Once I met someone who had so much scholarship money that they had more than they needed. They used it to buy an expensive computer.

Unless you really need a power laptop for whatever reason, you could just get a reasonable desktop and a cheap laptop, all for a lower price than this, depending on how powerful you want your desktop and whether you've got peripherals.

tbh, i wanted a powerful desktop, but I don't have the room right now for a desktop, and not sure I am going to within the next couple years. I might just get the camera for now and save the laptop for later

To be honest, you shouldn't buy a laptop for more than $1k.

I definitely agree with this. Unless you have an absolute need to run high performance programs on the road or something, it's far more cost-effective to simply get a sub $1k laptop. Heck, you could probably get a cheap laptop and a good desktop and then stream right from your desktop to your laptop in the future. There is probably too much latency still now, but it'll get faster and faster.
