Gutted Ipod
Well peoplez.
I had this old 4th generation iPod Photo that kept bricking itself. It would just freeze, still have some clicking noises for the click wheel for about a minute then just quit alltogether, screen frozen, light stuck in the on-mode, no sound at all. It did that one too many times. So i opened it, and gutted the iPod for fun.
It was a 60GB too.
fun fun.
So heres the results
1) The screen was broken (failed to keep it in tact...)
2) The circuitry is tiny (duh, its an MP3 player from Apple...)
3) The battery is the second largest thing in there, the biggest of course being the harddrive
4) the harddrive is freakin tiny, even for an iPod of the 4th generation (one of the fat ones)
The thing is like 1/5 the size of my desktop computer's harddrive that is the same size. (coincidentally, Im going to attempt to hook it up as an "external" harddrive to that same computer. harddrive is expendable, haha.
5) the click wheel still clicks, so i kept it, along with the front and back faceplates for fun, mementos, haha.
UPDATE:
upon researching the subject, I actually found a cheap way to make use of the harddrive. 60GB is a pretty decent amount...
I searched google for the toshiba harddrives, found the product number and found the actual product online. It retails at around $200 new.
However, Instead of doing that, I simply had to find out the size of the harddrive, which is 1.8' and then I found an external enclosure. It cost around $20, but when I get it, i'm going to wipe down the 2-3GB of random used space on that old ipod harddrive, and use it as a 60GB external harddrive. Nice eh? $20 gets me the case with the USB cord and everything, and itll plug and work just like a flash drive. a flash drive with a transfer rate of around 250MB/s or more, lol. convenient, I was just thinking that I needed an external...
I should buy more refurbished iPods cheap and gut them for harddrive... haha
