My grandpa gave me a set of antlers for making knife handles so naturally the first one I make has to be for him. I'm still building a heat treating oven so I'm still at the edge shaping stage:
I don't suppose anyone knows their way around electrical stuff? That's all that needs to be finished on my oven, I've got all the bricks and stuff laid.
The comparison in activity from when I joined in 2006 to now is mind boggling. I can't believe it's been ten years. I was looking at my profile seeing what I included and started to realize... it's already been five years since I had relocated nearly exclusively to the minecraft thread! Scrolling down the main page looking at the last activity timestamps gives me a real Rip Van Winkle moment, it's so foreign to me still I just can't help but sigh every time. And then there's Guitarguy still chugging away with his status updates lol. There once was a time where I had to put thought into what time I wanted to publish a blog entry in order to not be quickly pushed onto the second page of blogs. Nowadays, that coveted page contains nearly an entire year's worth of blogging...
I don't know if I've ever said it proper, but thank you. To all of you I've spoken to on here, pleasantly or not, for what you've given me. A lot of who I am as a person was developed here. From the clan forums to the debate room and the forming of the clan chat moderating team to the minecraft server members, you've all given me fond memories and friends that I won't soon forget.
Obligatory latest knife picture
I've got three more on the way but with increasingly more difficult styles so we'll see how it goes.
It's been a while, hasn't it? Just thought I'd drop by and see what this place is doing. It's unbelievable to me that I came upon this place nearly ten years ago. And remembering what it was like then and seeing me and one other member online now. It's nothing new but still so weird to see. So how's life?
Obligatory rifle pictures:
Edit: I might've had a bit to drink a while ago and might ramble a bit but...
In the first image I've now got a x7 magnifier in front of my red dot for target shooting and a bipod attached to the bayonet lug. You ever shot steel targets? Guaranteed you feel like Annie Oakley because the feedback from the steel plates making that pinging sound is addicting. And in the second picture I've got a bayonet for funsies courtesy of a coworker. I'd never seriously put it on for anything but it just looks so right lol. My goal in life is to someday own property that I can shoot on. I love feeling the concussive force each round puts out, I can feel it in the ground through my shoes. And because thanks to Russia I can shoot my rifle as cheap as any .22 can. :D
I had been given a knife that I really liked the feel of so I decided to make a similar one that I wouldn't care about using and abusing. Below is the puma white hunter I was given and the inspired knife below it.
It's a little beat up already because I was whittling some sticks and splitting some 2x4 chunks for a fire. I tried a few new techniques making this one too. Particularly in using two different edge angles to facilitate slicing and chopping, respectively. As for looks, I left the dark heat treat scale on the knife to help with rust resistance (carbon steel!) and because I think it looks cool. :P
I think my next foray into knifemaking might be using an old file I softened during this knife's heat treat. Just need to think of a design...suggestions welcome?
I visited my grandparents's house today and my grandpa gave me some knives, as well as some old files and a book about Third Reich edged weapons.
What I'm pretty sure is a skinning knife that has a carved antler handle.
A modified WWII bayonet converted into a knife.
(I'm not endorsed by Microsoft, it's just the only spot in my room where my shadow won't block the picture and it won't have a glare like the floor)
Rascal, about six years old, is my sister's cat. To put it bluntly, he is an goosedown. Today the puppy got to meet him and he just hisses and howls. I'm unsure if he'd go as far as biting. Rascal even hissed at me when I reached my hand out to him. Needless to say, Rascal is going to be thinking about what he's done in my sister's room for a while.
I've slowly been working on making two knives to give to retiring scout leaders and I've just about finished.
The sheaths have an eagle (both leaders are fathers to eagle scouts) stamped into them and the other side of the handle has a council pin set into it. Whenever the buttons come in the mail I'll make the straps to keep the knife in the sheath and I'll be able to finally hand them over to their respective owners. I stupidly left the knives in their sheaths before the sheaths were bone-dry and found them slightly rusted today. :( For round two and to possibly sell a few, I'm going to go with a 6" tanto neck knife and use two separate pieces of leather for the sheath because the fold-over design wasn't really working well for me.
Once you figure out how you're going to manage each step (ie: hardening/tempering) it's pretty simple. Most of my materials came from amazon and probably amounted to a bit over $30 per knife not counting the walnut wood since I had that on hand. But throughout my misadventures, I have learned to hate my local home improvement stores as their websites have listed several materials I needed as in stock but when asked in-store (separate trips!), never were.
