Sal's Realm of RuneScape
Classic Thieving

There are great riches to be found (and stolen) by thieving. There are several things that you can do with the skill, from disarming traps, to pick-pocketing Rogues, and looting the gem stall in Ardougne.

Pick-Pocketing

An easy way to quickly get better at thieving is to steal from the various NPC's around RuneScape. Remember that not all characters in the game can be pick-pocketed from, and you can't steal from other players.

In many cities you will come across Men. They are the first characters you can steal from, so when you find one, right-click him and select to 'pickpocket man.'

  • When successful you will see a message like this: and you will receive gold or other items.
  • When you fail you will get this message: and not receive anything. Your enemy may also attack you.

Picking Locks

The trade of picking locks on doors comes in handy from time to time. Sometimes doors are locked, but there's no key to open them with. To the common person, it's a pain. But, a person skilled in the arts of Thieving - its a cinch.

What lies behind locked doors could be anything from treasures to monsters or other stuff. To see if a door needs to be pick-locked, right-click it and check for the option 'pick lock door.'

At first, you can only pick-lock 1 or 2 doors. As you get better though, you will be able to open many more. Remember that once you pick-lock a door and go inside, you don't need to picklock it again to leave. But, should you decide to go inside again, it will need to be pick-locked again.

Hint: A lock pick is a tool that can help you open doors easier; even if you don't meet the level requirements to open it! Some doors or chests need to be opened with one. They can be stolen from Rogues in the Wilderness.

Disarming Traps

A nasty trick to keep people out of chests (or from going upstairs) is to put a trap on it, so that when triggered, it will cause damage or other bad things. This can be avoided by disarming the trap before you open a chest or walk up stairs.

To search a chest or a staircase for a trap, just right click it and select 'Search for traps.' Once a trap is disarmed, you can climb the stairs or open the chest, without getting any damage. But, traps will reset later on so be careful.

Stealing From Stalls

The stalls of Ardougne are the first things you see as you enter the city. Containing lots of goods like cakes, gems and expensive spices, it's a pot of gold for many thieves of all skill levels.

To steal from a stall, right-click it and select 'steal from ___ stall.' You need to be fast, since only one person can get the item. Remember that if an NPC sees you, they will either attack (guards or heroes) or yell (stall owner) at you. Just wait until they aren't looking, or they are busy fighting or talking.
