Christmas is in the air, and I'm sure that many of us will be playing RuneScape more often during the holidays. Whilst everyone is having fun this holiday season, it's very important to take precautions to keep your accounts safe. Scamming, phishing and other methods of snagging RuneScape accounts have become common, and everyone needs to be on the lookout to prevent falling victim. Jagex has published a
list of steps to help keep your accounts safe, and it's certainly a worthwhile read.
On top of Jagex's list, I don't think that it can be stressed enough to
protect your email account(s). After all, what good is a strong password if someone can gain access to your email account and reset your RuneScape password anyways? Your email account's password should be strong, and your recovery/challenge question answers should be unguessable - something only you would know, and something that cannot be obtained online. Both Google and Yahoo! email services now offer a second form of verification required before logging in, which further protects your email account from hijackers. It's very easy to set up, and I recommend anyone who uses these services to take advantage of them.
Perhaps most important of all, have fun and stay safe this Christmas season!
