20000_Posts 523 Posted May 9, 2011 A BitTorrent tracker is a server that assists in the communication between peers using the BitTorrent protocol. It is also, in the absence of extensions to the original protocol, the only major critical point, as clients are required to communicate with the tracker to initiate downloads. Clients that have already begun downloading also communicate with the tracker periodically to negotiate with newer peers and provide statistics; however, after the initial reception of peer data, peer communication can continue without a tracker. 20000_Posts 523 Posted May 10, 2011 thepiratebay is a tracker. Holds the .torrent file and then tells people where to go to connect to other users. Quote Link to comment

Icy Defiance 0 Posted May 10, 2011 thepiratebay is a tracker. Holds the .torrent file and then tells people where to go to connect to other users. Actually thepiratebay never works when I put it in my tracker list...openbittorrent.com (if I remember right) seems to be the new popular one. The Pirate Bay is just good for finding the torrent files now. Also, what's wrong with trackers? Other than finding a good list of them, to add to torrents uploaded by idiots who only put 2 or 4 of them in the .torrent file, I've never found them to be annoying. Quote Link to comment
Naota 1 Posted May 10, 2011 Icy Defiance, that's because a large majority of ISP's actually BLOCK tpb's tracker. Quote Link to comment
