Running Away
In real life, I've bruised my coccyx (sorry Zach, take it as a measure of how tired I was that I told you it was my cortex and then didn't even suss when you asked me what that was! LOL), so sitting down is a little painful. After having had a long soak to ease away the stresses of the day and also the coccyx, I came back to Runescape still feeling a bit deflated. I surveyed my unofficial 'to do' list (make more money, mine and smith some iron, make steel, buy planks, do some farming) and nothing seem to flash 'fun' in neon lights above it. In fact, the more I thought about it, it wasn't fun I wanted, it was escape.
It's times like this you turn to your heroes. What would Syd Barrett do in this situation? Depending on the year, take copious amounts of class A drugs (*checks bank, haven't got any*) or else hide in his mother's basement drawing pictures (*checks, my Mum hasn't got a basement*). What would Richey Manic do in this situation? He would disappear and/or jump off the Severn Bridge. I have some really messed up heroes. Runescape hasn't got a Severn Bridge, but it does have a level 56 Wilderness. That would do.
I packed my boots of lightness, one monkfish and one knife, then teleported to Ardy. The first time, I made it only as far as the lava cave, before someone ice barraged me. I stuck protect from mage on, but didn't fight back. Instead I informed them that they were killing me for a knife. Then amended that to, 'you're killing me for nothing, as I'll even keep the knife.' I was soon in Fally, taking out another Ardy teleport and off I went.
Round two, a ranger followed me nearly to the agility course, but didn't fire. I just walked calmly across the wastes, towards the fiery holes and the ice wolves, then onto the course itself. A handful of laps round, I netted level 62 agility and just figured I'd stay there to see how far I got with no food.
I saw the person before I saw the dot. The first thing that struck me was the bravery of someone walking into this level Wildy wearing a quest cape. I was just about to alert the chat channel to the fact that I was about to be killed, when I noticed that the dot was green. Friend! Yay! It didn't stop me getting poked. Several times, in fact. But at least Reaver had brought some cheesy jacket potatos with him, handing them over with the comment, 'for future pokes.' :D
He only stayed for a few laps (and pokes) before disappearing off into the basement of cooking levels, leaving me to go round and round and round alone. Those cheese-laden jacket spuds kept me going all the way until level 63. In the meantime, I'd encountered two more people. The first appeared right behind me as I made to cross the stepping stones. She attacked, then immediately jumped backwards, apologizing profusely as I crossed the stones. I realized it had been a mistake and called back, 'Np', but the player had logged.
The second was slightly more annoying, because of the proximity of my level. He stood for ages at the top of the ledge and I only noticed him as I was running across the pit. I was down to 9hp, with no spuds, and only had 5 laps before my level. As skeletons hit '0's on me, I called up,
'Come on, I only have 5 laps to go. :)'
The player's white dot moved towards the pipe, so I climbed the rocks. For several laps, we kept ourselves at polar opposite ends of the agility course. As he paused at the stones, so I paused at the pipe; as I paused at the log balance, so he paused at the rope swing. It was so obvious by now that we were both there for the agility, but the game went on.
I'd already decided that, once I'd got my level, I'd go and do something else, so when it happened, I waited for him at the top of the ridge. I greeted with a 'woot! Level 63', to which he laughed and then carried on into the pipe. We level-pegged for a couple of laps, then, at the rope swing, he got me with his poisoned dagger. I waited on the other side of the swing, saying,
'Y u kill? :)'
He laughed again, apologized and offered food, which I declined. After all, I wanted to go back now anyway. :)
