I bought Guthans Platebody.  I will eventually get the whole set by training slayer and cashing in the drops.  I have a couple of questions about Guthans though.  Should I use it when I am slaying for the def bonuses or should I stick with my Rune Plate so the Guthans doesn't degrade.  Also when I have the full set how often does the special happen.  I heard it doesn't happen everytime you inflict damage.  Just wondering how often you will heal using the full set effect.

I think that you get healed whatever you hit.

if you want defence with a bigger price tag, buy torags body and sell your guthans untill you have the full set. guthan is only useful with whole set, as torags has better defence and the spear hits bad.

EDIT: if you think the extra defence is not worth it, keep the rune plate untill you have full guthans

I knew it degrades even without the full set.  I was wondering if it is worth using for just the def bonuses for my slayer tasks until i save enough for the full set.  But you did answer my question about the special so thank you very much.

No, Torags is far better for just defence bonuses.

Guthans should only be used for healing.

i think you asking this...

use your rune plate....wait till you get the full guthans set and use it for only healing then (keeping useing rune plate)

it doesnt heal every time...its pretty random tho...so dont use it if you really need to heal..i switch to guthans when im about 35-40 hp

Thank you for all the replys.  I guess i will have to repair my Guthans that has degraded due to a couple of slayer tasks I used it on.  I will then sell to the GE and buy Torags for the def bonus.  Save up for full Guthans and use my Torags Plate when I am not trying to heal with Guthans.  

When I get the full Guthans set should I keep the Skirt on while training with my Torags plate for the def or is Rune legs just as good?

the rune isnt as good def as any of the barrows are...but i use it as my main amour because its cheap and doesnt degrade...the torags def bonus won't save you enough food to cover the cost of repairs

Guthan's, Dharok's, and Torag's bodies all have the exact defense bonus against stab, slash, crush, and magic.  Against range, Guthan's is a little better than Torag's.  There is no reason to switch from Guthan's plate to Torag's.
