This really doesn't do anything to tackle botting. I wish they gave more insight into the anti-botting measurements then the random celebratory bonuses.

The bonuses seem a little unnecessary, but I guess it's just for celebrating a "bot nuke", which could mean a lot of things. Sounds interesting, and from someone who is interested in a coding career I will be interested to see exactly what they did after the mushroom cloud clears.

So then botters have an easier time finding out what Jagex did, then working around it and getting their bots working again? L.O.L.

Skeptical. World of Warcraft is ran by a much larger billion dollar company and they still have a botting problem. Time will tell..

It's crazy how confident they seem because of this. I wonder how reliable it'll really be. It'll definitely be an interesting next few months to see if bots recover from whatever blow Jagex is about to do to them.

In the post they talk about reflection, reflection is a feature of the java language it allows the program in question (runescape) to manipulate internal properties of said program. In this case for bots, it allows them to see all of the members of a class which allows these bots to see all the ids of the area they are in, this is what allows most bots to move (the co-ordinate ids) and pick up items (the items ids, like frost bones). If they can disable this then it will stop alot of bots from being able to walk into an area, reflect, see what is around them and move. This will take out alot of bots.

You talk about how WoW a much bigger budget game has a problem, and the bots for that game cannot use this technique as WoW is coded in C++ (however this is not the only language they use eg. the interface is coded in LUA). Im going a bit off topic but what you should take from this is that the reflection feature is not available in C++ (or many other languages) so they cannot use this technique.

This little bit of info from Jamflex really has given me a bit of faith in them again, the fact they are actually targetting reflect bots means they understand that they are the most efficient and widely used bots. If they have actually suceeded Ima have a drink to celebrate cause it really will go down in Runescape History.

I'm using this as a money making opportunity ... that's about it.

I see what you mean, but I really think taking this ability away from them will hamper alot of the bots out there (especially the free kind/mass used for gold farming).

What are you buying to stock up on btw  (for making some moneys)

I'm not a market expert so I won't give any specific examples.... but just some high quantity items that may have a quick spike after the update or in the next 4 days. Result of fear/hope etc.

If they do block reflection it will be a while before bots update.

But, reflection isn't the only way they can work. They can use the client code to grab IDs and co-ords. The only way to stop this is to make it impossible to get the .jar from the runescape site, and even then, someone could still find a way to get it.


I am not saying what jagex will do won't help, it will, it just might not be enough.

Perhaps they are targeting more than just reflection bots, but they didn't want to warn the other guys
