Sal's Realm of RuneScape
July 2005 Q&A's

All of these Q&A's are from July 2005.

Junter363
Q: hello sal,I found out about your site by serching
"where to find a granite maul on runescape." and i still havent found that out i read in ur earlier q&a's that granite shields are droped by trolls is this the same with mauls? Sal your site is really usefull.
Hunter363

A: Actually, while Granite Shields can be dropped by Trolls, Granite Mauls are only dropped by Slayer monsters such as Nechryaels and Gargoyles.

Jack
Q: is it true that you have to have 70 attack AND 85 slayer to wield abyssal whip, i am lvl 74 and i have one but i will sell if i have to get slayer up :p. thanks

A: No, you only need to have 70 Attack in order to wield an Abyssal Whip.

Dale Liddle
Q: Hey sal kwl site helped me threw alot of hard times but i have a question. Do you know wot the "Flamtaer Hammer" is or does because it is jus sitting in my bank space lol thnkz sal an again kwl site!!!

A: Flamtaer Hammers are only used in rebuilding the temple from the Shades of Mort'ton Quest. You can keep rebuilding the temple later on to get Holy Oils for use in obtaining the keys for the doors in the nearby dungeon. It's more effective in building the temple than a regular hammer, and you can buy another from the shop in Mort'ton.

Jenz
Q: In the shades of mort'ton quest i followed your guide, but basically when i repair the temple i get about 20 loar shades pulling it down again and attacking me, i am high combat and crafting, but this seems impossible to do alone, do i need more people?

A: Yes, in order to build the temple there should be at least a small group of people working on it, and perhaps someone to kill the nearby Shades. It's best to go to a highly populated server and build it, as there are usually more people there working on it.

Q: Sal!!!! Plz answer me question, you didn't answer last month, I reeeally want to know! Can non-members wear these?:
-shade robe
-zamorak robe
-HAM robe
-druid robe
Plz answer!!!!

A: Zamorak Robes, HAM robes and Druid Robes can't be worn by Freeplayers as they are Members-Only items. However, Shade Robes can be worn by Freeplayers as the Shade Random Event is available to Freeplayers too.

Aramond0
Q: Sal your site ROCKS!!!! Any way my question is i want to become a member and my dads says it would ok if u can pay in the mial by cheque. is this true? Plz Plz answer

A: There just-so-happens to be a service called "PayByCash" that is available for use. Check out the Subscription FAQ on the official RuneScape site for more info. :)

Cluodjec11
Q: I threw away my amulet of ghost speak thinking i wouldnt need it but then i noticed i was gonna need it for the ghost ahoy quest which i want to do.My question is can i get it back in any way?
P.S.By the way i love your page after my friend ph201 told me about it i use it for everything.
Please try and answer my question as quickly as possible.

A: You can get your Amulet of Ghostspeak back by talking to Father Urhney from the Restless Ghost Quest.

Totoro Freak
Q: I am soon to become a member and have been traning all of my skills, some members have told me that there are a few items that a starting member needs. They did not spesifize what items so i wondered if this was true or not is there a members *starter kit?* ty for ur time :)

A: There really isn't a "starter kit" persay, it just depends on what you want to do. Most people usually complete the Freeplay quests and get their Attack to 60 first so that they can use Dragon weapons--without wasting any time training after getting Members. Other than that, it's really up to you! There are all sorts of minigames and new skills to take advantage of, so just have fun!

CrazyQuad05
Q: Hi its me again. i have a question this time. I know the barrows r members only, but some1 said tht u had to have 70 of everything to use nething tht came from there. the ranging stuff needs 70 range and def, magic need 70 magic and lvl 70 everything involved. Is tht true?

A: Yes, all of the equipment requires at least level 70 in the related skills:
-Ahrim's Robe, Skirt and Hood - 70 Defense & Magic
-Ahrim's Staff - 70 Attack & Magic
-Karil's Top,Skirt & Coif - 70 Ranged & Defense
-Karil's Crossbow - 70 Ranged
-Guthan's Platebody, Skirt & Helm - 70 Defense
-Guthan's Spear - 70 Attack
-Dharok's Platebody, Legs & Helm - 70 Defense
-Dharok's Great Axe - 70 Attack & Strength
-Torag's Platebody, Legs & Helm - 70 Defense
-Torag's Hammers (2) - 70 Attack
-Verac's Brassard, Skirt & Helm - 70 Defense
-Verac's Flail - 70 Attack

Q: Hi, seince about yesterday no one can see me talk. I talk to freinds on friend list and they dont respond, I talk to people around me and they cant hear me. My freind from real life told me he couldent hear a word. Please help me. I can see what people say but they cant hear me. How do I fix this???

