April Fool!'s True Purpose

I've been wanting to say this for awhile, the true purpose of April Fool!'s group. The people in this group will never be promoted past Forum Member. This was a method to appease the masses. And yes, I know I'm in this group too.

This Is Just Too Funny

So, 3 of the online communities I frequent are all doing pretty bad right now.   Ragnarok Server's admin has a terrible sense of humor and failed his april fools joke The networking forum I frequent is having a trololol battle. Sals is going CRAZY.   And I'm just sitting here reading. Know when to get involved, know when to grab the popcorn.

I'll Say It Anyways

even though probably no one will read it, and it will probably have no impact on anyone. The following is my opinion of the DM group and what we should do with it. Sorry, no tl;dr   The DM group (as it stands right now) is a worthless group that shouldn't exist. When it was created, it was to help designate new members and other members apart from helpful members. They moderated the RuneScape forum section because that was their job. They were pretty much the player moderators of RuneScape on this forum. No real power but help monitor and care for the RuneScape section - which worked really well and personally sounds like a great idea.   But something happened from the time the group was created to todays date.     What exactly happened is what happened to the Tech Support group years ago, except over a period over the entire life-span of the forums.   Tech Support? What?   Yes. Tech Support. Remember that little group that was here for a short time then suddenly disappeared? What happened to that group is exactly what happened to the DM group.   I'll give a short history of the Tech Support group: Group started off a simple idea which was then sent to an administrator.
The groups main purpose was to do data entry and website management while also helping various members solve technical issues with their computer.
Helping peoples computer problems became the main focus of the group and no one even attempted data entry.
The staff noticed this and said to themselves "Hey, this group isn't doing the task we originally had planned for it" (I'd like to point out the Database Dominators are pretty much the job Tech Support was SUPPOSED to do)
Staff removes group - which was a wise and correct choice.
After the group was removed, some people were angry but hardly anyone at all. It was a great choice in my opinion. People in the group were just happy to be different with the pip and power control (small reason of why I went in-active at that time, but mainly of real-life issues I've never posted on this forum and probably never will, but I digress)   What I'm saying, basically, is that the group no longer serves it's original purpose.   As of late, the DM group was promoting friends as sort of a popularity contest was being held at the time. There are quite a few people on the DM team right now that have no real reason to be there other than that someone invited them to the group and they said yes. After this happened under-the-radar of most normal forumers, the staff took a notice to this and said "Hey, this group isn't doing what they're meant to be doing, we should remove them".   I believe we should KEEP the group but start over completely on the definition of what it is and how it is run. Here's a few of my ideas: Rename it. "Janitor" is just an idea, I'm sure you guys at the staff can think of something better.
It is NOT a stepping stone to mod-ship, and it should never been viewed as such a path. This will only glorify the position for future popularity contests.
People promoted into this group should be well established forum members with a reputation.
They should actually have to PLAY RuneScape frequently. Inability to do so should require a voluntary "step-down" from their position.
Skill or items one person has in the game should not influence their ability to gain this role. Someone can such bad at something and still be helpful.
Maybe create other groups for other parts of the forum. Lots of people post in the "Not runescape" forum too. Different "janitors" for different boards doesn't seem like a horrible idea*
If we can't decide on what to do with the group then just remove it all together and be done with it.   In terms of promoting another forumer to moderator without the "stepping stone": If the DM group was secretly designed to be a stepping stone process, this project has failed. Actually, it hasn't failed, it's just run its course and now that the moderating team has successfully created a method of selecting moderators, DM group being a stepping stone should no longer be an issue.   My thoughts on that whole "drama" thread that started all of this: There seems to be a lot of people "in power" who don't deserve it due to an elitist way of thinking. I'm not saying it's bad to be thinking like an elitist, but when it goes to your head and you can't comprehend other peoples opinions without an intelligent rebuttal, that should be an instant sign of a lack-of-ability-to-moderate. I'm actually quite sad that the staff didn't notice this personality change within a few of it's own members.   About the "power hungry" members: Someone tell me how you can get so drunk off volunteer moderation? It's not like you just got elected to a role that benefits you financially. I have a lot more to say on this but I feel it would just turn into a giant rant that not even I would want to read.   About the decrease in activity: Remember when everyone on the forums played RuneScape - and if you played something else people just lol'd and said "why?"? Probably not. Back when RuneScape was still popular these forums were buzzing with activity. If you've noticed, RuneScape isn't so popular anymore and a lot of the in-game mechanics make it so that going to a forum to post about RuneScape redundant. How everyone failed to see this is beyond me. Lack of popularity + current in-game features = low population for fan-based websites. In my opinion, we're still doing pretty good in terms of activity.   Mod applications: This is a horrible idea. If you really want to know why, ask me and I might type it out for you.   And in closing: The internet changes a lot faster and more frequently than real life. The fact that Sals has been around for so long proves something, doesn't it? It almost feels as if most of the older members want to keep people out. How is an internet community going to live if they reject new members? Eventually older members will stop coming back so they will need to be "replaced" (in numbers, not personality) by newer members. I've been around these forums from before the move, but I still respect everyone equally. I'm probably one of the oldest members still posting now that I think of it. I've seen many personalities come and leave. Sals isn't FaceBook. Sals is a RuneScape forum.   I may have forgotten something but I can always edit and/or post. I have a feeling after the past week a lot of people are going to be editing their "people I think are cool" blog blocks.   * - While we have members to monitor the RuneScape boards, we should also have members to monitor the Debate Room, Other Games, and other sections of the forum. We shouldn't limit these roles to simply RuneScape, Sals has more than just that right now.

Finished Reading That Topic.

Would anyone even seriously read what I had to say? Because I think I may have some good insight on a possible future and I don't want to waste my time typing it all out for nothing.

Someone Make This Addon Please

<rant> Typing "accedently" (because I'm terrible at spelling) gives these results for "spell checker" for the right-click option:   Accentually Acceptedly Transcendently Adjacently   I'm trying to spell accidentally.   accidentally <-> accedently     Worst spell checker in history.   Someone needs to code a right-click --> google spell check, because google got it right away.   </rant>

Lol Friendship

So I was playing Halo Wars on my xbox the other day while my friend was over hanging out. My friend works for GameStop and has massive discounts for used games, so he bought me Halo Wars some weeks ago for cheap (I paid him back in full).   He was telling me how he went out of his way like he did for me for another friend to buy them a used game. That friend he bought a game for rarely plays the game, and maybe played it twice.   Then he goes on to tell me that he doesn't like doing that if people aren't actually going to play the game. RIGHT when he tells me that, I get the Halo Wars achievement "You have 24hrs of playtime accumulated" (not the actual achievement name, but it's how you get it, have 24hrs of play time).   I looked at him and said "Well, I guess you don't have to worry about that with me"   tl;dr Fun times with gamer friends.

Hey Christians

I mean die-hard bible humping Christians who watch Fox News and push their views on everyone they see.   Japan's biggest religion has nothing to do with Jesus.   http://runescape.salmoneus.net/forums/inde...showentry=59938   I want to troll this person Dani quoted sooooooooo hard. Just looking at their website makes me rage. They quote fox news and talk about the end of the world as if it's going to be here tomorrow.
