Well, after Delko's mafia game dies or finishes, I'll be hosting my own mafia game, and then after that, Adam?, Definition, and possibly CQ (as I've heard otherwise, too) will be hosting theirs, and then Dwarrior will host another... Lots of mafia coming up. *Note: I'll take in pre-entries, too, so post a comment here to come in. Also note you have to confirm your status of playing or not playing in the upcoming recruitment topic.
Also, I got my grades back, and I'm proud to say I made high honors, the "genius club" of my school.
For those still wanting to continue - what do you want to do?
We need hosts and an editor or two... I'd prefer not to edit, personally, but I s'pose I could for now.
TO THOSE GETTING HERE - Timezone + skype?
Ent (GMT -5, i-am.god)
Jordo (GMT +12, jordan-pasco)
Twist - aka WarHeart (GMT -5, flightoficarus9)
As (GMT +10, andrew_niles_pilkington)
Kemosabe (GMT +11/12, iKemosabe)
1) Stick to the Salcast ideals - some RS, some forum, and a little extra.
2) Keep a solid routine for recording - Skype, and everyone records their own end on Audacity <-- required.
3) Make sure that if you commit to a time, you actually show up... I dislike no-shows.
4) Leaking is still a biiiiig no-no.
5) Know what you're gonna talk about.
6) If you're not sure, run it by me. This is no longer an official project, it's my thing now. I don't want this to be a failcast :(
7) Communication is key.
Current Plan - Operation ESR (Ent's Salcat Revival)
1) Find stuff to talk about.
2) Find a good time for all who are still interested.
3) Talk + Record.
End of story. All business to be carried out in this entry. G'day~
Sal's Realm Radio!
Alright, so the last pilot episode is tonight, in 2 hours! So far it seems really successful and that I'll be adding on more people.
So, here's a worked out requirements:
-Working mic and decent voice
-1500 Songs in a particular genre (minimum)
-Good broadcasting software (or ability to learn)
-Ability to commit to at least 1 timeslot per week
Extras (that help):
-Plays RS and knows about stuff
-Can come up with trivia
-Interesting to listen to (scripted or unscripted)
I will consider anyone! Just post here and when I get around to it, I'll do interviews for the positions. And figure out timeslots. Cus those are important :)
On my list of people who have expressed interest in DJ'ing:
-Twist of Fate
For the music:
Just for comparison, I have 11.3 GB (12,196,875,103 bytes) of music, in 1,248 songs. That's folder one. Folder 2 has 17.8 GB (19,156,590,911 bytes) of music, in 2,838 songs. So roughly four thousand songs in my library.
For requests, I've been nabbing the requested songs from the internet, many of which I haven't heard before. This isn't going to be ok when we actually get started, you have to have the songs on-hand and know what they have in them in order to play them and avoid playing something out-of-genre or banned.
Banned music includes: Songs with racial profanity, Justin Bieber, meme songs (eg rick roll), religious/holiday music, etc.
It helps very much if you actually *know* the genre/bands you are playing, and even moreso, the tracks you're playing, so you can give some cool facts and info when introducing the song or naming it afterwards.
For the mic:
Anything that doesn't involve a lot of background noise is good. As long as it's audible and of better quality than a built-in mic or a low-end mic, then it's fine.
For the broadcasting software:
I use Sam Broadcaster (the premium version). Personally, it's what I recommend. There are other broadcasting softwares out there as well, but again, I recommend Sam. This part isn't a requirement, since anyone can learn this pretty easily. The real requirement here is that you are smart enough to use google to help you figure out how to do it. Honestly, it's not that hard.
For the commitment:
Yes, this is a commitment. You need to be able to commit to at least 1 timeslot per week. Timeslots will be anywhere from 2 to 5 hours in length, and I can fit anyone anywhere. It will be flexible, but you need to commit so we can have a constant stream of music and programming going 24/7 eventually.
Playing RS and Coming up with Trivia:
This is being directed at Runescape players, so it is very helpful if you know about Runescape and can talk about something about the game, perhaps a new update, without repeating what everyone already knows. That's the ideal, but I realize I'm not going to get much of that. So, the bare minimum is that you at least know a little bit and can come up with some trivia every so often and give away prizes in game. We will take donations later on, but for now, the prizes you give away are coming from you. As for the trivia, trivia questions need to be answerable, but not as simple as looking the answer up on google.
That's about it. Interview process involves showing me you have the music, talking to me on skype, perhaps, and then doing a half-hour set for me and some listeners. As long as you don't screw that up too badly, you're in! Remember, though, this is a commitment.
