Q: Hey Sal! I love your site and use ir in all my runescaping needs. I was wondering how you get the bark for splitbark armor?

A: You can obtain the bark for Splitbark Armor from Hollow trees, which grow around the city of Canifis. Please see the Splitbark Armor guide for info on making the armor.

Q: First of all, thanks for making this site, it reall helped me in alot of quests. And i was wondering, in the options, what is Auto-retaliate mean?

A: The "Auto Retaliate" option simply means that if a monster or other enemy attacks you, your character will fight back. If it's turned off, your character won't fight back until you choose to attack the opponent.

Q: What is the difference between torn page (s) and tornpage (g)?

A: A Torn Page (S) can only be added to a Holy book, wile a Torn Page (G) can only be added to a Book of Balance (a Torn Page (Z) belongs to an Unholy Book).

Q: I love your site Sal! I was reading your ring guide and it said that once you obtain the ring of charos you can manipulate the minds of npc's. like tricking them into giving you free boat rides. But I was wandering can you trick npc's in to selling you stuff at lower prices. Thnx for helping me out Sal !!

A: There are a number of things that the Ring Of Charos (a) allows you to do. Currently, you can't use the ring to decrease shop prices in stores, but several NPCs can be "persuaded" to discount certain services. for example, the cost of a Magic Carpet ride can be cut in half by charming a carpet merchant. The Fossegrimen near Rellekka can be tricked into thinking a Bass is a Shark, and will enchant your Lyre. A Ring Of Charos (a) guide is in the works, with even more things you can do with your ring, so keep an eye on the site's main page!

Q: Sal,sorry to disturb but alot of people are wandering and me, is where is the pure essence mine since its for non-members now?

A: The Pure Essence mine is in the same place as the regular essence mine, and you get to it in the same way as before. In order to mine Pure Essence, you need to be at least level 30 Mining and you must be a Member.

Q: hey sal, whats going on? anyway, i got several questions to ask...
1)why did they stop h'ween masks and santa hats? its unfair for the people you want one but cant afford it.
2)im stuck in a members-only place but my membership has expired. what can i do?
3)finally, to get ghost robes, do you just gotta get the ring of visibility or complete desert treasure?...
thanx sal

A:
1) These items were only meant to be for fun when they were released, and Jagex probably felt that people who were around at that time should be rewarded with a fun item. They were never meant to be priced for millions of gp, and when they were first dropped, most "rare" items were distributed evenly and sold for several thousand gp, so everyone had a fair chance to get one.
2) If you're still "trapped" in a members-only area, you should probably send a message to RuneScape Customer Support and let them know.
3) No, you just need to have the ring from the quest, you don't need to have completed the entire quest. :-)

Q: I'm so sorry but i really need to know. This is regarding the Dragon Slayer quest. I know that it's not advisable to use ranged on Elvarg but... would it be possible if I used the dragonfire shield to defend myself and run to a safe position behind something like a wall and attack the dragon with my bow? Is this possible?
PLEASE REPLY. thanks!

A: The problem with that, is trying to find somewhere safe to hide, while still being able to range Elvarg without him killing you. It *may* be possible to hide behind some of the stalagmites and range him, but beware that a single breath of his fire is enough to kill a RuneScaper. If you still want to try, I'd suggest bringing a crossbow and an antifire shield, and maybe some low-level fish first (to try out the possible places to hide). Open the passageway to the volcano, just in case you die and head back to Elvarg to try and find someplace to hide and range him. If you die, you're not going to lose much, and you'll still be able to get back by going through the volcano later on. If you find a spot, just let Elvarg kill you, then get your gear and head back to kill him.

Q: is salmoneus your real name in runescape?

A: I always seem to get questions about this, so I'll answer this one. :P Yes, my real RuneScape name is Salmoneus. :)

Q: hey sal! awsome site! i'm on a clue scroll and it says i have to go to baxtorian falls but everytime i try to "swim to rock," it says i'm lucky to be alive and i end up on the land somewhere downstream. can u help?

A: You can't swim to the rock, because the river's current is too strong. Instead, you need to bring a rope with you and use it with the rock to get across.

Q: Hi sal, great site. Is it good to have backup armor, such as owning mithril armor even though you own addy? Or is having backup armor a waste of bank-space?

