Money Money Money (updated)

My whole RS life at the moment is in pursuit of filthy lucre. I need 26m. Or 26 magic stones for one demon throne and one magic cape rack.

I'm not doing too badly, though I am going against my instincts. There's often an age old decision to be made in most skills and acquisitions: money versus xp. Take, for example, the things that my subjects collect in my realm of Miscellania and Ectceteria. That's where I get all of my 'free' herblore xp from. I have them on 100% herbs and 50% fish. The fish pay for the herbs. I just have to find the secondaries and I'm away. But not this week. This week, I'm cleaning those herbs and shoving them straight onto the GE. The money rolls in, but I have to ignore the lack of herblore xp.

However, I am getting xp in other ways. I'm falling back on those huge money-making skills: farming, runecrafting and slayer. Though I'm not ignoring the rest either. I've put my share of crafted jewellery and longbows into the GE just recently.

I'm also falling back on self-sufficiency. Need some yew logs to get my fletching stones? For months, I've been buying the yew logs off the GE, because time is money and all. Now I'm hanging around the Gnome Stronghold with an axe, adding to the chronic deforestation problem there. Time is money, people scream. But money is also tied up in the GE, flipping common items. I've currenty got 768gp in ready cash to play with.

The flipping isn't going brilliantly. For about three days, my chosen items were shifting well, but then went splat. It's taking two days to flip one item, while the other hasn't bought at all in that time. I think I need to change items.

None of this is helped by the GE, which seems to be on a general go slow at the moment. I'm guessing that this is post-Bonus XP Weekend blues, coupled with the younger players returning to school. Even the most basic items aren't selling, like that steel hatchet that I found on the floor of the GE. The sleeping cap, that I got from a level one clue, won't sell, even at minimum. My kingdom's herbs take a day or two to shift. It's all a bit depressing really.

However, for all these money making woes, I am gaining money. I started with less than 1m and I've now got 6m. I've also got 7.5m with Advisor Ghrimm, that I'd forgotten about, when I made my first calculations. So, if I bankrupt myself and my nation, then sell the Karils, I'll have roughly 20m. That's nearly there! I still have nearly 400k construction xp to gain before I'll want to start spending, so there's still time to make that extra 6m.

Wish me luck! And oooh! Banksale!

banksale.png

Getcha fresh onions here! Organically grown! No preservatives! Hand-picked for your onion pleasure! Clean Harralander! Imported from Miscellania! Getcha wooden spoon here! Salvaged from the GE floor! Boootiful mint cake! Gnome produced and tasty!

>.>

Edit: Too late. The earth tiara has gone. Sold on the GE.

Edit 2: My banksale went great! Teacuptime said that he'd be buying harralander on the GE anyway, so please could he buy mine? Yes! You can!

Then Kayla turned up, because she wanted my sleeping cap so she could a) look pwnage and b) put it in the treasure chest in her house. I was very happy to sell it to her. But there was more. Kayla said, "I find myself in need of some junk." "Oh?" I asked, wise to this lady of old, "What kind of junk?" "All that stuff in your banksale." There was much discussion. She swore black is blue that she really did need it. Even the wooden spoon.

She'd already promised me that it was because she really wanted it, not because she was just helping me out. It was only as we both accepted and I was wooting over the money, that it occurred to me to ask, "Why do you want all of this junk?" Kayla airily wandered away, "Oh, to decorate this floor..." Nooooo! I spam traded to buy it back. She just laughed at me.

:s

After that, Kayla and I went on the Daily Activities run, that Kuemper had linked for us. I'd somehow got it into my head that it was a 20 minute run, which netted you 1m gp. Re-reading it now, I can't see where I got that at all. I'll just have to admit to being an hallucinating nub here. Teacuptime was coming too, but we somehow managed to lose him before we'd left Edgeville Bank. :s With the guide up on half of my screen and Kayla trailing me on the other, we covered the entire of Gielinor, getting stuff. I then sold most of it in the GE. I'd like to tell you that I made lots of money. However, I didn't take note of how much I made before and how much I had afterwards, therefore I haven't got a clue. -.- My guess is that I made lots of money though!