A: It sounds like you may have been muted by a player moderator in RuneScape. Sometimes that happens if you use inappropriate language in the game and a moderator hears you. You should probably contact RuneScape customer support to find out what's wrong.

Cubanslayer4
Q: Hey sal! your website is awesome. everytime i open runescape ur website is there too. this is my first time posting a question for on ur site, so plz plz answer it. i konw that when ur done with monkey madness u can turn into different types of monkeys. and i know that you can only do it in the zoo. but i saw a few ppl out side the zoo in a little area by the bank that were monkeys. thats normal cuz i have a friend that can do it too. but the ppl that werent my friend can walk around by the stalls as monkeys. my friend cant tho. they wouldnt tell me how, so can you help me? if you can thanks.

A: You can become a monkey at any time after completing the Monkey Madness Quest. There are different kinds of monkeys that you can become too. Just kill a monkey and take its bones, along with a Talisman bought from the General Store on Ape Atoll for 1,000gp and your Amulet of M'Speak. Go back to the Gnome Wizard in the zombie cave and ask him to make a new Talisman. Depending on the bones you give him, you'll get a different Greegree. Use this to transform into a monkey. :)

Sals BIG Fan
Q: sal this site is da bomb i bet jagex staff couldnt make a stit like this anyway i know u want an abissal wip i hope u could tell me how 2 get them other than buing from players i hav mony but i dont want two spend it ive never have 5 M ever please help me

A: Abyssal Whips are only dropped by Abyssal Demons, found in the Canifis Slayer Tower. They require level 85 Slayer to kill, and the Abyssal Whip is a rare drop.

Mrblingsings
Q: hi sal just to say ur site rocks!!!!!!! anywayz i was walking to fally one day and a guy asked me if i wanted tobuy mithril seeds and i was thinkin wut on earth were mithril seeds???? so sal, wut r mithril seeds??? and again ur site rocks!!!!

A: Mithril Seeds allow you to grow Flowers when planted. You can plant them just about anywhere, and the flower's color is always random. Among them are blue, red, yellow, multi-colored and black.

Jesse
Q: : Hi sal. I've sent you alot of questions but u havent answered any.
I'm making a ranger (a new 1 for pking) but in your guide it says rangers should always have full green dragon leather with u need t beat dragon slayer 2 wear the body. Somy question is what is the best way for a ranger to beat d-slayer

A: It's very difficult to defeat the Dragon with Ranging alone, as bows don't allow the use of a shield, and you MUST use the Anti-Dragon Breath Shield at all times to even stand a chance. Using a crossbow is possible, but it would be very slow. I'd suggest bringing your attack and defense up some (as these stats only affect you when the yare higher than your Ranging) so that you can wield some decent melee weapons and fight him like that.

Gnomes Rock
Q: First of all i love your site, when im on runescape im also on ur site because it rocks (and i need the help), ect ect ect you kno the rest :P
I wanted to ask you about being a member, if you become a member then go back to f2p will you keep all of you f2p items from the members world nd your gps?
Also what will happen with your members items in your bank? if u cant trade them in the free world (can you?) then are they still in your account but unusable that is unless you go back to p2p (is that possible, to kwwp switching?) or do they dissapear?
And finally (sorry if im droning on but i really dont understand) can you become a member and switch back to f2p for as many times as you like?
Sorry about going on and on, but i really need your help to answer these, thanks for taking the time to answer these and to (possibly :P :P) answer...also thank for your site :D

A: Yes, all of your items (whether they're f2p or p2p) will still be there---you don't lose anything when you go back to being freeplay. Your members items are still there, but you can't use them, as they become "Members Objects" until you become a Member again. You can keep reverting back and forth to Freeplay and Member status as much as you'd like.

Raja1989
Q: Hey Sal i love the site it's so cool!! first i just wanted to say gratz on 85 mining and this great site... its gettin better everyday an i use it over all others! :P Just a quick question... what is RS2 and where can i find it? Thanks man!

A: RS2 is the current RuneScape that most people play now. It's just known as RuneScape, as it took RuneScape Classic's place when the big "RS2 Update" happened.

Anonymouse
Q: Hey Sal love the site!!! (its the only 1 I use =]). Any way ive got a question about prayer. when you wear an item that gives a prayer bouns (like a priest gown or monks robe) what exactically dose this bouns do? (I.E. stregthen your prayes, slow down the reduction of your prayer points, ect.) thanks!

A: Prayer bonuses slow down how fast your prayers drain your points, so your prayers will last longer.

