King Black Dragon Hunting
Written By Knight Sean
Special Thanks to Bboyjyoung, Jure 7he Kin, Mrcsupertrain, Hero of Sock So, you want to "own" that 3-headed black Dragon do you? Not sure how to? In this guide I will take you through everything you'll need to cause some major Dragon ownage!
First of all, you must have an Anti-Dragon Breath Shield in order to even stand a chance, and it's recommended that you're at least level 65 Combat. You must also be a Member. Your Team To kill the King Black Dragon (KBD), I suggest that you are level 65 or higher and have a team of at least 8 people. If you're over level 80, you'll probably only need 5 people to help. Once you have your team together, it's time to get your equipment. Equipment To kill the KBD, you can use any type of combat you'd like. Melee or Mage is highly suggested because of the fact that you need an Anti DragonBreath Shield, and bows don't allow you to use shields. However, you can use shields with crossbows, and Kharil's Crossbow works great against the KBD, but Ranging techniques will not be discussed in this guide. Wilderness Team Capes are also recommended, to keep track of your team members. This way, you won't accidentally attack them and get skulled. You should also bring Dragon weapons or a Mystic Battlestaff, depending on whether you're a Warrior or Mage. It is highly recommended that 1 team member brings a poisoned Dragon Dagger to attack the KBD with--poisoning it will really help. Warrior - Bring any 1-handed Dragon weapon or an Abyssal Whip, along with your armor. ![]() Mage - Bring any kind of Magic-enhancing Robe and Staff. ![]() This way, should you happen to die, you'll only lose the cape and shield, along with and potions or Runes you are carrying. The cape is cheap (only about 100gp) and you can get another shield from the Duke of Lumbridge. Backpack Now that you have your equipment sorted out, it's time to work out what should be included in your inventory. It's simple. You will need around 2 Antipoison Potions a pack full of Lobsters or better food, and depending on whether you're a Warrior or Mage: Warrior - Also bring a Strength and an Attack Potion. This is optional, but can really help. ![]() Mage - Be sure to bring Runes, as you'll be using them (and more than what's shown below!). ![]() Once your team has everything ready, read up on the KBD-Killing Strategies section. The KBD is a vicious level 276 Dragon that will give you an extremely warm welcome (literally) when you enter. The best thing to do in order to kill it is to circle around it so that the dumb Dragon keeps spinning around trying to attack. Hence, it will attack less! Just go for and all-out assault: attack it, poison it and own it. You can use the Protect From Magic Prayer, but it doesn't help all that much. If you wish, you may substitute an Anti-FireBreath Potion for an Antipoison Potion. This will reduce damage done to you from it's fire attack. And don't forget to have someone poison the KBD, it really helps! The KBD's Attacks The KBD will attack you with 3 different kinds of attacks, aside from it's regular Melee style. Its Ice Blast attack will freeze you in place for several seconds, while its FireBreath will obviously roast you if you don't have an Anti-DragonBreath Shield. It also uses a Poison Blast attack which can poison you (this happens rarely). Now that you've learned how not to be the KBD's dinner, it's time to face him! But first, you need to get through the Wilderness without those crazy PKers getting to you first. The best way to get there is to use the Teleport Lever in East Ardougne which will bring you to the deep Wilderness once it's pulled. But be careful, as an open door often times means that someone has been there and is waiting for a kill in the Wilderness!
Once you are in the Wilderness, be on your guard. If you see and PKers, log out immediately and switch worlds. Don't go near the Axe Hut or the Rune Rocks! Here's a map of the safest route to take: ![]() Be sure to watch out for level 122 Hellhounds. Just put Protect From Melee on and walk past them. ![]() You may also encounter some level 79 Green Dragons. Don't worry about them, as they will take less damage, as long as you have your shield on! ![]() Once you've found the cage-like area, run past the 3 Lesser Demons and climb down the ladder. ![]() Now you will be in a room with level 64 Poison Spiders. Quickly pull the lever in the room before you get poisoned (just drink an AntiPoison potion if you happen to get poisoned). ![]() You will now be in the room with the level 276 KBD. Attack it and own it until it dies, as you shouldn't have much of a problem if you have the proper equipment and a good team. ![]() The King Black Dragon can drop some decent items, including Yew Logs, Left Halves of the Dragon Shield, Dragon Medium Helms and Dragon Spears. Various Rune and Adamantite weapon drops, Dragonstones and Clue Scrolls can also be dropped. It always drops Black Dragonhide and Dragon Bones. |
