December 2005 - January 2006 Q&A's

All of these Q&A's are from December 2005 through January 2006.

Q: Hey Sal, nice site! I use it for all my runescape needs. I noticed that in some of the pictures you have the platebodies have gloves, the chainmail has sleeves, and the sq. shields have a red ring around them. I have never seen any armor like this, and I was wondering if you could tell me why they look this way?

A: Some of the pictures on the site were posted before the graphics were changed to suit the game better, and they haven't been updated on the site yet because they're just minor changes.

Wy Master
Q: Hi sal! I have a lil' question. In the mining help guide you talk about the powermining. What is it? Can you explain me?

A: Powermining is basically why you mine ores as quickly as possible without banking them (so you drop them instead). Normally it's done using ores like Copper or Iron since they respawn quickly and are easy to obtain. This maximizes the experience you'll gain and decreases the time you'll spend mining.

Q: first of all your site rocks and i go on it everyday, anyway, I got temporarily banned from runescape for 3 days a few months ago, and jagex said in their letter that I got 2 black marks, will the black marks ever go away, or will they stay on my file forever? please answer, and thank you for your time!

A: I don't think that your 'black marks' will ever be removed, so I'd suggest being more careful with your actions in the game.

Q: Hi Sal I've been using this site for help forever and it has relly helped me.
But Anyway, I heard someone mention something about "flipping notes". What does that mean?

A: "Flipping notes" is actually just buying items for less and selling them for more. For instance, you buy several hundred lobsters for, say, 100gp (this is just an example). Then you sell them to someone else for 200gp each, making twice as much for a profit.

Q: hi sal , great site =)
i was just wondering i have been looking through the q and a's pages and you speak a lot about "rune great helmets" are these rune full helmets or something else? please answer
sir winsalot

A: Rune Great Helmets are just the same as saying Full Helmets, although most people call them full helmets.

John
Q: Well first off I would like to comment on your site. Its very good and i use it all the time. Now to my question.
After you beat the lost city quest, can u weild a dragon sword even if ur attack isn't lvl 60?

A: No, you must have at least level 60 attack before you can wield any Dragon weapon, regardless of the quest you finish.

Zinx
Q: ok. So i am a Runescape member Noob and so i have a few questions. First- are snail shells tradable? second- what is more valuable... flax or the string you can make from it? thanks alot.

A: Yes, snail shells are tradeable to other players. I would say that bowstrings are more valuable and can usually be sold for around 100-150gp, since many fletchers will make lots of bows first, and then buy strings to finish them off for lots of xp.

Chessaholic1
Q: Hey Salmoneus. I love your site! I'm on my way to lvl 55 mining and i've been wondering - is powermining against the rules? I've heard people saying it's against the rules, and other people saying it wasn't. I'm pretty sure AUTOmining is illegal, so is it possible that the people accusing powermining are getting it confused with automining? If you right back, thank you in advance.

A: No, powermining isn't against the rules, as long as you're not using a macro or other cheating software (that can get you banned). You're right about automining being illegal in RuneScape though.

Jason
Q: Hey Sal, I was wondering wat it meant to have a skull above ur head? Tyvm! :-)

A: If you have a skull and crossbones over your head, it means that you have attacked another player in the Wilderness. It lasts for about 20 minutes, and during this time if you happen to die, you'll lose all of your items (rather than keeping your best 3 like you normally would).

Robotman42
Q: Great site!
Regarding the Salmoneus Page:
You said that you usually are mining coal and iron, smelting steel bars, smithing steel plates out of them, and then high-alchemizing them. I have done calculations on all the work and profit. I figured that you would have to mine up to 10k coal and 5k iron, but you don't buy it. Then, you have to smelt the bars, taking you 112 trips to the furnace. I even realized that you mined the rune essence and crafted the nature runes yourself, taking you 36 trips to the rune essence mining site and 36 trips to Karamja Island using a tiara, 38 using a talisman (which I find a nutorious place to go to, even on the f2p world when I do my lobster fishing). Now, sorry if that was a bit too much to read, but I simply don't understand this part. How is it that you are able to do all this? I've attempted to mine 3k rune essence for my own usage in runecrafting, but I ended up buying a percentage of it. How is it that you are able to do all this work? What drives you to keep going? Is it routine, the millions of coins that will follow, or is it just that your kind of person has the ability to do such things?

A: I keep going because I find it fun, and it just makes it worthwhile to know that the profit was 100% my own work. It takes a lot of patience to keep at it, mining thousands of ores and smelting them, and then finally alchemizing them, but in the end it's just... fun. :)

Q: i was wondering could Sal's site have like a p2p home world and f2p home world
like to meet da forum mods and may be even sal himself...
plz=)

A: Although it's not official, most forum members (and mods) from here play on world 62 (Freeplay) and 41 (Members) and it's a good way to meet players from the site and forums.

Kara
Q: Hi sal, you have a wonderful site! It's clean and easy to find your way around. I have a question... from time to time I see people with crowns near their name. What's that mean?

A: If you see a player with a crown next to their name, it simply means that they're a moderator in the game. there are 2 kinds:
Player modSilver Crown: this means that the player is a Player Moderator who has the ability to mute other players if they cause trouble, and they have priority support if they send in an abuse report.
Jagex modGold Crown: these are the actual Jagex staff that run the game and make appearances from time to time.

Q: sal! i really need u to answer this one! im begging you, i just wanna know where you repair the brocken staff you get of the iban disciples! iv been looking for ages and i think im going to go crazy!

