Pyramid Plunder

Last night, I gave in to the knowledge that I had to get 10k thieving xp before I could do 'Desert Treasure' and so had hours of fun raiding the H.A.M. storerooms. Well, hour, and not that much fun. Next I moved on to mugging Martin the Gardener for seeds, which felt more like work than enjoyment. Even when Guildwars joined me for a bit, which was momentarily diverting, but still didn't make me jump with joy to consider the next few thousand xp I needed to get. Then Guildwars suggested I try 'Pyramid Plunder.'

I have been vaguely thinking on 'Pyramid Plunder' eversince the time when Kuemper was getting her level 99 thieving there. This dinnertime, I sat and read the information on it in the guide, then set off for the desert. I had, of course, totally misunderstood where said pyramid was, so ended up climbing all over the Agility Pyramid dying of thirst instead. In private IM, Teacuptime was double-checking the guide and gently informing me that I should ideally get off the Agility Pyramid and into the town, out of the sun. I thanked him and promptly got knocked off the ledge by a moving bit of wall, which solved the question of how I got down again.

By the time I finally dragged my battered and dehydrated self to the golden gates of Sophanem, I'd already eaten about 5 monkfish. I sat in the shade for a bit inside, wondering why I hadn't yet done 'Contact' so I could use the bank, before following the mini-game sign to 'Pyramid Plunder'. Woot!

It took four doors before a Mummy reached out and smacked me one in the gob. I followed it back inside and had a quiet word about robbing it blind. It happily let me, but only for five minutes. I've since successfully plundered the first room (level 21) for a lot of lovely bits of statues, with my lockpick and snake charm recorder always on the go. More strategy and fewer urns, methinks, seeing as I had only just walked into the second room (level 31) when my time ran out. I'm 52 thieving at the moment.

I think I know what I'll be doing tonight. Only 2k thieving to go!

If you want to try to get down, quickly and safely then try to go down backwards, you will fail every single obstacle and only take 2 damage each time.

This is why people read your blog. :rofl:The guide on Sal's is great: here. You can always bank in Nardah.A short run through of PP:1a. Stock up on food, anti poison pots, lockpick and snake charm (last 2 optional depending on thieving level)1b. Get to and inside Sophenam somehow.2. Check the doors of the pyramid right by the gates.3. When you find a mummy, talk to him and start the game.4. Loot the golden chest in each room until you get to the highest room you can be in (for Merch it's room 4).5. In the highest room for your thieving, loot all urns if you can and loot the golden chest when you have a tiny amount of time left. 6. Either get kicked out my the mummy or leave on your own.7. Start again.

I've never played Sorceress's Garden, but I can confirm that fun is being had at Pyramid Plunder.

This is the Agility Pyramid that I ought to try next?

Thank you for your summary guide here. It was very useful as a checklist reference.I'm having to run back and forth to Nardah, whilst increasingly wondering how hard 'Contact' can possibly be. I even went to check at one point, but there's a line which I can't seem to read beyond. That bit about how it's easy to die at any level in this quest. :s But the bank in Sophanem would be very handy. Originally, I was doing Pyramid Plunder (at 87 combat and 52 thieving) with a bag full of monks and super antis, but this was largely because Mking was doing 'Itchlarin's Little Helper' next door, so I could meet him frequently with supplies. Once he'd successfully pwned the Devourer and gone home, I could streamline what I was taking. My bag now habitually holds two waterskins, two monkfish, two super antis (4), a ring of charos and 200gp. The latter two are in case of emergencies. I'm wearing full combat gear and a ring of life. With all of this, I'm finding that I can run from Nardah to Sophanem (why isn't there a direct flight? I daren't risk my carbon footprint on TWO rugs), go around the Pyramid 3-4 times, then have to run back, via Simon for a final time, to Nardah to restock. As I fill up with plundered items, I'll run out to Simon, then back to Sophanem for another round.I'm enjoying it so much that I've gone from 52 and 'oh no... I need to get 10k of thieving xp to do 'Desert Treasure' to just 6k away from level 55 and 'I wonder if I've got enough antis to get to 60...' I am seriously considering dissing 'Desert Treasure' in favour of 'Contact', just to get access to the bank. I really wish the pyramid teleport sceptre would turn up soon. Thanks again, Kuemper. :D

TBH, when the guide was being written and I was asking for tips on the forums, one person gave Contact! a mystique that it is super hard and super dangerous because *wiggles fingers* death awaits at every turn! *stops finger wiggling* I suggest you read up on the guides from Sal's and other fansites to get everything covered. I remember being scared over the scarab mages, who would douse my lantern, and the scarabs would poison me to death. When I did the maze, I ran away and hid in safe spots and was fine. You'll want a good thieving (I think I was 80 then) for the traps and agility levels for running around.