Slei piqued my interest in watching this, I watched it, and it was as great as he said. I also just watched it a second time, after seeing She and Her Cat, and the third part made much more sense.
A nice movie-type-anime thingy. Tear-jerking, sad, and just plain beautiful. Worth the watch, most definitely. Though I may just be saying this because of how much I can relate to it...
This sad stuff gets me every time. I love it, yet it's painful. And unfortunately, it's causing a spiraling emotional wreckage. Due in a weak or so, according to my calculations :s
I also watched She and her Cat. This is another masterpiece of 5 minutes by Makoto Shinkai.
I also finished Furi-kuri. T'was pretty cool, had a great tempo to it.
Note to self: Makoto Shinkai
I'm starting a mafia game again, because Fence requested it and I kinda wondered if it'd be back anytime soon. I was thinking about going to the Gen. Discussion, but decided to stick to the 'Scape Lounge for this.
Anyways, 10 players, Halloween theme, deadlines every 10 days, speed game, nightless (but has night actions). Only sign up if you can be active.
This game is hosted by Dwarrior and Myself.
6) Click This
7) Scary Food Item
9) Camhen (!!!)
Closed setup, nothing too insane, but at the same time, not basic.
So yeah, post if you'd like to sign up.
Has dropped to almost nothing. I hate people now.
On the bright side, my special someone is more catlike than human, imo, and she's still awesome + etc
Also, lol at some of the comments in my previous entries
This is a test for me to see if more people would come and comment if I have a title about something random, or a title involving 18+ references.
If you are too embarrased to comment, I still have ways of knowing if you viewed this entry
To all you runescape players that are quitting, I'll take your stuff
EDIT: Grrr, Camhen has beaten men D:
It appears I've gotten it started again. Cameron, if you're out there, come play tomorrow. I'ma callin you out.
So yeah, beat everyone today pretty bad. Sryen came the closest
Ah yes, it's the beginning of March! That means that April Fools Day (my personal favorite holiday) is just one month away!
This is where the planning starts. I will be bringing back a load of old pranks, and inventing about five times as many new ones! Some of the returning ones involve the sharpie moustache (a personal favorite), the kitchen sink spray-nozzle tape-down, and the old shocking locker door! Explanations available upon request.
Some new pranks include the elusive universal remote! With it, I can control any television or computer projector from an amazing 50 yards away (thanks to some "modifications"). As always, I will be helping a few of buddies at colleges do their annual prank, so keep your eyes open, these could be big!
*Note: my pranks are harmless and don't involve the police, like some recent news stories I've seen :glasses:
*Note2: BTS means "Behind the Scenes".
So I got that PM from Sal today that apparently has been going around. You know, the one that speaks of a hacking group after Runescape account passwords, change your password, etc, etc, whatever. Anyway, somehow I got to thinking, what is Runescape like many months after I've stopped playing?
After all the changes (like the removal of the wilderness, or addition of the Grand Exchange), I didn't really care. While most others cursed it, I welcomed it thinking, "well, this may make the game better." After coming back for even half an hour, I realized how wrong I was. The changes are terrible. Runescape is now just the game of clicking.
Though there are some things I still don't get. Why is Runescape so popular if it's just clicking? I mean, no skill involved, really.
How do I get 99 woodcutting? Click on trees for a while. How do I get 99 attack? Click on other people for a while. It's so simple. What I find interesting is how it's so popular, despite just being a fancy way to click. I guess some questions will never be answered to a satisfactory point.
Next are a few comparisons I find interesting that I came up with while pondering these things.
First is the distinct relation of Runescape GP to the US Dollar. Back when Runescape was good (in my opinion), one million GP was a ton of money. If you had 1m, you could by just about anything you wanted, with the exception of a few items. Way back when, I could buy my drink from the vending machine for a dollar, even fifty cents if I was lucky enough to find a generous machine. Now in Runescape, I see people saying things like "I just died and lost over 1m in stuff," and people respond to that with things like, "No biggy, you can get that stuff back quick." Also, prices on everything have skyrocketed, 1m is no longer a lot. A set of Black (g) armor, as I remember it, was only like 250k back in the good days of RS. Now it's somewhere around 600k. A steel bar used to be exactly 500gp. Now it's upwards of 600gp. Similarly, I'd be lucky to find a vending machine anywhere in the area that sells drinks for $1.50.
