Attack increases your chance to hit and the more hits you do the higher the chance you have to max. For example (Incorrect numbers. Just an example) let's say at 50 attack your max is 20. Now, you make a hit with damage every 6/10. If you max every 24 hits that takes a total of 40 for one max. Now if you have 60 attack and hit every 8/10 and it takes 24 to max so you're doing around 30 hits to max. So in a way, yes, but how high your max hit is, is determined by your strength level.

Well, yeah you already got the answer

Attack: Increases chance to hit
Strength: Increases how high you can hit
Defence: Increases your ability to "block" hits from your opponent. (Lower the damage.)

I would just like to add that defence does not lower damage, it only increase's the chance of them hitting a zero on you.

What you guys are saying is right, but wrong too. As it does increase the chance of you maxing, just doesn't increase what your max hit is. Also, yes i know you guys said that basically, but you also said that no attack doesn't then explained how to does

Attack will determine your accuracy when fighting and will increase your consistency when hitting opponents.
Couldn't find anything more elaborate in the guide.
Technically speaking, it does increases your chances to hit higher by reducing your chances to miss (0-hit), but I can't assure that it improves the chances to hit higher. You sometimes hit very high when fighting monsters you rarely hit (like GWD bosses for example), and your attack has little to add in those cases.

A common misconception here. Attack increases the chance of a sucessful attack, then strength chooses the max hit, BUT the hit can be a 0 even if it was "successful". Proof of this can be found here. (see the post about the Jad).

This was true before, but may not be the case since the change to life points. It's possible that the "successful 0 hits" before were partial hitpoints rounded down, which now would be 1 to 9 life point hits.

An easy way to see this in action is using the spec on an SGS. Before, sometimes you would hit 0 and get healed, and sometimes you wouldn't get healed. But I haven't hit a 0 and been healed with my SGS since the life points change.
