First two were good, the thirdI found I liked better after watching the video with it.

 

The fourth one i thought the guy sounded like the one from the mmm mmm song, and it was (you learn something new everyday) :)

 

The fifth: Did the dandy warhols sample the original?

 

The sixth was ok, it had atmosphere and stuff but I just wanted to pat him on the back and tell him to cough it all up.

Saying that it wouldnt have worked if sang by someone with a 'normal' voice.

it's quite possible that the dandy warhols sampled the original version of Gimme Shelter, it's one of the biggest hits of The Rolling Stones after all

but i prefer the Patti Smith version

 

about the last one well yeah the guy knows how to put emotion in a song and his voice well ..., kinda sounds like he'll cough up a hairball any minute now :P

He does a fairly good impersonation of Tom Waits :P Must say I like Tom better though, guess fluency in French is a must to 'hear' what is sung.

Fabrizio De André (an awesome Italian singer) adapted Brassens's Le Gorille in Italian and achieved something awesome, too bad that the "f u, death penalty" message was kind of lost in translation (and also because the death penalty was effectively abolished in 1947, as opposed to France where it was still being practiced at the time).