Adihman
Q: When you go into Zanaris and give the diamond to the guard, do you have to give him a diamond each time, or just once? ps great site

A: Yes, you'll need to give the guard a diamond every time you wish to enter the market in Zanaris.

Tommy
Q: hey man this is a good site but my question is that there are sites on the web about runescape money making guides and some cost money with your expirience do u think it would be wroth while to buy it?

A: Well, I'm sure that there are some good guides out there that can help, but a lot of them just offer basic hints and tips that almost anyone can figure out easily. Like smithing and high alchemizing or "buy for low and sell for more." I'm not saying that all the guides out there are filled with worthless info, as some are quite helpful and may be worth it. I'd just stay away from guides that claim that you can "make millions instantly with a level 3" or anything that seems too good to be true.

Dogman
Q: hi sal plese anser this qwestion as you have not anserd my otheres.Anyway all day today i have been trying toget helbreads(or hallys) from the camp in the elf kingdom the only problem is the elves wont let me in! i am asking if you know how to make the elves let you in. and i just have 1 more qwestion. do you know how to get into the west part of aradone. plese anser this i really need help so plese.
your fellow runescaper
dogman

A: You have to complete the Regicide Quest before being able to buy Halberds from the shop and use them. To get into West Ardougne, you must first complete the Plague City Quest (or start it, as you'll have to go into West Ardougne to complete the quest).

Jesserulz0
Q: OK this probably really stupid and i should know this but how do u take a screen shot. Or is it members only. Please answer this cuz u havent answered any of mine.
P.S. your site is D-BOMB!

A: Check out the Screenshot Guide for info on taking screenshots.

PK Mage3330
Q: Will you be able to craft death runes(one day).!?!?!?

A: Yes, it seems that there are plans to expand the Runecrafting skill to allow members to craft Death, Blood and Soul Runes at some point.

Xorgarth
Q: Hey Sal, i know this is kind of a noob question (although im not a noob) everyone keeps usingthe phrases "f2p" and "p2p". i know its something with trading and stuff but im not totally sure. thnx!
P.S. you site rules and i use it everyday!

A: Those are actually just shortened forms of "Free to Play" and "Pay to Play" (a.k.a. Members). Check the Dictionary for even more terms and their uses.

NickPotter
Q: I hawe a question.
I've been Playing runescape for some time. Now i'm level 63. All was just great, But, there is one thing that don't allow me to play any more. My parents, that is. The thing is that they think that Runescape is not safe. And i'm not talking about scamming and stealing idoms. I'm talking about Viruses, and stuff like that.
They think, "Why should someone make a game like this and allow people to play for free. There must be some reason." And they think that if i'll continue playing, the PC will get some realy bad viruses that a regular AntiVirus fill hawe problems with.
Well, Please answer the question below. I'm realy hoping on it, and i hope that i'll be able to show it to them, and they will allow me to play agane.
My question is, "Is RuneScape safe?"
You're my only hope. I dont want all those hours, days, weeks, and mounths to be wasted. Please try to answer it. Thank you! NickPotter

A: Since it's release in 2001, RuneScape has always been free, or at least allowed anyone play a big part of the game for free, for as long as they want. They hope that by enjoying the free part of the game, some players might upgrade to members for even more features and to help develop the game. Of course RuneScape is safe--if it wasn't, there wouldn't be hundreds of thousands of players playing, with a large chunk of them being Free Players. And as long as you have an up-to-date antivirus program, a firewall, and you don't visit any "shady" sites, you should be fine! :)

Mr.Cheese
Q: This is my first question, so plz answer! I see people with a "muddy key"
1) how do you get one? a monster or sumthin?
2)what chest is it used for and where?
3) what loot do you get?

A: Muddy Keys are a rare drop from Chaos Dwarves in the Wilderness. It's used to open the muddy chest in the center of the Wilderness Lava Maze, which often contains assorted Runes, coins, and sometimes different kinds of armor.

Triky69
Q: hey i love the site i just found it a couple of days ago but it is the best ive ever seen. newayz the question. i was just wondering if non-members can wear god armor b/c in the tips and tricks section it didnt state specifically if non-members could. thx alot

A: Yes, nonmembers can wear God Armor, although it must be traded to the free worlds by a member.

Hellboy72080
Q: hey sal ur site ROCKS... i just had to say that i us ur site everytime i go on runescape... so anyway wut are team capes for, not castle wars capes but team capes cuz i recently found a team-46 cape on the gound i wear it but dont no wut its for once again ur site ROCKS

A: Team Capes can be bought from the different cape sellers in the Wilderness, each selling a different style of cape. There are 50 different Team Capes in RuneScape. The main use of these capes is to keep track of your team in the Wilderness or any other areas of the game. When 2 people wear the same style cape, the other person will show up as a blue dot on the other's map--very useful for keeping track of clan members during a war!