Merch, if there is anything that has to be said about Contact! it is this: It is an easy quest, save for the last battle. Honestly. The biggest danger is dropping down into the cave with light-dowsing mages, that is a true fact. The other fact it this: The maze-map is pretty accurate.

map.png

Sure, during your trek through the maze there are a few dangerous creatures wanting your very hide to play with, but they can be easily overcome; wear a decent piece of d-hide to ward off the magical attacts, and range the aggressor into his after life. Next range the locust-thingies to their maker and prepare for the final battle. One very important thing: TURN OFF AUTO-RETALIATE. This remark is in the guide, but it is funny how people tend to miss it. If you don't you will attack a mage and run into a trap.... and down to the dangerous bit you fall, not what you want. The final battle had a few people stumped at the time, and if you stay at the corpse you are to search, trouble will be upon you in a flash. Yet, again, the Blokes at Jagex have provided a nice spot where the dangers can be reduced. Admittedly not reduced to non-existent, but with some decent food it should not be too hard to finish it at your combat level. So, how to get to this nice, not-so-unsafe spot. Better give you a map, I think. One of the pictures that didn't make it to the guide was this one (I cut it to size and added the important bits :)):

merchmap.png

The red square is Kaleef (you had to search him on the first visit), when you enter for the final fight, you will see a cut-scene. When that is finished run as fast as your tiny feet can carry you to the green square. That way all the threats you are about to face come from one side only. Ah well, it really isn't that hard, though you probably don't want to believe that :/.

Kuemper and Simple, thank you both very much! Demsla and I did break for lunch halfway through this quest and ordinarily, I would have nipped on to read blogs before logging back on. If I had, I would have read these and it would have been very, very helpful. Unfortunately, I didn't. :(They should be updates to the official guides though, methinks.

Merch, next time, just before you go on a quest either blog it, or PM me. I have a fairly large number of notes on most quests, guess I have a habit of taking those while questing. That, some fond, and some not so fond memories add up to a pretty large data-base on most quests. I don't mind handing out pointers on what to do. Not my style of questing but I can understand people wanting to get the things out of the way as fast as possible for those awesome rewards some bring .

-.- Thank you. 'Desert Treasure' and 'Recipe for Disaster' (the final battles) are both gathering on the horizon. I have all the requirements for the former now, so should just do it. Otherwise, the quests which have been waving for attention are 'Enlightened Journey', 'Cold War' and 'Eagle's Peak'.

Right, guess you are in luck: the last 3 are easy. Easy as in, let's take some time and just do them. The one thing that is bound to cause a headache is Enlightened Journey. I had loads of trouble getting past the balloon thing. That said, do as the guide tells you (please, write it down on a scrap of paper) it won't be a bother at all.One thing you might want to do after Enlightened Journey is this: Unlock the route to CW and Varrock. I had to do it for the Varrock Diary and later found it to be the best way to make planks: Ring to CW (or Balloon), bank, get logs, balloon to Varrock, walk 5 steps to the saw mill, ring (or balloon) back to CW. In all honesty I used this to unlock the routes. The final RfD battle. There are two things you need to keep in the back of your mind: After killing each of the bosses you can get out and bank to stock up on supplies, and prayers won't work.... The last thing is annoying as you WILL lose your stuff should you die. And there is no way for a companion to pick it up, this is a personalized battle. That said, it is less daunting than most other battles, the only exception to it being the Jelly Dagganoth... For this you need the same procedure as used in Horror from the Deep.Desert Treasure... not really a hard quest if you follow the new guide on the site. It has close to all the tricks needed in it. The one thing not mentioned is this: On the final leg through the pyramid wield boots of lightness, gloves of silence, and spotted/spottier cape. You want to be as light as possible...The two not mentioned: Just have fun with those, watch the cut-scenes and read the conversations; they are a blast.

Thank you. :DIt was the VAD that had me noticing 'Enlightened Journey' and so pushing it to the top of quests that I'd like to do. I might give that a whirl today. As for the cut-scenes and dialogue, I'm very inclined to agree with you. Ordinarily, I'd click through them fast, as I know that the information is all in the Sal's guide. However, two things have conspired to make me regret this before you'd even pointed it out. The first, you were there and witnessed it. It was when a step had been missed out in 'Monkey Madness', which would have been confirmed by the conversation of Zooknook, but I couldn't tell you what he'd said. Then second was on Thursday night, when my nephew was at my house and had commandeered the computer. He called me in to ask advice on which quest to attempt next and I recommended 'Recipe for Disaster'. It's only been recently that I've been able to use the chest bank in Lumbridge Castle basement, but it's proved so useful. I stayed as he spoke to the cook and got the urge to read out loud both his and the cook's parts in the ensuing conversation. It was hilarious! I couldn't believe that I hadn't read this properly the first time round. So yes, I will take your advice on this one.