A: You can have the broken staff repaired by speaking to the wizard near Hemenster. He'll charge you to fix it, but afterwards you'll receive a brand-new (well, almost brand-new!) Staff of Iban.

Joe Lessner
Q: Hey Sal, i was just wondering, in ur pictures of runescape, ther was one with u standing by brimhaven and it was underwater! When did that happen, was that a technical error in rs, or was that part of a special runescape upgrade for a few weeks like holiday events? Please post this because i am very curious!

A: That picture was taken during the beta version of the game, before the Brimhaven area was completed. So, it just showed up as the ocean.

Runescapefan
Q: May you have more than one account?

A: Yes, it's OK if you have multiple accounts, as long as they don't come into contact with each other at any time (that includes drop trading or sharing items).

Vahi Master
Q: How does someone get the special mystic robes like the white and gold or red and black?

A: These Mystic robes can't be bought in stores, and can only be obtained from the loot of certain Slayer monsters. Kurasks, Turoths and Aberrant Specters drop them from time to time.

Masta Cupa
Q: ey Sal, I have a question about the Lost City quest guide. If you give a diamond to the gaurd, you still have to buy the dragon sword/dagger don't you? Or do you have to just give the gaurd a diamond?
P.s. Your site rocks!

A: You need to give the guard a Diamond every time you wish to enter the market, and then you need to buy the sword or dagger with cash.

John
Q: Hey SAL, Anyway, I was on google looking at RS images, when I got to a link where there was a Smithing screen, But it said "What dragon Item do you want to make?", and Pics. of Drag. items were on the screen, Even a kite shild, Darts/Knifes, 2-H's, Swords, and Full helms/Plates, Can you really do this? Even though they're arn't any Swords, Plates, Full helms, Ect.?

A: No, Dragon items aren't smithable in RuneScape, and will most likely never be. It was most likely a fake screenshot that someone made to try and fool other players.

Riman2207
Q: you say tips is diabled, yet people still send maps and new guides daily. How or why?

A: The tips are disabled, but many people submit guides and info using the Forums. This site is maintained mostly by members of the community that are trying to make the site the best it can be, and we encourage everyone to sign up for a FREE account and get active! :-)

Zooloo9000
Q: Sal,your'e awesome!your website rocks!Yeah,by the way,my friend says you can drop dragon items and other people can get them, but I say he's wrong.Who is right? Please answer Sal

A: Yes, if you drop a Dragon Item and wait 60 seconds, it'll appear for everyone else and they'll be able to pick it up. Just about every item (aside from quest items) can be dropped by one person and picked up by another.

Yoprt
Q: hey sal ur web site rules!! but if i run out of mithril seeds where do i get more???

A: If you happen to run out of mithril seeds, you can buy some for a small price at the Legends Guild, as long as you meet the requirements.

Farmer Glg
Q: hey sal, i just became a member to your site recently and its already helped me lots! thx, but anyways, why did guthix's rest potion (or tea) leave RS? i can't find the recipe for it on any of the guides in RS, and when i try to follow the instructions from Sal's Realm, my character just says "i'm not sure wat would happen if i did that" and it doesn't do anything... anyway, if you know anything about this matter, i would be very grateful, thx!
- farmer_glg

A: Guthix's Rest Tea is used in the One Small Favour Quest and can only be made after Sanfew asks you to make some during the quest. After that, you can make it whenever you'd like.

Kenny
Q: Since your probably the smartest person about runescape i wanted to ask something, do you recomend being a member? I have an obsesion of wanting to play Castle Wars, do you like that mini-game???

A: Yes, I definitely recommend being a member. There's a lot more stuff to do, including those fun mini-games (Castle Wars is my favorite, by the way) and all of the interesting quests. There's always something to do when you're a member, and I think it's worth it.

Mr. morte
Q: This may be a stupid question, but is it true, when playing High Detail all the houses have roofs on them? And with low detail it isn't?
I logged in with high detail once and everything was just bigger, but is this just me or does everybody has/had this?

A: Yes, it's like that because low detail is a stripped down version of the high detail game. People with slower computers with less memory and processing power will find it difficult to play on high detail because of the lag, and low detail will work much better. Of course, a lot of the extras (textures, pieces of rubble on the ground, rugs, roofs and other small details) will be left out.

Lostsoul555
Q: SAL!(awsome web by the way) HELP ME! I'VE TRIED AND TRIED BUT CAN'T FIND THE WAY! I've finished the Dragon Slayer Quest but here is the problem: I exited the cave and now im stuck in the island. My friend told me somtin like this happened to him! Where do i go? i travled all over the island and since my mage is only 20 i cant teleport. I'm holding some rare stuff so I dont wanna die here! I've been traveling with this other guy but he's lost to! He told me to come here. Oh yeah if u wanna add me as friend u can: Sadime lvl:51.

A: After you killed Elvarg, you should have been teleported out of the room, and continued south to where there's a 'dead end.' It's actually a secret passage, which can only be discovered from inside. Push the wall and you'll be inside the volcano on Karamja. You can return anytime later on by going through the passage (to train on lessers or to say 'hi' to Elvarg).

T-Def-T

A: No, there isn't a Dragon 2h out yet, although I'm sure that there will be one released at some point.

Commando555
Q: hi sal, to access canifis and the morytania area of runescape do you have to complete the 'devious minds' quest. if not how else can you get there?

A: Yo don't need to complete the Devious Minds Quest, but you first need to complete the Priest in Peril Quest to access the Morytania area. This gives you access to the village of Canifis. After you finish the quest, you can start the Nature Spirit Quest to gain access to the Mort'ton Swamp and the rest of the area.
