hello hi here's an update on life and stuff

What's going on guys, Kamil here, coming at you with another blog post!!   sooooooooo i've finished uni for another year, still not sure if i've passed or failed everything but who cares summer's here right???   i managed to land a job after a few months of searching, it's nothing special but it pays and i get great hours so I'm happy with it, plus all my coworkers are pretty cool and chill to work with so I enjoy it   following on from that, i've started thinking about maybe moving out to a shared house. i'm still a bit of an idiot when it comes to doing adult stuff, but I'd seriously love the independence and I think it'd be a fun experience. i've been looking around, and i can get a decent room in a good area for around $175/week including utilities, so i'll be able to support myself fully provided i be frugal about it...   ...but i wanna buy a motorbike. i'm going for my permit test next week, and i've already ridden a mate's bike around a few times and got all the basics down so i should be alright for that. i've got my eye on a kawasaki ninja 300 because it looks sexy and goes fast and is pretty cheap (around $4,000 for a used '13/'14 model). i've got enough saved up for it and all the gear and shizzle so yeah i'm fudgein pumped.   also another reason i want to move out is because my parents are absolutely not happy with me getting a bike. in fact they said they'd kick me out if i did; i think they're just bluffing and they wouldn't do that because i'm such a nice son but who knows. i understand their concerns, but man i don't want to live my life in constant fear and never doing what i want to do because it might be a bit dangerous. does that make me a bad person? who knows. it's a pretty shizzlety situation, but whatever i can always move out i suppose   i've also been getting into photography a bit, just messing around with mum's dslr. i'm especially in love with astrophotography here's a photo i took earlier, nothing special but I just love going way out into the bush at night and seeing the city lights and stars and shizzle   anyway that's about it for now, until next year :)

School results

So today we got our ATAR scores, which is basically a number that ranks you in the entire state and is a determiner for what courses you can study at Uni (e.g. 60 ATAR means you did better than 40% of the state or thereabouts). Needless to say it's given huge importance (although in the grand scheme of life is pretty irrelevant) and I was incredibly nervous when I heard the text message come in. Anyway, turns out I did much better than anticipated and should be able to get into my desired course at the Uni I want to go to, so yay me :)   Schooling is officially behind me, and I'll be looking forward to Uni. With that said I'll be needing some kind of laptop/tablet device. I've been eyeing the Surface series ever since MS first released it and with Surface 4 coming sometime next year, it might be a good time to pick-up a Surface 3, so I guess I'll keep my eye on its prices. Any other options available? Nothing really too fancy, just the basics seems fine.

highschool

So Thursday I finished my last exam, and with it finished my schooling. During the last 10 minutes of the exam I couldn't help but smile at the thought of moving on... It's not that I dislike highschool, I've had a great experience all the way to the end but I feel like I've had enough. Results come out December 15th and Uni offers shortly afterwards, so a nervous wait 'till then. Year 12 has been a great experience for me though, I'm lucky in that my teachers have all been immensely devoted to their work and I've developed some great relationships with them, and they've taught me a lot. Same with my entire year level. Ours is a pretty small cohort in general and so pretty much everyone knows each other, which means we're all friends and it makes going to school that much better. Ah well, bai all except a few close friends :P   Now that I have nothing but free time, I need to get a job somewhere. I wouldn't mind a retail store, stacking shelves might seem boring but I think I could find it peaceful and easy enough. Fast food is a big no-no though :P My parents are going to be barking on me to hurry up and get a job, so I guess I'll get on it soon.   I don't know if I want to get back into Runescape at the moment, I'm just not feeling it. I'll try to increase my productivity and presence on the forums, but yeah I'll probably hold out on resubbing for a couple weeks.   So that's just a brief update of my life for anyone who cares. See ya around :)

So I've been working on my handwriting

soz for the big potato, right-click image and open in new tab for easier viewing   Anyway, still needs a lot of work but at least it's legible :3 I decided to try and improve my handwriting over the weekend so I chose Helvetica Light and went to town. The notes on the left are from before, notes on the right are after.   Anyone else tried doing this? If so, any tips?

What if

The only reason Half-Life 3 has been delayed for so long is because Valve are making an Orange Box 2? With Half-Life 3, Portal 3 and TF3???