Q: Hi, I have a little question here, I have just done the Dragon Slayer quest, I killed Elvarg the Dragon once, but I didnt receive the notice of finishing the quest successfully! besides, the dragon tried to fight me for the 2nd time, but i just left the room and went through the wall into karamja volcano . I asked another player who did the quest, and he said that "if you can re-open the door from the karamja volcano side, then you have done the quest. and yes i can push the wall from the 2 sides, but i havent received the quest points!! plz tell me whats wrong ASAP. thanx in advance!

A: It sounds like you may have started killing Elvarg after someone else tried but left. I can't be sure, as I wasn't there when you fought him, but I'd suggest fighting him again. Since you opened the secret panel in the volcano, you should just be able to go through there and fight him again. Good luck!

Topsail
Q: hey sal, i've been using the website since i started and it helped me lots. i've read the submit rules and everything, i've even looks over and over to the awnser to this but i could not find it. i have a char. and he is a main range but to low of a lvl to do dragon slayer. i've heard i can ware dragon red body with 40 def and 60 range, but without doing dragon slayer is this true? if this isnt a wast of your time please awnser... your viewer, topsail

A: No, you can't wear any type of Dragon leather body without first completing the Dragon Slayer Quest.

Zax
Q: Hi sal, i saw a cheat code on a website that said i could get a scife by using weaken on some logs and killing the ensuing lvl20 tree spirit but it said to go in varrok to where there is a lot of logs...i can't find them. Where are they and is this cheat legit??

A: Many of the "cheat" sites out there are false--there aren't any cheats for RuneScape. There have been glitches, but this is not 1 of them. There are no logs in Varrock that will yield a Shade or Tree Spirit that when killed will drop a Scythe or any other item.

Myrtle_ssj
Q: Hey sal, I checked out pretty much of all your fansite and it rocks has all the info im looking for! I just have a few questions and please answer them.
1)In your screenshots page you had a picture of the mining guild and it was packed with people, is it always this full of people?
2)In runescape, lots of people play at once right? Can people send viruses and stuff into my computer through runescape?
And thats all hope you will answer it.

A:
1) No, the guild isn't always full, it just happens that there were lots of people in there when I took the screenshot. It depends on the amount of people on each server, and when you happen to be in there. At times it can be practically empty, while at other times it'll be packed!
2) Viruses can't be sent through RuneScape, it's completely safe. ;)

Da 800
Q: hey sal awsome website i go on all the time but my question is why do you make profits off of steel if you can make mith?

A: The reason I make steel is because of the fact that iron is much faster to mine that mithril. Also, when you compare the amount of cash and experience earned from mining the same amount of coal for both iron and mithril, it seems that you earn much more from steel.

Dangel7
Q: Hi Plz, answer me this time, is very important to me to know
I submitted 5 times, and u answerred none of the questions Plz answer me this 1
Is there any chance for any1 to kill a KQ alone? ppl say there isnt, but there is on a site a guide to kill a KQ. Im combat lvl 85, and when Ive tried, I died, so I deffinetly have to train more :p
I went 2 times in team, and Ive survived, but alone, I have no chance. Is there any chance to a lvl 126 guy to kill a KQ? I hope u answer If u do, tyvm, DAngel7
PS. Ive seen this site evolving from the begginning of this year (2005) Great job!

A: Well, it's very difficult to even kill the Kalphite Queen with a team. There have been people who've defeated the KQ alone, and taken screenshots as proof. You just need to know what you're doing and be ready to face 1 of the most challenging monsters in RuneScape!

Soviet_63
Q: I've tried to find the answer 2 my ? all over the place. faq's this website, runescape, but not one single one of them talks about how your HP works. whats up with that. how do you gain exp to level up your HP?

A: You can't just train hitpoints in RuneScape. You'll gain experience while training your other combat stats such as attack or defense. You'll receive about 1/4 of the total experience when you fight an enemy towards you hitpoints.

Ckypunkrock
Q: Hey man. This site is absolutely incredible. As soon as I open runescape, i open your site. lol. I just wanted to know where you can find a granite shield without having to buy one from another rs player. Please answer this whenever you have the time. Thanks. ROCK ON SAL!!!!!!

A: Granite Shields are sometimes dropped by the Trolls on the mountain near the town of Burthorpe.

Hannahmatt
Q: what are berets?also your site ROCKS sal!!!please answer :)

A: Berets are an item from Treasure Trails; they look like a French painter's hat and come in a variety of colors.

