Sal's Realm of RuneScape
August 2004 Q&A's (Part 1)

This is the first half of the questions I got during August 2004... the page was getting long so I just split the submissions in half.

Killa Dude

Q: Awesome website by the way, I was wondering what is the most valuable rune?

A: Well for Members, the most valuable (and expensive) Rune would probably be either Blood or Soul, because they are currently the most rare. For free-players, Death Runes are probably the most valuable.

Yes Sir

Q: Sal, I was wondering was there really a time in runeScape when u could pk ppl in the streets? Some guy told me and I played like 2 years ago but I dun ever remember that. Did u play back then? An if u did, were u a person that killed other ppl? O and if u played do u wish those times would come back?

A: Yes, people could actually kill each other in the streets, much like the Wilderness now. There were 2 kinds of people: PKers, who could attack other PKers any time, and Non-PKers, who couldn't attack or be attacked by others. You could switch between being a Pker and Non-Pker 3 times. I played awhile before the entire system was taken out, and the Wilderness was put into the game, but I never attacked anyone (since I was a non-PKer). As for wanting the PKer system back... I like the game the way it is right now.

Q: what is the price of black addy or rune trimmed armor if I go to buy it I don't want people to rip me off.

A: Black trimmed armor usually sells for around 400k or more, Addy trimmed is about 600-800k. I'm not absolutely sure about Rune trimmed prices yet, but people have been selling full sets for a million gp+.

Archelda

Q: Hi! Great site by the way. My question is: Is there anywhere to mine silver besides the Scorpion Pit? You know the big mining area between Varrok and Al Kharid. I'm a high enough mining lvl for silver but the scorpions are really annoying!

A: Those scorpions can be quite annoying sometimes! Anyhow, there's a mine just southwest of Varrock that has Silver, and if you have at least 40 Crafting you can mine lots of silver from the Crafting Guild. There's also a few Silver rocks in the Edgeville Mine, but they're guarded by skeletons.

Killmeonsite

Q: whats the fastest way to get my magic lvl up?

A: I would say that they best way to level your magic up would be to use your second strongest spell that you can use. This way you'll miss less and you won't waste as many Runes. If Runes aren't a problem you can use the strongest spell you can. It's also best the stand behind something such as a gate or table while using magic, so that your enemy won't be able to attack you. It's also best to cast magic spells on enemies at about the same combat level as your Magic level, so that you'll hit harder, earning more experience.

Q: Hi, I am think of doing the dragon slayer quest. I am lvl 68, and I'm going to bring rune legs, Addy plate, rune scimitar, and rune med helm, and dragon shield. I plan on using either sharks or swordfish, and strength potions, or a superset, will i had a hard time with Elvarg the dragon?

A: You should definitely be able to kill the Dragon, without a problem. Sharks and Swordfish should be fine, but just make sure you have your Anti-DragonBreath shield equipped, and keep your hits up!

Dark Aqua

Q: I was just wondering whether it is possible to cast high-lvl alch on bank notes. e.g. 100 steel plates.

A: Yes, you can put all of your items that you want to high-alch into Bank Notes and cast the spell, but you must cast it as many times as you have notes. This means if you have 30 notes of Yew Longbows, you need to cast the spell 30 times to high alch them all. That's what I do when I smith lots of steel or Mithril plates: I put them all into bank notes and high alch them to save lots of trips to the bank.

Lolpop

Q: hey Sal I got hacked and I've submitted my questions and all of the other stuff. i was wondering if i know the hacker could I ban him or her?? p.s: nice website for a 1-man job. about my last question......... if the hacker sold any stuff or traded it to their character is there anyway to get it back??? (both questions put together)

A: Well, you could send in a question to Jagex support about the incident and they could possibly do something to help. If you know who did it and you have proof that they took your stuff then Jagex could probably do something, but it's never happened to me so I'm not exactly sure.

Q: hello me again I have been fishing and getting caskets what is the best thing u have eva got in a casket?

A: I haven't been fishing for a long time now, and my fishing skill's been getting rusty. But there was one time when I got an uncut diamond in a Casket, which isn't much but it beats getting a Mackerel! ;)

Q: Hello Sal I have been killing black dragons for 3 days now and i am running out of food too quickly can u suggest another way to keep lots of food?

A: The best way to keeps lots of food would be to buy it from a seller that will sell you food for a low price. It takes a long time to catch huge amounts of fish on your own, and you can use some of the loot you get from dragons to pay for it.

Spooksniper

Q: What is a cat? Is this on RSC? Either way, where do I get one?

A: A cat is a pet that you can take care of in RuneScape. It follows you around and while it's growing you can feed it and give it attention. It's the reward you get from doing Gertrude's Cat quest, which is Members-Only, and it's for both RuneScape and RSC, although the cat doesn't follow you around in RSC.

Joshpow

Q: where is the best place to mine for exp when ur lvl 55?

A: The best place to mine for experience is probably the Al Kharid mine, since Iron respawns fairly fast.

