Where Will My Degrees Take Me?

Twist of Fate

I'm stuck between two potential life paths.

Degree in United States history. If I pick this path, I could of course become a teacher. But is there anything else that I can do with a degree in US History, career wise?

Also, I'm thinking about Geology and Earth Sciences. I find the topic fascinating and it'd be kinda cool to move to California and study the Earth and work for a geological society thing.

Help me

It's a hell of a lot more work haha, but I really agree. Mining companies use geologists, there's marine biology, ecology, environmental science. Scientists make bank and love what they do

I have many many many friends who have gotten a history degree, and only 1 of them actually works as an historian (archeologist)

I will absolutely not deny that it's interesting knowledge, but it's not that useful career wise :/

I'll minor in it then lol

do note that the concept of majors and minors is completely and utterly alien and unknown to me :P

Geology and Earth Sciences, definitely. I too find US history fascinating but I would never consider a major in it, simply because it's too hard to make a career out of it.

I do suggest taking a history minor if you really want to keep studying it, though. It might give you an edge over another equally qualified geologist when applying for grad school or a full-out career.

I already know that I live in a town that was historical in the Revolutionary War, and Lincoln probably made a speech not too far away