Went out with some friends to see Skyfall, the newest 007 movie. It was pretty good but had some strange logic fails. There were dozens of things Bond could've done to won an underwater struggle, like kicking his opponent down deeper into the freezing lake, broken the guy's neck, or at least knocked some air out of him but no, he went with a stranglehold. 007, super spy, choked a man out underwater.
Right when we get home my brother goes into an argument (already a bad sign) with my mom about religion. Basically, he bashed her because she believes in God. Then I cut in. Personally, I believe all my arguments were true and I hit him with everything I had. All he had were twisted words, fallacies, and picking on a mispronunciation/misused word. (Accidentally said 'queef' instead of...'quarrel'?) Every time I defeated an argument of his, he'd fall back to some ignorant statement, then when I'd say he was being ignorant, he'd say "Oh, so I'm ignorant because I don't believe in God?" He used that sentence over twenty times. Although, I did enjoy calling him out with my mom smiling in the other room, which he couldn't see. I'd like to say my brother's a good debater but he didn't have one argument in the whole half hour that was true. You (Sal's) should have seen me smiling when my brother started using our priest's health issues to bash a religion and saying he's still not ignorant.
Just because you are told to come to church doesn't mean our mom's forcing her religion on you. It means you're a minor and you're going to sit in a building that's not home and shut the hell up. Do you have anymore "arguments" you'd like to bring up because I'd really like to hear them.
Now I get to do homework then sit down to some Call of Duty 4 Live. Hell if my brother tries to play my 360. I've got a feeling my mom'll back me up for once on this 'intervention'.
It'd be nice if whoever happens to read this helps spread the support around the forum to fix the clan chat once and for all:
Credits go to Un0 for making the signature.
Personally, I'm going to stick with viewing sals in its full form on my phone. Mobile leaves out info I'd like to see anywho.
I'm also not seeing all the formatting options and smileys? Edit: Ah, none of this shows on my phone. That sucks.
Does anyone remember using N64 controllers? Well, I opened one up and found a space inside under the control stick that holds talcum powder. That's right, that white that always was underneath the stick wasn't wear and tear plastic powder, but actual talcum powder. It's okay, it blew my mind too.
My dad passed on to me the number of a nearby fire department's training (and hiring) officer who I was to call to ask about possibly being able to sit in on training. I spent an hour figuring out what info I should give and what I should say for a phone call that must not have lasted even thirty seconds. >.<
Well, I've attached the combat calculator, fit the new button into all the skins including the custom skin designer (which ended up creating a problem that took an hour to solve :glasses: ). Now the .zip file includes the basic info text file with a disclaimer, contents list, and credits (Speaking of credits, I forgot to add Cougar into the program's credits, but you're in the text file's, sorry ^_^ ).
Here's the link:
I'll gladly take into consideration serious suggestions for the SynKit.
If all else fails, try downloading the visual basic program itself:
I think it installs an important thing needed to run the programs.

Mr Game and Watch kindly posted a thread, so keep it active! Hopefully enough support will convince Jagex this should be fixed and realize how many bug reports there are regarding this issue. Feel free to post more suggestions on how to fix this!
Yes, I'm making an entry on this.
I'm trying to get Jagex to fix such a simple 'glitch' in clan chat that they've had in there, presumably, since they've introduced clan chats. This glitch allows other chat users to be mistakenly kicked (accidentally) if certain circumstances are met when kicking. Basically, when a CCmod right-clicks on a target user, the target leaves, the CCmod clicks 'Kick', and then the user that was below the CCmod's target will be kicked instead. This is such a poor way of designing the Kicking feature of clan chats. The next paragraph explains what I think's happening and what should be done to fix it.
Each line of text (each player's name) has an index number denoting the line they sit on. When you right click on someone, it takes the index of the line you clicked on, not the player's name. This is why when someone leaves (such as a jump-spammer), an innocent gets kicked. The innocent 'becomes' the spammer to the kicking code because they take on the spammer's index (they move up, uc?). Instead of just kicking on a stored index number (stored at the time of right-clicking), add a safety-net that also stores the user's name that you initially right-clicked and makes sure that's still the person you're trying to kick. Simply stated, use the name and not *solely* the index
There are easy, simple alternatives to fix this besides what I had mentioned - make a timer that prevents users from leaving or logging if they had spoken recently in the chat, much like the combat timer (you could even use the same timer). This would allow some time for the CCmod to kick if need be before the offending user left and prevent any accidental kicks.
What I'm asking for is for a member to make a thread (if it isn't there) trying to get this fixed once and for all. I'm not a member, so unfortunately, I can't make it myself. You have no idea what a dream this would be for CCmods of all fansites across the board. Remember, this is January, Jagex's announced 'existing content improvement' month, so this will be even more appealing than any other time.