Newbie Mage

Q: I am a mage that is lv 9 and i have 3 def and 12 magic and 11 hp. I wonder why my def and hitpoints is so low because i just started on this mage account and i am using defensive with the spell. It doesn't match with the calculator at rune tips because they show it as combat lv 5 while I am already lv 9...hope u can give me an answer on dat...thx

A: The reason you have a high combat level is probably because your magic level is the highest of all your combat skills, causing your combat level to increase. You need to train your defense, strength or attack to be higher than your magic level so that your combat level will stay lower. You should also be wielding a staff of some sort, fighting on defensive.

Pat Louden

Q: How do you make screenshots. I would like to learn how to do them. Thanks Plz Answer.

A: There's a guide to taking screenshots in the Tips & Tricks section of the site, along with other helpful things for the game.

The_Bomb78

Q:  I am currently lvl 49. I have addy 2h addy, addy platebody, and steel legs. my def is 40,attack is 40,and my strength is 41. could I beat dragon slayer quest?

A: Actually, it may be difficult to kill him at your level. He's around level 86, and he's pretty tough. I would recommend that you be at least level 60 before killing him, and that you bring lots of food, along with an Anti-DragonBreath shield.

Gingersinner

Q: hi i saw someone ranging and I noticed that the arrows were coming back to them straight after hitting the monster- how is this done and do you have to be a certain lvl to do it? BY THE WAY I THINK THIS SITE ROCKS

A: I haven't ever heard of that happening while Ranging. Arrows always fall on the ground near your enemy, and that's why you need to hurry and pick them up before they disappear.

That Guy Bit Me AGAIN!

Q: what is the quickest way the get chaos runes I'm trying to raise my magic lvl and the most advanced thing I can use is a water bolt and I have no chaos runes wat do u suggest I do?

A: There's a Wilderness respawn of Chaos runes (3 respawns, actually) north of the Ruins, around level 40 in the grassy part. If you can make it there, you can grab the respawns and then switch worlds to get another set.

Snipesnipe

Q: do u think there will be something in the near future planned for and RS3?if so what do u mean by they had a transfer period from rs1 to rs2 cuz i was just starting when they cancelled that. Wouldn't ur rs1 stuff automatically go to rs2 like clothes and stuff

A: Yes, everything for your RuneScape Classic character was put onto your RS2 character when it was finally released in March. they then had a short transfer period where people who wanted to play the classic version could switch everything in their bank account back. After that they had 1 more transfer period for those people who then wanted to play RS2, to switch their items back to RS2.

Zadok 666

Q: where do I get rune plate mail without trading?

A: Rune Plate Mail can be bought from Oziach, the shop owner just outside the west border of Edgeville for 84,500gp. You need to have done the Dragon Slayer quest so that you can buy it from him.

TrickorTreat

Q: Hi, I'm just confused by all teh amulets......like the amulet of power.....does it require any gems and how do u enchant it? I wonder about other ammies too...

A: In order to enchant any amulet (or ring), you need to have crafted one with a gem in it. Depending on the type of amulet or ring, you need to cast the enchant spell from your magic spell list on the item. The crafting guide has all sorts of info about cutting gems and crafting jewelry, and the Enchanting section should now be easier to understand.

Smythy

Q: Is it true that at lvl 21 RuneCrafting u can make air runes times 3 so 1 essence makes 3 airs?

A: Yes, as you get to a higher level of RuneCrafting you can make more runes with a single rune essence. To make triple air runes, you need a level of 21 or 22 (I'm not completely sure yet).

Snipesnipe

Q: Yo, Sal is it true that members are allowed to trim cuz i report people for saying that cuz the last i heard was u had to buy it trimmed from npc's and stuff.
and Jagex never bans them or anything they just put it on record for the future.
and if f2p can wear trimmed armor and weapons where do u buy?
and please can u put an approx price on trimmed armors and weapons please. (street price)

A: No, Member's aren't allowed to trim any kind of armor, but they can get them from completing a Treasure Trail. As far as I know, that's the only way to obtain them. Although, Member's can trade the armor onto the Free-Play world and Free-Players can wear them. The only purpose of these items seems to be to show off your wealth, since they give no extra armor bonuses and it's just like wearing a regular metal plate. As for the values, I'm not completely sure since everyone sells them for different prices.

Sin007

Q: What is the best way to make your cat grow faster? And, how big can they get?

A: The best way to get your cat to the "Overgrown Cat" stage is to feed both milk and fish often, stroke it right after feeding it, and give it a Ball of Wool to play with every so often. You can also have it attack Rats, but it doesn't appear to help make the cat grow up any sooner. You also need to have your cat out walking around with you so that he will grow up. And you should always have an empty space available for him, should he decide to leave and then come back.

Genez

Q: What is a multi-way combat zone (denoted by the mini sword pic at the left bottom of the screen)?

A: A multi-way combat zone is where several people can attack one monster at once. Or, in certain parts of the Wilderness, an entire party of people can attack another person.