Sir George X
Q: ur webpage is great.anyways, just a question, wats the "skull over your head"?

A: That skull means that you have attacked another player in the Wilderness. If you have a skull over your head, it means that you will lose any items you're carrying, should you happen to die. The only way to remove it is to wait 20 minutes so that it wears off.

Labtop215
Q: This site is awsome. Its just to bad that there are other sites that try to hack others and stuff, otherwise I'd tell everyone about this place. Anyways heres my question... How much dose a spinich roll sell for? I've had three of them and they were just taking up bank space. Some people try to sell them for 100k and others try to buy them for 500gp. Its really confusing. I did however manage to sell all three to this guy for 2k. But I'm not sure if I scammed him or if he scammed me. Anyways you rocks! B

A: Spinach Rolls really aren't worth anything in RuneScape. You can get them from the Mysterious Man, the Crystal Chest, and as a drop from Moss Giants. Still, people seem to think that they are rare items worth quite a bit of cash.

Blinkzor
Q: hey sal!!! cool sight i posted a question last month but couldnt see it in the june q's and a's neway i was wondering if non members could use ring of forging and if they can where can they get one? ty

A: The Ring of Forging is only available to members.

Crowcid
Q: Sal your sight is the coolest! I was wondering can you trade mime mask, robe, or pants?

A: The entire Mime set is actually untradeable, so you can only obtain it from the Mime random event.

Zane
Q: On Dragon Slayer the part where you fight the level 82 lesser demon in Melzar's Maze how do you get another maze key if you die and you lose the key?

A: If you happen to lose your key to Melzar's Maze, the only way to get another is to speak with Oziach who will return it to you.

Eekooja
Q: hey sal, nice site it rocks and so on anyway my question is how come sometimes more than 1 player can atack a monster at once and some only 1 player can fight?

A: Some areas in RuneScape are known as multi-combat zones: places where multiple players can attack a single enemy (or multiple enemies can attack 1 player). If you see the crossed sword symbol in the bottom right corner of the screen, you'll know that you're in a multi-combat area.

808islandboy
Q: Hey sal, youve havent been answering my questions lately but i really really want to see the answers of them on your site. well anyway, heres the question, i see that u have a santa hat in the pictures that u have of runescape and runescape classic, if the drops were made in runescape classic howcome u have it in runescape? plz answer back.

A: All items from RuneScape Classic were transferred over to the new RuneScape when it was released last March. So, everything I had (along with all other RSC players) was transferred into the new game, including my Santa Hat.

Dark Angel of Glory
Q: Hello once again! I feel somewhat like a n00b for submitting twice in ten minutes, but I forgot to ask about the difference between RuneScape Classic, RuneScape, and RuneScape 2. You use all three terms on the site and I can't tell the difference! Could you possably explain it? Thanks bunches once again! ~Dark Angel of Glory I oppologize in advance for spelling and grammatical errors and for repeated questions.

A: RuneScape Classic (a.k.a. RSC) was the original RuneScape game that was released in 2001. RuneScape and RuneScape 2 are the same thing: the current game that most people play now.

Dark Raven
Q: Hi! I was just wondering, can u change ur password or username without having to create a new account again? And if you can, how?Hope you answer!

A: You can change your password, but not your username. To change your password, click on "Account Management" on the official RuneScape site, log in, and then click on the "change your password" link.

Slayermaster34
Q: Hey sal Im a real fan of ur web.you havent ansered any of my question.O well. Anywayz where and how can i get those cool helmets with the different horns hope u anser thiz.TY

A: Those helmets with horns on them are available in the village of Rellekka after you finish the Fremennik Trials Quest.

Andy Kinsman
Q: hey sal, my friend told me that that mystrious cat "bob" was a jagex spy. he follows you around for proof that you were doing something illegal like scamming. is this true and if it is its nice to have a spy working for the good guys! andy

A: To the best of my knowledge, Bob isn't a Jagex spy. He doesn't have any real use in the game other than walking around and drawing attention from anyone he comes in contact with. But, he does seem to hint at the fact that he is Zaros, 1 of the lesser-known gods of RuneScape.

xSlayer
Q: hey sal!!! ur site rox, its DE BOMB! you didnt answer my last question and i hope u answer it this time!!! plz plz plz answer it! my question is that how can u get color boots, were can u get them.. i really want to know! im becoming a member in a month! hope u answer! c ya sal for now. thanks!

A: There are different kinds of colored boots in RuneScape. There are some pastel-coored boots that can be bought from the clothing shop in the Gnome Stronghold. There are also some darker shades of boots available in the shop in Canifis.
