Classic Smithing
Smithing can be both a profitable, and helpful skill in RuneScape.
You can make your own armor and weapons; which when sold at the right price
can make you a bundle of cash.

Getting Started
To start smithing objects, you first need to obtain the correct
ores to smelt into bars, by either buying them from other players, or by mining them. Or, you can just buy
bars from other players instead of smelting ores, but this usually costs more.
It's usually a good idea to get all of your ores, then smelt them into bars,
and finally smith them into objects.
Smelting Ores
When you've got all of your ores together, it's time to smelt
them into bars, which you can work with. Just bring the correct
amounts of ores to a furnace, and then use the ore with the furnace. Different
metals need different amounts of coal, and others don't need coal at
all. For smelting ores into bars, you receive some experience, varying with
the metal.

Tips:
- Free-Play Furnaces: Falador, Al Kharid, and just north of Lumbridge.
- Members Furnace: East Ardougne.
- Make sure you watch your fatigue level while smithing. It rises fast,
and you won't get experience for anything made after it reaches 100%.
- There's a 50-50 chance (each time) of getting an iron bar, but it's
based on 'luck.'
Smithing Objects
Now
that you've got some metal bars to work with, you're ready to smith them into
useful items. Buy a hammer from any local General Store, and find an anvil.
Use the bar with the anvil, and a menu will appear, depending on the metal
you are using.
Now, just choose the options for the object you're making,
specifying the type of object, and what to make. If an object requires multiple
bars to be smithed, it will be shown next to it.
Tips
- Free-Play Anvils: Varrock, Dwarven Mines, Doric's Place,
and near the Ice Warrior Cave.
- Members Anvils: Yanille, east of the Fight Arena, Tai Bwo Wannai,
West Ardougne, and the Seer's Village.
- Usually, it's best to smith the best item you can, and sell it for full
price.
