So I've been working on my handwriting

OCet0v0.jpg

soz for the big potato, right-click image and open in new tab for easier viewing

Anyway, still needs a lot of work but at least it's legible :3 I decided to try and improve my handwriting over the weekend so I chose Helvetica Light and went to town. The notes on the left are from before, notes on the right are after.

Anyone else tried doing this? If so, any tips?

It's the first time I see someone base his handwriting upon a font and not the other way around.

I changed my own writing style a lot in early school years, and, in the end, ended up having a writing style that can at times be hardly distinguished from my mother's (except for small things, like the letters f, g and z)

Ya a lot more, hopefully that'll improve otherwise it's useless in exams and stuff.

why

Because even I couldn't read my handwriting at times, and partially my boredom :P

Tbh I didn't really know how else to go about improving it, and Helvetica's a nice font so why not.

And thanks for the mnemonics guys, I'll keep them in mind!!

Simplify! Simplify!

These "u" don't need the terminal on the right, a simple rounded line will suffice (and that's a 33% reduction in time for the letter "u" while keeping legibility) or these "a" are far too detailed to be useful in quick writing (a circle with a straight line on the right is faster and just as legible), etc. - develop your own style by practicing!

Protip: try to have the least amount of sharp angles possible - changing direction abruptly takes longer than drawing a smooth line.

Your a's are nice but from past experience they're a burden in exams if you plan to do running-writing with your new writing.

Being legible is the key, you may need to write a few more things in study notes/class notes/exams over the next few years but in the long run any major documents will be typed & only notes for short term purposes ( i went..., shift changes etc) will be needed by hand.

Style won't matter as long as the actual message can be understood, looks good.

Oh, also - having some sort of cursive element to your handwriting without making it unreadable might make it easier to write faster. At this point my handwriting is a weird mix of cursive and non-cursive and for most letters I've changed the way I've written them because I liked how another style looked :P