Lost, TV show

Well I decided to start watching Lost as it has received very high praise, and that praise is more than warranted. I'm only on the first season but damn this show is turning out really awesome. I didn't expect it to be so eerie though, it's quite scary in places D: No spoilers, please.   Also those numbers, those fudgeing numbers creep me the hell out.

Started watching Game of Thrones

I can definitely see why people love this show. Lots of nudity + gore + great story + great actors/costumes = AWESOME.   Tbh I didn't think there would be as much gore and nudity as there would be (y'know, since it's an American show) but I welcome it nonetheless :D   Only a few episodes into the first season so no spoilers please.   :)

My first time

I bet you thought this was going to be about sex, huh? Well, close enough. It's about my first time installing a Linux distro, which I achieved yesterday after a few hours of mucking around. Let's begin:   So, yesterday I was sitting around bored when I decided "fudge it i wanna see what all the linux hype is". And so, after researching a few distro's I decided on Linux Mint 12 (LM12). I downloaded the .iso and because I couldn't be stuffed burning to a CD I decided to use a USB. I downloaded Disk Image Writer, "burned" the file to the USB and rebooted. I entered BIOS and went into 'First Boot Option' (or w/e it's called) and I looked for USB and found: USB-HDD, USB-CD ROM, USB-ZIP and USB-FDD. I went with USB-HDD and exit BIOS, and the computer restarted. After the first loading screen (where you choose to enter BIOS), I was hit with an error about 'No default or UI configuration directive found'.   I decided to go back into BIOS and try USB-CD ROM, and the same thing happened. Went back and tried USB-ZIP and the same thing happened again. I didn't go USB-FDD because that's a floppy disk lololol. Anyway, I launched Windows 7 again and started looking up the problem. I found a lot of people saying to use UNetbootin and so I did. I burned the image file to the USB using UNetbootin and decided to try again. I tried all 3 USB boot options, and again, the same error came up. I decided to format my USB to FAT-32 again, burn it again and try again. Nada. Did a little bit more researching and found 1 post saying to format to FAT instead of FAT-32 so I thought, what the heck. Formatted it, burned it, booted from USB-HDD and BAM. It worked. That's the first step completed :D  So anyway, I was playing around in the LM12 OS and it was neat. I decided to install it. So, as the installer goes, I partitioned my 1TB HDD and gave LM12 250GB, and W7 750GB. I wizzed through the rest of the process until it started installing. After a few minutes I noticed the bar hadn't changed for a while, and so I waited. And waited. And waited. After 15 minutes I asked the LM12 Help IRC channel for some advice. One awesomely helpful user pointed me to a page where people were saying they had problems installing with wireless on, and so I decided that next install I would turn it off. I reboot my computer, and tried again.   When it came to partitioning my HDD again, I realised that there was 250GB of unallocated space. I asked the LM12 Help IRC again on how to add it back to my W7 partition, and the same user (love him/her :D) guided me through it using GParted. However, when I went to apply the operation, some errors came up about not being able to complete it or something. I clicked OK and it showed a warning label next to my W7 partition saying that there was nothing on the system (i.e it was empty). I freaked out. I rebooted and changed back to HDD boot, and as it was loading chkdsk came up. I thought "might as well let it do its thing". After that finally finished W7 loaded and thankfully everything was there.   I shut down, went back into USB-HDD boot and loaded up LM12 again. I checked out the partitions and everything was in order. So, remembering my previous fiasco, I turned off my wireless connection and tried again. I got through the manual process and then it started installing. Thankfully that went without a hitch, and it successfully installed! My computer rebooted and a screen came up asking which OS I wanted to boot into. I chose LM12, and after a minute or so it finished, and I had successfully installed a Linux distro on my computer!   All that spanned a fair few hours, but I must admit, I found it surprisingly fun (the whole process), and I can understand all the love towards it :) It's pretty confusing right now, but that's the fun part - figuring it all out. So yeah, that's my adventure, hope you enjoyed reading as I enjoyed doing/writing :D

Did you know???

That if you press the Windows Key + A number, it will open up that corresponding program on the task bar? So for me, WinKey + 1 would open up Chrome, WinKey + 2 would open up Windows Explorer, etc. etc.   I found this out just then LOL. Seems pretty nifty.
