Free to play accounts don't show up in highscores anyway, so I don't think your account is lost. I think that when they ask you for your email they want it for later, not for the recovery itself.

Didn't that change a while ago?

As far as I'm aware F2P is not in the highscores. You can try it with anybody here who isn't a member.

I'm F2P and the only thing it shows in the highscores for my account is my name at the top of the page and then a bunch of dashes in every category.

when was the last time you played? they did delete inactive accounts that went i think it was 5 years without being played. This happened to one of my accounts, that i made when i started runescape, because my bank got too full, so i drop traded (and yes, now I know that's against the rules, I didn't know back then) to my spare account. I also drop traded some wealth to the account, incase my main ever got hacked. I last logged into it a year after it was created, and only remembered it half a year ago, and I tried logging in, and asked around, and found it since it went 5 years (?) without being played, it was deleted. It's a way of preserving names.
