Christmas is in the air, and I'm sure that many of us will be playing RuneScape more often during the holidays. Whilst everyone is having fun this holiday season, it's very important to take precautions to keep your accounts safe. Scamming, phishing and other methods of snagging RuneScape accounts have become common, and everyone needs to be on the lookout to prevent falling victim. Jagex has published a list of steps to help keep your accounts safe, and it's certainly a worthwhile read.

On top of Jagex's list, I don't think that it can be stressed enough to protect your email account(s). After all, what good is a strong password if someone can gain access to your email account and reset your RuneScape password anyways? Your email account's password should be strong, and your recovery/challenge question answers should be unguessable - something only you would know, and something that cannot be obtained online. Both Google and Yahoo! email services now offer a second form of verification required before logging in, which further protects your email account from hijackers. It's very easy to set up, and I recommend anyone who uses these services to take advantage of them.

Also be on the look out for scam-emails. And not just for RuneScape.

to name a few games I've been getting scam-emails about:

World of Warcraft (and/or my battle.net/blizzard account)
league of legends
RuneScape Mod position (They wouldn't simply just email you for the application and ask you sign in now would they? :| )
etc etc.

Actually, it's funny because I got hacked last week without a bank pin. Guy used my account to bot green dragons, I recovered my password and did a malware/virus scan. I log in and have 3 day's worth of green dragon farming in my bank. He gave me 3 combat levels, 500k shared combat exp and about 9m in loot.

Text-message verification for email accounts is awesome. I know for a fact gmail offers it. Not sure about other email services, though. If you can't get texts, you can have an automated call deliver your verification code.

My irl friends said that there are lots of bots at Green Dragons. I was like wut... Im not a mem atm. Who makes all these bots?

Sidenote: My friend went bot killing and died and lost a whip to a clawer.

@Beret-You have a botted account nao. How do you know it was botted though lol? You should dispose of your account.
