7's release week/motnh/quarter's sales, then point 1 should be reiterated and also XP's (among other Windows OS's) initial failures should be mentioned.

Got Windows 7 Pro free from University. Thanks
It is amazing, but tbh it is not that much different from Vista. It definitely has a nicer "feel" to it, but you can customize Vista and the difference are merely cosmetic.

I see what you're saying, for example the Start Menu hasn't changed much apart from the addition of jump lists, but a lot of changes have been made beneath the UI so I don't think it's fair to say it's just cosmetic