I've currently got 9m + 7.5m (in my kingdom) + Karil's Set towards the 26m needed for construction. :D

hmm flipping isn't going bad for me

odd

I get about 8 items a day which is good for some 600k profit daily, usually even more since they are on the rise and often sell for max

:o Are you buying min + 2 and sellng mid - 2?

usually a bit more than +2/-2, I just slam the button a random amount of times which brings me around +/- 10

for that one cheaper item I stick to the rule min+1 and selling for min+11 or avarage -1, whichever is the lowest

oh btw another great moneymaker

2 even

1: buy unfinished broad bolts from slayer masters each day which makes you about 100k profit

2: get the hard varrock diary done (or better) and buy your 64 battlestaffs from zaff's shop each day also for about 80k-100k profit

both sell instantly on the ge at med price

Flip commonly used items that are going up in price, don't worry if they don't buy straight off, give it time, they will. Because they re rising buy from about middle, and sell just lower than max, or add 10% to the price you bought the item for.

When I say commonly used items, Raw materials, runes, arrows and cooked foods, you cant lose :D

I find that common items don't have a high enough profit margin for flipping, and flipping on rising items is slow :/

I prefer semi expensive items (+/- 2m) which are stable or dropping, way more people sell them for low and they are still bought for average because the general buyer doesn't check the ge graphics first

also stick to members only items for this, way less people playing the same thing there

I'll buy steel axe!!! Maybe you should try grenwall hunting, with your hunter level you should be able to get 1,5m gp (per hour) and 80k+ hunter xp.

Good luck Merch! :)

Expanding more on the daily items: Daily Activities guide. I stick with things I know will get money - feathers, water and earth runes, raw bird meat, etc. - and ignore the maths that death runes make me use. You make more money finishing battlestaves and hi alching them than selling them plain on the GE.

I found my notes about what I spent and my profit off the daily things. I keep the sand, seaweed and rune ess for myself. It does take more than 20 mins with the herb farming.

Spent: 925,879 gp - 5k feathers, 310 raw bird meat, 2600 water and earth runes (I skipped Baba Yaga), 64 battlestaves, 3k unfinished broad bolts, 80 p'apples, 120 flax (occasionally spinning into bsttrings)

Return: 1,472,290 gp - sold all but bstaves on GE; I screw fire orbs on them and hi alch.

Profit: 546,414 gp

Sorry I vanished, a work-related phone call dragged me away for the afternoon :-(

7.5m in kingdom? Crikey, that's a lot! I've never felt the need to leave more than 2m in there, which is enough for 17 days payment at the maximum of 75k a day before dropping below the important 750k threshold. If you top up your favour more than once ever 2 weeks, then you can safely cut down to 2m (or 1m even) in the coffers.

Having seen the guide, I now know what the run was all about, it had me mightily baffled at the time. Somehow my brain translated 1m 20min run into "one mile, twenty minute run", and then because that's not a running pace, more a slow meandering speed, I even more wrongly jumped to the conclusion that you'd made a typo and had actually meant to say 1m 20 sec run. At that point I was assuming it was a test of running endurance, to see if we could last 80 seconds without using up our run energy. At this point you were reading out the inventory required, which started out with Varrock platebody 3, which you don't have to carry now that Naff, rather than Zaff sells battlestaves. The only use of the platebody I could come up with was as ballast, it's incredibly heavy, so it woudl be good to make a running challenge harder... from then on I started trying to fit the other items in with this idea of a long distance run, with varying, but sharply decreasing dergrees of success, the items didn't really make any sense, even if I undid my typo guess, and went back to the idea of a 1 mile in 20 minutes run, which would be difficult because of our outlandish and heavy inventory. I'd tenatively assumed that the mass of teleports we had to carry were going to be shown to each other in trade before and after, to prove we'd not used shortcuts, and that herb seeds were somehow going to be used to time the run, but I was so bamboozled when the phone rang that I lost my grip on multitasking (which is tenuous at best) and timed out.

Grief - kk I'll catch you up.

Teacuptime - LOL Oh dear, I really should have explained it better. LOL I'm using 7.5 million in my kingdom because MFI and Tabt told me to. >.> Apparently you get more for your 75k per day, if you have 7.5m in there. I can't say I've noticed a huge difference from having 2.5m in there, since I switched to 7.5m.

Kayla - I'm in awe of your ability to sell poisoned addy arrows and mintcakes.

Fred - I'm working on it. I finished my aquanites, then did 5 mithril dragons. Now I have dags.