A: It depends on a couple of things. First, if you have the bank space (ie: you're a member), a spare set of armor is good to have, in case you want to go PKing, or in case you lose your armor. Otherwise, you probably don't want to waste bank space. If you have expensive/rare armor (like a Barrows set), you may want to keep a spare set in cases that you don't want to risk losing everything. But if you have a set of Adamant armor, which is easy to replace, you probably don't want an extra set.

Q: Hello Sal I love your website! I always use it for RuneScape Quests. But I sent you a message and you did not respond. If it did not get to you or something, here are my questions:
1. If you die holding an untradeble item such as (Genie Lamp, Pirate Map, ect.), can others see it?
2. Can you see the Genie who gives you the Genire Lamp twice?
Please answer these questions I am dying to know! Thx in the future!

A: 1) No, if you drop any sort of quest object or otherwise untradeable item, it will simply disappear shortly; no one will be able to see it.
2) There is no limit to how many times you can see the Genie in RuneScape, or any other random event for that matter.

Q: sal, great website but what are forums?

A: A forum (or discussion forum) is a place where members can talk and discuss about a subject (or multiple subjects). There forums on this site allow members to discuss practically everything about RuneScape, set up trades, as questions and much more. It's really a fun place, so stop on over!

Q: Hi sal i love your site .Me and my brother keep fighting over wheither the dragon 2 hand needs just 60 strength or 60 strengt an attack.

A: The Dragon 2H Sword only requires 60 Strength to wield, not 60 Attack.

Windar92
Q: This sort of has to do with both RuneScape2 and your website. I saw this guy with a hat that looked like a Santa hat but it wasn't one. I asked my friend what it was he said it was something like a fez hat. He said you get it in the desert. I wanted one so I searched your site for it but i couldn't find it. Plz answer:)

A: You can buy Fez Hats from Ali's Fez Clothes shop in Al Kharid, but you must be a Member to use the shop and wear the hat.

MajorCapataz
Q: it is safe to buy others people accounts? before i forget it sal ur site roxs

A: No, it's not safe. For one thing, there's no way to tell if someone will just take your money and change the password, or use the recovery questions to change the password after you've paid. Not to mention the fact that it's illegal to buy or sell accounts in RuneScape, which is punishable by a ban if Jagex found out that you bought an account.

Q: i was reading some of your guides and im not sure what you mean by 'powermine'..thanks....btw awesome site !!

A: Powermining just means that you drop any ores that you mine from a rock. Usually, it's a fast-respawning ore, such as tin or iron which has a very low value, so you aren't losing much money. This means that you will level up faster because you won't be going back and forth to drop off your ores at a bank.

Q: I was reading the page about bank space-saving tips, and I read that you can get a Zombie Head from the Lumbridge Swamp. So I went over there and started diggin all over the place, to no result. Is it members' only?

A: Zombie Heads are Holiday Items which you could only get during the Halloween 2005 event. You can't get them anymore, since the event only lasted about a week.

Q: Hey Salmoneus! Love your site, guy. It helps me a ton on quests and skills. But I have one question about the herblore skill... Your skill guide says that you can make your first potion at level 3 herblore, but I'm a new member and I'm only level 1, how can I dod this? Please post this and I will now 'cause I check your site everyday! Thanx!
Firedrakex12

A: You must first complete the Druidic Ritual Quest before being able to begin the Herblore skill. Once you've completed that quest, you'll gain 2 levels in Herblore and you'll be able to identify your very first Guam Leaf and mix your first potion!

Q: hey salmoneus! i was lookin' at ur page-Sal's page- and i noticed that u have lvl 87 minin and 74 smithing. on some of the questions asked, u said that u make steel bars and armour\weapons and sell them.if ur lvls r that high, then y don't u make like rune or addy stuff instead?it is really starting to bother me.

A: I actually make Steel Plates and high alch them for a profit, because the ores (coal and iron) are pretty easy to mine, and they fetch a decent profit. Of course, I could make Mithril or Adamant stuff, but those types of ores are more difficult to mine, and they require more coal to make a single bar. Doing some simple math (and factoring in time), you'll find that you can make more money and exp from Steel Plates than by making mith or adamant items.

Personmage
Q: Hi Sal, i was wondering where i use my crystal key?

A: You can use your Crystal Key on the chest in Taverley (in the long building to the east of the 2H shop).
