I'm not sure if there are any threads about this, I haven't found any so I thought I'lld go ahead..
This thread will help you speed up runescape.

1. If you have a laptop make sure your wireless adapter's driver is up to date.
2. Don't have loads of windows open at once.
3. If your pc is laggy keep the detail to standard.
4. Put your public chat on hide.
5. Go to a quieter place
6. Download the offical runescape client
6a. Open up Task manager, (ctrl + alt +del or shft + ctl + esc on some pcs) click on processes then find the one called runescape.exe or runescapecli.exe then right click and set priority as high.
7. Use a world that's near your location

I hope you learnt from this thread, if you have any suggestions plz post here.

Nobody should have slow game-play unless they have a 10 year old computer or dial-up.

We have 4 computers other than mine who must stay on the internet at all costs, and still I don't lag.
So it's also a bit of your computer. :x

Lag is internet. Jerkeyness is computer.
You'll probably have an insanely high broadband. OR siblings who don't download films and music every day, every hour, every minute..

Wait.. what? I have an eleven year old computer.

The only real problem I have is that I keep disconnecting and reconnecting to the internet. It's quite painful.

a few times every minute the game freezes for about a second or less i dont really time it
at the moment its not a problem but if i want to do jad or something im going to need to figure out how to fix it
i have an extremely fast internet connection(for the country im in)and a 1 year old computer that is not reaching its max capacity at any time but it still freezes and i dont know whats wrong
it does it in standard and in HD
iv tried everything from turning off my firewall and anti virus to changing to a new isp and faster connection i even got this computer because i thought it might be because because my computer was 6 years old

and of course this new computer has vista so it comes with even more problems including java crashing, my graphics card crashing to the computer automatically restarting the computer because i refuse to oh and the shockwave errors

but the main problem is the slight freezes in the game and one last thing it happens no matter what server im on

and this is the only game it happens on for instance i can play starcraft and it will run perfectly without any freezing even for half a second
for a game made so anyone can play it runescape can have an rather large number of things go wrong that whenever there is a problem with runescape you can guarantee the troubleshooter wont help it only gives answers that a 3 year old would know
update drivers update java update computer seriously why is nothing helping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recommend not doing 6a unless you're relatively sure what you're doing.  You could, at worst, crash your computer and have to restart it.  It does work to speed up RuneScape, but it takes priority away from other things that your computer may need to run.  It's a good idea, but...it's not really a good idea...

The rest of them are pretty obvious solutions.  I would list something that most people don't know, such as turning anti-aliasing down or off before the other settings.  Antialiasing, in effect, slightly blurs the edges of the 3D meshes, making them smoother and not so pixeled.  But to do this, it has to render the picture 4x as wide and 4x as tall (16x the number of pixels) or 2x as wide and tall, depending on how you have this set.  Drawing 16x the pixels takes, quite literally, 16x as long.  Based on the programming, which is too complicated to explain here, RuneScape doesn't allow your computer to display too many frames too fast, so it may actually be slowing the game down a bit with this setting off, so you may not exactly see a 16x increase in framerate.  The second setting you should turn down, but only in places where a lot of people just stand still, such as the grand exchange, is the Idle Animations.  Turning this off in the Grand Exchange has literally doubled my frame rate quite often.  But it won't help any in some place like Pest Control, because nobody is just standing still...or at least they'd better not be.

Maybe I should start a guide for reducing lag/jerkiness...

Yes, yes, now start boasting about how high-tech your PC is.... and do it at all costs

I have had wifi for the most of my RS career and have almost never experienced lag.

umm...my laptop just came out a year ago and i got it 6 months ago. it doesnt have to be "10 years old" oviously cause my comp was in slow motion when i played runescape but the downloadable client helps . also, i know many more people with this problem (you wouldnt belive how many threads there are on the offical runescape forums). thats actually why them put in the downloadable client. do some research before you post.

A good solution is to get a new graphics card. It worked for me.
