Well, if you say you're going away from your desk while at work, it isn't assumed that you're inside your desk in the first place. It implies that you are at your desk, within working range of it.

 

If you say you're going away from your keyboard while playing a game, it isn't assumed that you're inside your keyboard in the first place. It implies that you are at your keyboard, within working range of it.

 

Perhaps, it the saying was "out of keyboard", your question would work, however, that would open up the possibilities such as being out of stock of "keyboard", although you'd have to be misusing plurals in order to think such things.
