I'm considering saving up for guthans.  I already have about 3M so it wouldnt be that hard to get 1M more.

If I use a different set of amour/wep for combat and only use the spec, would guthans degrade at all?  And if so how long would it take?

I bought Guthan's last night, its really good. If you have a 60+ smithing level its worth it, because its alot cheaper to fix on an armour stand in a POH. I am selling my Guthan's to buy Verac's I think, it hits harder, but Guthan's ability is ftw.

Yes, every time it's used in combat it degrades. It will take a lot longer to degrade completely to 0 though as you said, it shouldn't really deplete the amount of money you have and I'm guessing you'd have to repair it every 2 weeks or so.

K how do you fix it yourself, and do you need your own poh armour stand thing or whatever or can you use someone elses.

How much does it cost to have it repaired, and who must you talk to to get it done?

Take a look here for that information. And you'll need an armour stand in your workshop to repair Barrows yourself (requires 55 Construction or somebody else's).

I can't remeber the price but it is cheap (under 200k) and to repair it talk to Bob in Lumbridge.

"Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of themself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, 'If I Die, You are Forgiven, If I Live, I Will Kill You.' Such is the Rule of Honour"

There is no "spec" when you equip the weapon, it is a random occurrence.
If you talk to Bob in Lumbridge, it costs about 330k to repair. If you have 99 smithing, and you use the boost on the skill cape, it will only cost half of that.
You need to have 55 construction before you can repair it your self though.
The time it takes for a Barrows item to degrade fully is a solid 15 hours in combat, whether it is the whole set, or just one piece of it.
