Preparation

Map of routes to the quest start point

It is always best to obtain the items you need before starting the quest. This time around you need to find a white apron and a spade. The white apron can be bought from the clothing store in Varrock, or you can obtain the one found hanging on the back wall of Gerrant's Fishy Business in Port Sarim for free.

A spade can be obtained for free from any of the respawn points: in the house just south-west of Falador Park (Real Estate Agent's House), the mine near Rimmington, or the southeast room of Draynor Manor.

The apron and the spade may also be bought from other players, or at the Grand Exchange.

Starting the Quest

To start the quest, talk to Redbeard Frank in Port Sarim. Frank is located on the Northwestern-most end of the Port Sarim docks, just south of the Rusty Anchor Pub.

Tell Redbeard Frank that you are looking for treasure. Redbeard Frank says that he will tell you about some Treasure, but such information comes at a “price”:

Redbeard Frank: I'd like some rum made on Karamja Island.

There is, of course, a "rub" to the whole deal:

redbeard Frank: The Customs Officer has been clampin' down on the export of spirits.

After you agree to get Redbeard Frank some rum in exchange for the information to the Treasure, it is time to head to Karamja. Walk south on the docks in Port Sarim to find three sailors: Captain Tobias, Seaman Lorris, and Seaman Thresnor.

The sailors on the Port Sarim docks

Talk to any one of these sailors to board the ship to Karamja - the fare for the voyage is 30 coins. After the quest, you can use the "pay fare" option.

Karamja Rum

On Karamja, walk west to the Karamja Wines, Spirits and Beers Bar, trade with Zambo and buy one Karamja rum (costs 30 coins).

Buy some Karamja Rum from Zambo

The problem with getting any Karamja Rum off Karamja Island is that, inasmuch as Asgarnia has banned the import of intoxicating spirits, there are Customs Agents waiting at the docks on Karamja. The Customs Agents will search you when you try to leave Karamja Island. If they find you with the rum in your inventory, they will confiscate it.

You cannot teleport off the island with the rum either, because the bottle will break during teleportation. You therefore need to find an alternative way to get the rum off the island.

Get a Job!

Heading back towards the ship you will find the hut of Luthas, the owner of the banana plantation on Karamja.

Talk to Luthas

Talk to Luthas about the Customs Officer:

You: That customs officer is annoying isn't she?

Luthas informs you of something that you will find very interesting:

Luthas: She doesn't even search my export crates any more.

Talk to Luthas again:

You: Could you offer me employment on your plantation?

Luthas will agree to hire you, as his worker, and tells you to put some bananas inside the crate located just outside his hut. Agree to help him.

Travel west from Luthas’s hut and enter the banana plantation behind Luthas’s house. Click on the banana trees to obtain bananas. You need 10 bananas to fill the crate.

Pick a banana

Note: After the quest, you can work for Luthas by filling the crates and get paid for it

With 10 bananas and the rum in your inventory, walk back to the crate outside of Luthas's hut. “Use” the rum with the crate, to hide the rum in the crate. Next, right click on the crate and choose "Fill Crate".

Talk to Luthas and obtain your payment. Ask Luthas where the crate goes, and he will tell you:

Luthas: You wouldn't believe the demand for bananas from Wydin's shop over in Port Sarim.

Rum Retrieval

Upon your return to Port Sarim head West then South from the ship to the Food Store. If you do not already have your white apron on you, now is a good time to grab one from Gerrant's Fishy Business store in Port Sarim:

Take the apron hanging up in Gerrant's fishing shop

Enter the store with your white apron either equipped or in your inventory, and speak to Wydin:

You: Can I get a job here?

Wydin will ask you about your qualifications:

Wydin: Well, you're keen, I'll give you that. Okay, I'll give you a go.

Now that you have been employed by Wydin, and while wearing your white apron, enter the room to the rear of the store and search the crate with the banana on top.

Search the crate with a banana on top

You should find your rum. Take it and go back to Redbeard Frank.

Arrrrrrrr, Treasure!

Talk to Frank and give him the Rum and Frank will tell you about the treasure:

Redbeard Frank: Now a deal's a deal, I'll tell ye about the treasure.

He will give you a key to the treasure, and tell you where it is located:

Redbeard Frank: This be Hector's key. I believe it opens his chest in his old room in the Blue Moon Inn in Varrock.

Blue Moon, You Saw Me Standing Alone...

Go to Varrock. If you enter the city through the South entrance (from the road from Lumbridge), the Blue Moon Inn is on the East side of the street, across from the sword shop.

Outside the Blue Moon Inn

Upstairs in the bar you will find a chest in one of the rooms. Open the chest:

Open the chest

It will give you a clue to the treasure's location.

Visit the city of the White Knights. In the park, Saradomin points to the X which marks the spot.

"X" Marks the Spot

The pirate’s message tells you that the treasure is in the city of the White Knights, which is Falador. Head to Falador and walk to the park, which is located north of the Eastern Bank. You will need a spade. If you have not already obtained the spade, get it now from the respawn point just south-west of Falador Park, in the Real Estate Agent's Office:

Take the Spade

You need to find a statue of Saradomin that points the way.

There are several statues of Saradomin in Falador, but the one you must find is the Saradomin statue in the park. Look at the direction where Saradomin is pointing, which is usually west – this is direction that you should be facing when looking for the X.

On the ground, while facing West, beside the statue of Saradomin, the configuration of the dirt makes an “X”. It may not look like an X if you are facing north.

Dig in the circled area, in front of the statue of Saradomin.

Stand in the center of the X, and dig with your spade.

An angry combat level 4 Gardener will appear, shouting "First moles, now this!", then he attacks you. Kill him, or run out of the park. After killing the Gardener, or running away from him, as the case may be, return to the same spot and dig again to get another chest.

You have completed Pirate's Treasure! Open the chest and claim your reward!

Congratulations, Pirate's Treasure Quest complete!