The second is another interesting one, which is probably off the mark, but still makes sense. The Runescape market in relation to that of a communist, socialist, or fascist nation. Of course, with History being my worst class, I'm probably very inaccurate with some of the facts, but bear with it please. <_< Anyways, the market of Runescape back when it was good was what made the game - trade was one hundred percent free. I could buy someone's chisel for a couple thousand GP if I wanted to. Now, the trading game of Runescape is completely impersonal and unfree. Before, there may have been a scammer or two here, a real-world trader there, etc. They were all part of the experience, though. What would the Medieval period have been like if there weren't such swindlers, muggers, and ne'er-do-wells? It wouldn't have been known as the Dark Ages, it would have been a better place to live (barring disease D:). While Runescape has eliminated these problems, they've created more - with a situation where the cure is worse than the disease. Now there is so much less freedom in trading - I have to follow the marketplace if I wish to trade, I can't make my own prices. For one or two items, there's no problem. For a bulk of things, (say 100k cabbages), I can't sell 100 per cabbage, I have to sell for what the market price is or not trade at all. Then there's the Grand Exchange. This eliminated the bartering game which made Runescape so much fun to play. It acts like a stock market, but is set up so poorly that I can't be bothered to try and play it. Long story short, freedoms removed and problems added to reduce a lesser problem. Almost as if Runescape went from the Capitilistic free marketplace of awesomeness to the boring, restricted, government-regulated marketplace of a Socialist economy. We need a rebellion. Down with the Grand Exchange, up with the old, self-established, self-regulated market of before.
Last is the wilderness to big business or land clearing. The wilderness used to be my favorite combat training spot way back when I was still worrying about the first quests and how to finish them. With the addition of those odd ghost thingies that pop up at random and attack, I could no longer train there. It was as if the land had been bought out and large "No Trespassing" signs had been put up. Next, almost half of the freeplay wilderness (including some of my more favored spots) have been cleared to make way for new mini-games, which frankly I dislike - exaclty as if the woods I used to hang out in had been cleared, and buildings built atop the land where the forest once stood tall.
Runescape no more. Runescape was dead before the trade cap. Runescape was dead before 2008. And here it is more than a year later, and it seems as popular as ever. Jagex may have tried to change it for the good of the game and its players, but instead destroyed the player population they had worked so hard to build up - and instead replaced it with most of the lazy couch-potatoes who just sit and click. And to those of you who aren't the couch-potato type that are still playing because you did before all the bad changes, I commend you.
Also, I'm very dizzy right now.
Well, I just got one of those malicious links sent to me by a new member.
I feel so special, (and by the way I sent it to Common Sense so he can maul that noob) I'm finally in the club of members who recieves innapropriate content <_<
I'm tired of always being referred to as "he" or "she" (even though he is the gramatically correct way of describing someone with an unknown gender).
Get this straight. I'm a TREE (the pronoun for that is 'it').
Also, join my mafia game, the signup is currently in a previous entry in my blog. It is linked to in my siggy :glasses:
For some reason, I find it strange that the US calls themselves America and Americans. US is not America, even if it's in America. There's also Canada, Central America (you know, Mexico, Guatamala, etc.), and South America, etc.
Overall, America=/=US, but US=America.
This mindless babbling is brought to you by Google.
Intro: I'm a freeplay player with a goal to get 99 crafting, and while I'm at it, 99 magic. I also will take breaks with other skills, since there's no point in being bored while getting these levels :o
I'm raking in the money now. Merchanting through GX. I've now got a merchanting item that gives me about 75k per million spent, which would be a lot more worth it a little later on. Taking a huge break from leveling anything, though.
The reason for my inactivity in life.
Whoa, it looks like it's 5:00 AM. Time for bed. Oh wait, I still want to play Spore.
That's the problem with this game, it's soooooooooo addicting. Definitely worth my 50$, and honestly, I'd have bought it if it were 200$. Worth it.
Back to Spore
So yeah, I'm probably gonna be completely outa Sal's Realm sometime in the near future. Lack of interest, mostly.
For the meantime, I'm pretty much only here for the blogs and Salcast.
Scape Lounge, my previous favorite forum, has fallen ill to new fads.
Graphics forum is dieing, and I really don't have much time for graphics anyway :P
Aaand haven't played RS in a couple of months, so can't have fun shooting down suggestions without sounding silly...
If you want me to bother you outside of Sal's, leave you MSN here or something ;)
I'm going to test this method of attracting people to my blog, since there has yet to be a comment
Actually, I figured it out. No one was commenting because it was set to private since I opened it. Im an idiot :P
Anyway, I just saw this bird outside my house, and it was like albino, completely white. Interesting....
There is a Waldo, portrayed by the idea emoticon, hidden in my blog. Find it and get a prize :)
In other news:
That button that didn't work earlier works again!
Join my mafia game! "Representing players" are Steve, Yelo, and Un_t0uch :D
I need some tea, I'm going crazy
